Hey Everyone, I lost my 8900 and I just got a new one. I luckely backed up my phonebook but I am trying to restore the "Phonebook" file in Bitpm, and the phone is not seeing the contacts. Is there a protocol for this to make it work? Has anyone had any luck?

Make sure you have the right drivers for the phone, make sure you have fully connected the USB driver into your computer. Could be the COM settings also..check all of that then let me know if you need any other help with that.

Glad to help

Thank you so much for the reply! I have had no problems hooking the phone up with the correct drivers and such, it is just that nothing changed when I overwrote the "phone book" file. Is there something else that I am supposed to do?

Did you reboot the phone as soon as it overwrote the file?

Yes, i rebooted the phone. I was doing some searching and people are saying that they too have had problems with this. They said that they needed to put in "Dummy" contacts or something like that. I don't know, it seems like this might be a lost cause.

I would try this:
Put the phone on DM mode
Upload file with QPST EFS
Reboot the phone from the EFS

I think it should work.

What is is DM mode? What is QPST EFS? Sorry for all the questions. now I am headed into uncharted territory.

DM=Diagnostic Monitor
QPST EFS=It's the filesystem browser which comes with the QPST (Qualcomm PST, a software for doing "service stuff" to the phone)

HOw do I enable all these things? Is this it BitPM or on the phone itself. I am not familiar with this part. Thank you so much for the replies!!!

This phone is a Verizon phone, so I don't know if it can do what you are talking about because of the difference in firmware. I can't seem to find the things that you mentioned above.

It's okay if you have a Verizon phone, it doesn't matter. Download QPST from here: http://phone.sphereshards.com/QPST2_7.zip

You should figure it out how to use it. If the phone doesn't put itself on DM mode while you use the EFS (I think it will), press **1004 END on the phone to put it on DM mode.

No problem I'm glad it worked.

I never make questions when something works, I just get happy it worked, now it doesn't matter it did not with BitPim, does it?

I guess it is a difference in personality. Sometimes it is nice when it works and not to ask questions, but at the same time it seems weird that it appears that both programs are doing the same thing, and only one works. Oh well.

Well actually they're not doing the same thing. BitPim works in BREW mode while QPST works in DM mode as you could see. This is AFAIK.

Gotcha, you answered my question about the difference between the two programs. Thanks so much for all your help again!
