4.0 problems??

Hey guys, I am hoping somone on here can send me in the right direction. Even since I loaded 4.0 onto my 7510, I have had a few issues that I never had with my bb before (this was before getting the 7520), and I am still having the same issues on my 7520. One thing is the number of times I have issues with dc. I never used to have the problem that the unit was "in data" a whole lot while I wasn't using it, but now I notice it at least once per day doing this. Also, during these times, as well as at other times, I cannot receive dc calls--the other person gets an error when they try to get me (User busy in data), even when I've got no arrows and not using data. Secondly, I have noticed that every time I turn the device off, it says "Next scheduled off/on time is..." even though I auto on/off is disabled. The problems started when I upgraded the 7510 to 4.0, and then had to do a backup to get my cryptmagic data back (the backup file was from the old software version, but did have the crypt data in it). Since then, I have purchased the 7520, and after syncing the first time, it has been behaving oddly too. It seems like any problem I have created in upgrading and then backing up the 7510 was transferred to the 7520. Is this likely, or even possible??? I performed a "wipe" on the 7510, and it looks like it reset to the stock 4.0 but I can't really tell for sure. For the most part, everything with the 7520 is working well except for these few glitches that I don't hear of others having at all. I am thinking that I should wipe the whole thing (even remove handheld software), and then start fresh to see if this helps in any way. Does anyone else have any advice for me? If I do go about erasing everything off of it, can someone give me a better idea as to how to do this (I have never removed the os before, just installed new). Thanks in advance.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7510/4.0.0 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/4.2.3.5h)

I don't remember if it was you or someone else that had the odd behavior when turning it off. I have not seen that with my 7510 and 4.0. I probably do not get as many DC calls as you, but also do not see this problem. The only time I had excessive data arrows was when I trialed Verichat, but I think that is how it is supposed to work. Sorry I could not help more.

Yeah, I had mentioned the odd powering-down behavior once before, but assumed it would go away when I got my 7520 up and running. I am really thinking I might need to remove everything from the bb and then reinstall from scratch. I've just never done it, and haven't had much luck in searching for how to do it. I know that when I do it, I don't want it to backup and reinstall after it gets removed, and every time I have tried to uninstall/reinstall it does the backup thing before removing everything.

You are way over my head at this point.

I would probably PM Mark if he is open to such things. He can probably help you. Or the software guy on Blackberry Forums or Blackberry Club whichever it is called. There is a software guy on there that is pretty knowledgeable.

Why dont you downgrade to the 3.XX version of the handheld OS and see if that solves the problem.

I had a problem with my BB that just kept telling me to re-sync all the time, even after I had just taken the BB off the cradle from a sync.

I upgraded to 4.0 and that problem went away but then I started getting a different error message.

I pay for the phone insurance on VZW so I called them and they just sent me a new 7750, which is great because I bought the BB on Ebay. It must have had a problem and that is why the seller Ebay'd it. (Real nice).

In any event, I downgraded the broken BB back to 3.7 so VZW couldnt say I broke it by upgrading.

When I got the NEW BB from VZW I upgraded to 4.0. Works like a champ.

You need to go into control panel and delete the Desktop Manager which is the 4.0 version and reinstall the 3,X version from your manufacturer. DELETE the RIM directory in the Programs/common files DIRECTORY on your computer. Then reinstall the OLD desktop manager.

Once it is installed - cradle your BB. It will ask you if you want to DOWNGRADE - say YES. Then it should be back to the way it was. If you problem is solved you will know that the 4.0 you installed is not truly compatible with your BB.

Hope this helps.
