SMT 5600 migrated to Orange, coverage problems

Curious if anyone has any ideas on this. I have an unlocked SMT 5600 now on Cingular. Last week I migrated my account from Blue to Orange. The rep told me that I'd have the same or better coverage as the towers have already been merged. I should've followed my HOFO intuition and said no they aren't, but it is somewhat different per market segments so I took her word for it.

Blue is a much stronger provider in our market, so I've now found out. I called Cingular to try and figure out why I was having such poor coverage. Sitting here at my desk in my office, on Blue I had all my bars, with Orange, I have none, but still have an Orange signal. They agreed to switch my account to prefer Blue towers, which they said they did and I didn't believe them as my signal never got any better. Today I brought in my V220 which Cingular provided and I put the 64k SIM into that phone, sure enough, it is preferring Blue as it should, and I have all the bars. Any idea why the 5600 isn't picking up that reprogram to Blue, and if there is something that I can do to make it do so?
