BestBuy 1.30 and Orange sticker???

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I saw some post indicating that BB had 1.30 firmware. I've been calling my local stores looking for black stickers but they only have orange. They have been getting new phones in but only orange stickers. I saw a post that someone got 1.30 firmware with an orange sticker from BB. Can anyone confirm this? My phone is only 2 weeks old and I would like to exchange at BB and get the new firmware.

BB does have new phones with firmware 1.30 and they have Orange stickers.

I would recommend that you "power up" the new phone and check the version before walking out.

I went to BB tonight. The black dots are smaller and located about two inches away from the large orange dot. So my guess is that the SW V 1.30 has both a large orange dot and a small black dot. I made a call with the 1.3 phone and did NOT notice any difference in earpiece volume. Also, my contacts are in the internal memory and not on the SIM card and I did not want to lose them. So I did not swap it out.

Another thing was that it took twice as long for the 1.30 phone to boot up. What is up with that?

If it was the first boot up..it takes a long time. :-)

No difference with a call made on 1.30 firmware??? So many people on the forrum indicate that the call volume is so much better. Can anyone respond to that. I don't want to waste my time switching out phones for one that is the same.

After going throught all the MPx220 exchanges, I've probably lost it a little so take this with a grain of salt.

I had a .342 and did an XBM with Cingular and got the 1.3 F/W. It seemed much improved and I was pretty happy. After about a week I noticed that the side up volume button wasn't working as well as it was. Instead of calling XBM again, I went to Best Buy to see if they had a 1.3 phone. They did and I did an exchange (I probably should not have been able to as the IMEI did not match up, but I played stupid and all went well). On the new 1.3 BB Mpx220, the earpiece and speaker sounded more distorted, so the next day I did another exchange. Also 1.3, the earpiece sounded better; however, I don't believe it's as loud as my original XBM 1.3 MPx220.

It's difficult to accurately compare a phone from a week ago with the current phone, so who really knows. However, the last two phones were compared side-by-side, and there was a difference. I believe that the MPx220 has some Hardware Quality issues in addition to the software fixes.

For $50 ($25 if you count the gift card), I should not complain.

No doubt that should I have to do another XBM with Cingular, the non-matching IMEI will cause me all sorts of problems. Perhaps I should have kept the XBM unit with the potential volume button issue.

Ahhh, the never ending MPx220 story will continue :-)

I have had 3 different firmware versions of the MPX220: .325 - .342 & 1.30 (all from BestBuy).
.342 & 1.30 have an orange sticker on the box (no black sticker or black dots anywhere for the 1.30).

The .342 was a clear improvement over the .325 as far as the handset volume and the 1.30 has pretty much the same handset volume that the .342 WITHOUT the vibrations many experienced when listening to their correspondent with the volume set on the highest level.
Also, the 1.30 solved an issue I had with the .325 and .342 regarding the handset functioning with a bluetooth headset (as reported here).

Frankly, this phone is functioning perfectly; I don't really know why one would be complaining about the handset volume as it is as loud (if not louder) than any cellphone I have owned to date. All other functions are performing as well as advertised (camera, mms, sms, email, internet, mp3 player, etc).

Is the f/w 1.30 available in all BB stores..&How much is it now??

Posted by: carlheizer

I did my exchange last night. My f/w version 1.30 works fine also. And it not have a small black dot.

Went to a local BestBuy and exchanged my 0.342 (orange sticker) with a new 1.30. The new box did not have *any* sticker on it. The version number found under the battery for the new phone says v0.342, and my 0.342 phone said 0.325. So maybe the stickers are for those originally had 0.325?
