mp3 playback issues

I'm having a problem with mp3 playback on my MPx220.
Version 1.3
256 mb sandisk minisd
using windows media player
repeat, shuffle, and background play
mix of .wma and .mp3 files
Essentially, certain files in my playlist will stop prematurely, at seemingly random points in the track. The tracks play normally on a pc.
Any idea what is to blame? Could it be the 1.3 problems with minisd? Could it be the minisd card itself? Is it because window media player is fairly crappy? A malfunctioning device?
I've tried soft resetting the device.
Has anyone had similar problems?

well. I have a ?.. before this problem did the mp3's play okay.or dd they sound crappy?also when you uploaded a video of some sort on the phone did it come out okay or is it blurry/gibberish?
