MP3s Ringtones

Programs
- Acoustica Mixcraft
- BitPim
- Brewsky 8900

1. Open the MP3 file in Acoustica Mixcraft and trim the MP3 to about 30 seconds (the max length before voicemail kicks in).
2. Take the shortened MP3 file and save it as an MP3 (under File, Mix Down To, MP3 File…, at the “Save As” box name the file, then when the “Encode To” screen comes up, change the “Preset Quality” to “Voice Quality” under “Encoder Options” so that the Bit rate Min is 64kbps and Mode is Mono).
3. After you create your ringtone, follow "talk2kmf"'s instructions on gettting your data cable to work with your phone and programs on the computer.....
Summary:
1) Download Drivers
2) Install Bitpim
3) Install Brewsky
4) Turn off cell phone
5) Plug cable into PC
6) Plug cable into cellphone
7) Phone will boot
8) XP Will ask for drivers, direct it to the Curitel directory and then shutdown PC
9) Reboot
10) Set Port driver to same as modem (e.g. COM4)
11) Run Bitpim
12) Click on Log
13) Goto Edit=>Settings
14) Change Com Port to what the port & modem are set to (e.g. COM4)
15) Run Data=> Get Phone Data
16) Log will say "Now in brew mode"
17) Close Bitpm
18) Open Brewsky
19) Change port to correct port (e.g. Com4) and your Wireless Service
20) Click Connect
21) Reboot phone to see new ringtones

Full Instructions:

1) Download Drivers
Download the Curitel drivers and unzip them to a temp directory. I got them from here:
http://home.mchsi.com/~cuwmb2/8900p...Usb_Drivers.rar

2)Install Bitpim
Download the Bitpim software and install it. I got it from:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...up.exe?download

3) Install Brewsky
Download Brewsky and install it. I got it from:
http://www.dietk.com/brewsky/Brewsky8900_1_01.exe

4) Turn off cell phone
Push red phone end button to power down.

5) Plug cable into PC
Plug the USB cable into an open USB port on your PC

6) Plug cable into cellphone
plug the other end of the cable into your cell

7) Phone will boot
Your phone should flash and startup and connect to the wireless network as normal. You will notice from this point on the red power off/end button on the cell becomes inactive until you unplug from the PC

8) XP will ask for drivers, direct it to the Curitel directory
XP should see the phone now and ask you for the drivers. Point it to the directory where you stored the downloaded Curitel files. The install will load three elements 1-modem driver, 2-port driver, 3-USB driver Naturally windows will tell you these are not approved drivers but just ignore the three warnings and continue with the installations.

9) Reboot
Unplug the cable from the PC and power down the cellphone. Reboot the PC.

10) Set Port driver to same as modem (e.g. COM4)
Once XP has completed booting, plug the USB cable back in. The phone should boot and the drivers should be recognized with the new hardware. You now need to adjust the driver settings. Go into Start=>Settings=>Control Panel=>System
Click Hardware, Click "Device Manager"
Click the + next to "Modems", you should see Curitel Packet Service, double-click on it to open the settings. Click on the Modem tab and read which Port: it has defaulted to (e.g. COM2)
If you want to verify the communication line with your phone, click on the Diagnostics Tab and click "Query Modem" it should respond in about 15 seconds with:
ATQ0V1E0 Success
AT+GMM +GMM:Model CDM-8900
AT+FCLASS=? 0,2.0
AT#CLS=? COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
<etc>

When done click OK.
Click the + next to Ports (COM & LPT), you should see "Curitel Packet Service Diagnostic Serial Port" double-click on it to open the settings. Click on the "Port Settings" tab then click on the Advanced button. Look at the COM port listed on the bottom. If it is not set
the same as your modem change it to what your modem said. It will probably say "in use" that's okay just select it anyway and ignore the warnings and keep clicking OK. I don't think you have to reboot after changing these setting but if you're having any trouble connecting on the next step go ahead and reboot, then check the port settings when
XP loads again.

11) Run Bitpim
As far as I can tell Bitpim is needed to initialize the connection for Brewsky. So run Bitpim then:
12) Click on Log
13) Goto Edit=>Settings
14) Change Com Port to what the port & modem are set to (e.g. COM4)
Auto might work for you but it didn't work for me. When you click on the com port Browse button it will show you the active ports. If your phone is on, plugged in, and the drivers are working you should see "Curitel Packet Service Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM) (COMn) where "n" is your modem and port COM number. When you highlight it and click "Refresh" it should say "This port is open and can be selected" with "active true" and "available true"
Click OK to close the window and OK again to close the settings

15) Run Data=> Get Phone Data
To initialize the connection go to Data=>Get Phone Data and select any item (e.g. ringtone) This will attempt to contact the phone. You will likey get some timeout errors and then it should say:
COM2: Open of comm port succeded
LG-VX4400: Attempting to contact phone
LG-VX4400: Getting file contents 'dloadindex/brewRingerIndex.map'

An error window will then come up ending with the line:
"BrewNoSuchFileException: No such file"

Click OK.

16) Log will say "Now in brew mode"
Despite the error the last line will read "Now in brew mode" which as far as I can tell, means the phone is ready for Brewsky.

17) Close Bitpm
DO NOT try to use Bitpim and Brewsky at the same time.

18) Open Brewsky

19) Change port to correct port (e.g. Com4) and your phone service
Use the drop downs at the bottom of the window to select the correct com port and wireless service

20) Click Connect
The status bar should say "Phone: ready..." If it says "port open" you might have selected the wrong com port number or need to try Bitpim again. Once connected any ring tones in your Brewsky ringtone directory (C:\Program Files\Brewsky 8900\RingTones\) will appear on the left and ringtones already downloaded on your phone will appear on the right. Consult the forums if you need help using Brewsky.

21) Reboot phone to see new ringtones
Once you've completed your downloads you can either use the Tools=>Reboot Phone option or unplug the cable and turn off the phone. When you restart the phone it should show your new ringtones in the Media Gallery=>Tones=>Downloads

Note, once you reboot the phone you have to close Brewsky and start bitpim again to get the phone back to "brew mode"
