Can't get MPx220 working as a modem

I have Cingular service.

I installed the drivers, and I turn on the modem link and plug it in. I can query the modem just fine. I tried dialing *99# and also *99##2. I tried blank user/password, I also tried user/password wap@cingular.com/cingular1. Nothing works. Also, the phone seems to randomly crash after using the modem link. I look at my phone and it's just off, and I have to turn it back on (firmware .342).

Any ideas??
