Problem checking POP mail at fixed intervals

Things are getting better and better for me with my MPx220, but I'm running into a (slightly) annoying problem with checking email - wondering if it is just me, an MPx220 problem, or a Windows Mobile problem...

I have a POP account defined within the mail application. I enabled the setting to check my email for me every 15 minutes. (I also have an Outlook account defined - it does a wireless sync whenever the new message SMS arrives).

The POP account SOMETIMES checks on schedule, but sometimes I will notice that it has gone hours without picking up a single new message. If I manually "send/receive" it picks up my mail without a problem - so I'm confident it has nothing to do with a network or connectivity issue.

I thought it might be a bug that once it has a failed connection (which happens once in a while) it just stops trying - but I've seen enough times where it has struggled for an hour and then suddenly picks up my mail after all.

So, I'm stumped... Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone know of a good fix?

mine does the same thing, on pop or imap.

Don't know if this'll help any, but from what I've read, every time that you power on the phone, you have to first do a manual send/recieve before it'll resume its automatic schedule.

The issue I'm running into is that, after following an automatic schedule for some period of time, the phone STOPS following it - and doesn't pick up any mail for me unless I initiate a manual send/receive. (Every time I power on my phone, I do a manual send/receive anyway since I don't want to wait for the first 15 minute cycle - don't know what would happen if I simply waited..)

I wish I could get this far. I can't even get a pop3 account setup. I know how to set one up and have it working on my PPC but when I setup the account on the SP it stays at connecting for a long time and then usually locks up. Any ideas or tips.

I haven't had any of those problems with my pop3 account---even when I power down the phone then back up--It retrieves them automatically. You do have to make sure that your settings are correct though---the same setting can be found in outlook or outlook express---The only troubles I have are occassionally it wont connect cuz my signal is low--and it'll ask to do a passthrough---that's my only issue.

MS' ingenious OS tries to use secure login. on the first attempt. You have to let it sit there, mine did for a few hours the first time and then it figures out your pop server doesn't support SSL. If you can turn on your pop server's logging, you will be able to see exactly what it tries to do.

I had the same issue on the SMT5600. I believe there is a thread on it here at HoFo's. On the SMT5600, only after manually doing a POP3 mail check would it then auto check every 15 min. When ever I powered off and back on, I would have to do the same SHlT again. It has to be a software issue!

Same problem here, seems to check whenever it wants. Does seem better with shorter intervals; mine almost always works when set to 15 minutes, but nearly always dies out set to an hour.

Don't think it's just you!
