Unlocking locked files on the SE47

I've heard a lot of people say they've deleted some files on the SE47 to open up more space but I've been trying on bitpim and on the phone but I haven't been able to delete them. i was wondering how I go about deleteing them or if possible, opening up my phone to modification. if anyone has info on anything other than changing ERI files, making wallpapers, and creating ringtones, please reply.

what are you looking to delete? like those crappy built-in ringers? the built in pics?

have you tried creating a dummy file with the same name on your hd and overwriting the file on your phone?

ooo...haven't tried that, any special way i should go about it? just make a blank notepad file and change the extention?

that didnt work for me

basically I'm trying to delete the preset ringers, some preset sounds(like I have the VZW SE47 and it doesn't come with tetris but I found the sound file for it on my phone using bitpim, but it's not located in any ringer or my sound menu in the phone...weird huh?), and all the crappy preset wall papers. some other things I'm trying to delete are the different language files on my phone in the brew folder and some other areas because god knows I don't plan to learn spanish german or french to use my phone. so yeah, all of those need to go. then maybe I can start loading some BIG mp3 files. (up to 745 kb's already tried!)

random side question someone just asked me: anyone know about MMF files being able to be played on the SE47?

Posted by: realgt

dont know about mmf files....can't convert them to mp3s?

also i think it might have to do with the sw version you have because i seem to recall deleting some of those ringers myself on another slider but with an earlier sw version, ns1019...which is what i have now and what i think makes the difference in having large mp3s and slow load times.....
i'm gonna call you thatUPGRADEDSWVERSIONkoreanguy

so uh yeah...how did you go about replacing files? cause I'd love to replace some of those language files with blank dummy files so i can put in full 3-4 MB mp3's on my phone

??

if anyone ends up figuring this out, it would be GREAT!

I would love to delete:

1. Languages (other than English)
2. lame ringers that are locked
3. lame wallpapers
4. lame images from My Pictures
5. lame sounds from My Sounds

I think I may have found a way to get more space for the slider.
1)load up gagin
2)see how much free space you have then write it down somewhere
3)exit gagin and fire up bitpim
4)go to user>wallpaper
5)now create a dummy file using notepat, renme it wallpaper.dat then overwrite that file.
Now if done right you shouldnt get an error like you would when you would try to replace the ringtones (if you tried)
6)okay now shut down bitpim and open up gagin and check how much space you have.I forgot the first step so i dont know if I gained space or not so if someone could test it like i did and let me know because my phone still has the wallpapers yet i replaced that "wallpaper.dat" with a dummy and didnt get a message error.

EDIT: I just tried this with the zi8udb.dat file and it seemed to free up some space as well.I have to check to see if it messed up any files though dont worry i BACKED UP THE FILE and if you attempt to do this so should you

if you search that data file you'll see that all that file does is tell the phone which files can be used as wallpapers. open bitpim and do a hexdump. the only thing you'll see in there is a bunch of blanks and any BMP files you created. sorry. but good try.

×××× im going to keep trying...it shouldnt be this hard to delete those default wallpapers language files etc.

Posted by: realgt

just so you know, it is possible and i had a phone without default wallpapers, or default ringers....but i had to restore my nvm/efs settings from a backup qcn file and it restored my old wallpapers and default crappy ringers, so it must be a file saved within the qcn off the EFS...in any case it might have more to do with sw version than anything i have ns1014 on my vzw/metropcs slider....

if i get a chance i'll look on my phone see what i can do to help out with the goal of this thread
