7290 HTML Browser?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This has been mentioned a couple times inside various 7290 threads, but I thought I would create a new thread for the problem.

As some of you know the 7290 comes out of the box without a HTML browser when you don't have a BES connection(BWC only). There is the Cingular WAP browser, but lets be honest....it doesn't do HTML sites at all.

Some people have mentioned that they have had luck getting Cingular to add the browser to their account. I tried calling this afternoon right after I got the phone to get the browser provisioned, however the two CSRs I spoke with thought I was smoking something. I also talked with a guy in Blackberry specific support who didn't know what I was talking about.

So, for those that got the browser added successfully without having to get BES hosting, what did you do/say?

Thanks!
Peter

I'm not even sure what all these words mean but try this:

Install Desktop Manager V3.6, install all 3 service packs

Do a "Synchronize Now"

Go into Application loader, choose to uninstall the UK Language thing, let it do a complete backup and reinstall of your phone

Still not there

find vendor.xml on your C: drive, and rename it to vendor.xml.bak and do another "synchronize now"

weird stuff

kilo,
Thanks for the detailed response. I did the steps you mentioned below, however after the last "Syncronizing Now" there was no browser installed!

I went into: Tools->Host Routing Table->Selected the bold number and selected "Register Now". This brought back the cingular browser, however, I still don't have the HTML one.

Thanks for the help, but it looks like we are stuck for now.

Hmmm,
Well I may have found the solution. It looks like the Cingular browser that came with my 7290 does infact support HTML. You just need to enable it:
1) Open up the Cingular Browser
2) Click the scroll wheel, and scroll down and select Options
3) Click Browser Configuration
4) Under content mode I selected HTML only.
5) I enabled IE emulation mode(I think this only changes the browser version sent with the HTTP headers)
6) You can also enable Flash plugin support in the previous menu.

I had a T-Mobile 7100t for all of a day, and the browser installed on it was considerably faster. This however, will work until they finally rollout the real Blackberry browser.

Hope this helps someone.

Peter
