I am in dire need of a savior!! I can't say great things about my phone...the first kept, for some dam reason, turning off when making calls. Its replacement broke within a week of receiving it. The latest isn't giving me trouble but ALL my numbers were in the first one...which I unfortunately threw around and nicely damaged after it turned off one too many times on a bad day I was having. It seems that it may still be able to retain a charge, but the light doesnt come on and the screen is also shot to hell. SO, my question, or what have you, is...is there any way to retrieve them? Is there any kind of phone surgeon or guru out there? The way I see it...they are stored on some kind of memory and really have no ties, as far as i iknow, with the screen or battery....right? ....there was this number I got from a guy who would help me get this great job and the only place i had it was in that phone!! And I'm sure you all have an idea how important some of your numbers are and how it would really screw your day up if this happen. So please!! Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

First off, never throw a phone around in anger....

End result: Dead phone....LOL

I guess you never backed up your NEC 525 w/ datacable? Oh well

As for retrieving numbers from your dead phone, highly unlikely unless you send it in to a service center familar with your NEC.

Be prepared to pay BIG $$ for diagnostics/repair, and data retrieval if at all possible.

Instead of the guy's phone# landing you a big $ job, seems like its going to cost you big $ just to attempt to recover the data... so live and learn from this costly mistake.

Peace out

If the phone isn't broken, you should easily be able to back the contacts on a SIM card.

You don't even need to see the screen to do this...

Press the Menu button
Press the Blue button
(You might have to press the Blue button again this time, not sure...depends on how the phone is acting...mine sometimes brings up "List" which I just bypass by pressing the Blue button again)

(Now he is the part that might take 3 tries to get this right, the NEC 515 and 525 allow you to switch between viewing the SIM, Phone, FDN and complete. Phone and Complete will allow you to copy to SIM.)

Press Menu
Press the 3 button
Press the Blue button
Press the 2 button
Press the Left soft key.

That will begin the process of saving your contacts to your SIM card from the phone.

If this doesn't work, you just need to press the Phonebook button to cycle to the next of the 4 modes (SIM, Phone, FDN, Complete) to find either Phone or Complete after the first two steps. Like I said, it could take 3 tries, but it's worth it. This will only work if the phone still functions, but the screen is destroyed.
