I have the SMT 5600, but i'd love this as a second phone. I've never had an unlocked phone before, though, will it work on any network even if its a 800/1800 phone? plus is 200 a good deal?

its a 900/1800 phone and will not work in north america

Would work, but reception would be pretty bad

not it would not, it does not have the 850 or 1900 bands so please try not to post false info

From my understanding of the frequencies used in North America, the 900/1800 would work, but in smaller, rural areas, you would more than likely not get any reception... North America typically use 850, 1800 and 1900, and European and other areas use the 900 instead of 850, but all places support 1800 and 1900 in the more populous regions.. If you're in New York, L.A., Dallas, etc., the 900/1800 should work for you, but if you travel to a smaller area, there's no satellites providing coverage for 1800/1900 frequencies, so the phone will attempt to pick up the 850mhz freq., but since that phone doesn't carry it, that means no reception for you.

Also T-Mobile is the provider that works like this, Cingular will not.. If you have T-Mobile, you can get reception off of Cingulars satellites, but if you have Cingular, you can't get reception from T-Mobile's.

Go figure.

I hope this information is completely correct, I have my flame-retardent suit on standby if not.

OH MY GOD! for the third time the phone will not work. There are only TWO bands used in NA, 850 and 1900. The neonode has neither of these so it WILL NOT WORK! Tmobile is 1900 only, att and cingular use 1900 and 850. Simple as that.

You apparently know nothing about phones. Phones don't communicate with satelites, they communicate with towers that are on ground. The Cingular/tmobile relationship you are trying to talk about is for the califonia area only (i think, it may also be for NY) but its basically where cingular was sharing towers with tmobile.

Is there anyone else around here to back me on this? I don't want this guy to purchase this phone based to these two people who haven't the slightest idea what they are talking about

North America uses 850 and 1900 Mhz only.

Use can always check the band by yourself at http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/index.shtml

Hope this will end the arguement......
