Hey all I am hoping you all can help me out with this problem. My old 7280 just died and I just received my replacement from AT&T. Just before my old one died I did the upgrade to the new OS using Desktop Software 3.6 w/ service pack 3a (I believe). I then loaded up WebMessenger and VeriChat and everything was working beautifully. Now that I have my new unit I did the exact same steps but I cannot get the applications to work!:doh Some of the time the window pops up asking for permission to use certain ports etc and times not. Either way, I eventually get a Timed Out error
. I was having problems with sending email as well (I was getting the "No email services.." error but a new Service Book fixed that) Any suggestions as to what the problems may or may not be? Any help would be great, Id love to have my BBerry working before my trip this weekend. Best of wishes and thanks for any help!

What was the version of BlackBerryOS you were using earlier? Verichat and WebMessenger does not work on OS 3.7 unless you have BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) for MDS.
If your Verichat and WebMessenger was working earlier on the same 7280, then that probably means you were on a BES. If you do have BES/MDS, make sure you synchronize your BlackBerry with your BlackBerry desktop while your Microsoft Outlook is running in online mode connected to the Exchange server with BES. This will install the proper service books you need for doing Verichat/WebMessenger through BES/MDS. You may have to delete your service books via Options->Service Books.
Also, to be on the safe side, additionally resend your BWC service books via your BlackBerry Web Client website (Profiles -> "Send Service Book"). And on your Blackberry, do an Options->Host Routing Tables->"Register Now".
That should cover all the bases, as I am assuming you are using a BES.

I did have those applications working on my 7280 with 3.7.1 on AT&T Wireless since they now allow full TCP/IP access. I wasn't on a BES ever and the apps ran. Any suggestions?

Try getting the service books resent from your BWC web account, and try "Register Now" from Options->Host Routing Tables.
If that fails, try downgrading the BlackBerryOS to the older 3.7 that worked with Verichat and WebMessenger. This may be your best route, but not guaranteed to restore connectivity... Or you can try upgrading using Cingular's 3.7.1.115 (found in the link through my BlackBerryOS 4 upgrade FAQ) ... which works on Rogers/AT&T BlackBerries too, and seeing if that makes things working again. No guarantees, though...
Running TCP/IP applications without MDS on BlackBerries older than OS 3.8 is more-or-less "unsupported" -- it requires quite a lot of kludges in programming in the software. For one thing, there's no configurable APN in Options->TCP ... which can cause major problems. For more guaranteed operation, I suggest an OS4 upgrade or BES/MDS hosting service. It is very risky to do an 3.7 OS upgrade on a 3.7 successfully running WebMessenger. (Didn't know Verichat sometimes worked on OS 3.7).
Hope this helps... Sorry I couldn't help any further :-(

Just for kicks I unboxed the defective BBerry (it would freeze up alll the time) but atleast it would work with VeriChat etc... Well after putting back in my SIM card the programs no longer work on it either! I assume there must be a system down or my account was screwed up. Im located near Greensboro, NC on an AT&T Wireless BBerry but roaming on Cingular. Anyone else having these issues?
