K700i any known problems?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i've owned mine for about 4 months now, and i've got issues with it... the sticker turned yellow before falling off completely.. the "online" sticker is slowly peeling away.
The phone crashes/freezes/resets when it wants, the display light switches itself off and pushing buttons doesnt turn it on.. so i have to return to the phone main screen lock the keypad and then the light will return...

anyone else had any of these problems - and had them resolved?? if so HOWW

Tomm

you can start by updating your firmware if you haven't done so.

You can do it online @ http://www.sonyericsson.com/updates...00/frameset.htm if you have the sync station (You know if you have it )
If you don't have it you can probably get it done at the shop where you bought your phone, but that might not be for free.

where can u purchase a sync station? i've been to the company i bought it from and they have to send it someplace..and i dont trust them lol

Posted by: elcapitan

Check on ebay, your are going to need an either dss-20 or dss-25 syncstation.

The only real problems I have is that it reboots sometimes when I use GPRS. It's been more rare since I upgraded the firmware.

Another weird thing was that my Pocket PC couldn't connect unless you set the modem initialization string to "ATZ". This is fixed too in R2L.

i have a non-firmware issue.

when i put pressure on the battery cover, it makes a loud squeeking noise. it makes the phone feel very cheap. is this a common problem?

O2 have removed the K700i from its available phones due to the amount of problems there customers have been having.

Phoned O2 this morning as I have been having problems sending MMS messages... sometimes they work and some times they don't. Also I can go 3 or 4 days with recieving a single txt message then all of a sudden im bombarded with them.

When i spoke to O2 about this they said its a know issue with the K700i and have removed it from there selection of phones, and I can choose a replacement. I asked for the S700i and was informed there getting alot of quiries with simillar problems with this phone.

Anyone know if there is a firmware update to resolve these issues? she said there wasn't a fix at the moment, hense the offer to swap my phone.

Posted by: tommeh

0o0o excellent.. i may have to do that myself.. im with O2 (money grabbing bastiches!)
what did u say to them to get the phone swapped???

Posted by: nwSleeper

Just ring up and say you have a K700i and that your messages have been playing up and that you heard they were being recalled because of this reason.

Theres only a set list to choose from for a replacement though.

They are;

Samsung E700
Nokia 6610i
Nokia 6230
Nokia 6260
O2 X3
Motorola v600
Nokia 6600
Sony Erricson T630

More or less all phones that where released at the same time as the K700i.

I tried to blag the Motorola V3 but they wern't having non of it! lol

Posted by: tommeh

really what a bunch of wasters lol... what phone did u choose???
I might just wait till my contract runs out then get another one you kno..

Posted by: nwSleeper

got the 6230, it was the phone i was originally going to have until i spoted the K700i back in august!

Changing your phone now with O2 doesn't effect ure upgrade when your contract is up for renewal.

Posted by: tommeh

oh really?? excellent.. ok then might give it a go.. thanks mate wherebouts u from???

Posted by: nwSleeper

my 1 month old k700i has a minor glitch. it resets when switching on the camera using the camera button. it's a good thing this only happens quite rarely.

fyi phone's firmware is R2AE033.

I had to comment on this... I'm new to the forum (with a S700i arriving soon) and I saw this thread - I was born in Gravesend!
41 years, 1 week and 2 days ago to be exact... in Bristol now, not been back in years.

I got tired of trying to get this phone to mms,and wap so I sent it back and am getting the nokia 6230 I wanted in the first place. It is a nice phone but for the price it should work better, plus I think the speaker is not loud enough for me.

Did you try to use the sony ericsson website to setup the settings for mms and wap? I worked perfectly on my phone.

Posted by: tcseacliff

elcapitan, thanx for the reply. the sony was the first site i tried,no response from the wap,the mms,or e-mail. sony couldn't even get a response. even got all the settings from cingular and we put them in manually, the ip address, passwords etc,. nothing. soi today, I got my 6230-couldn't be happier!!! e-mail -flawless,bluetooth perfect, and besides i like the nokia menus better, the phone is louder the camera works better,so all in all a good phone, for me ,better than the 700i. peace!!

Oh dear... just ordered one of these off the o2 website!

You said they have been recalled/canceld? Hopefully mine will arrive. I was told just today that I could buy one of these.
I was also told that the telephone sales people make things up as they go along (in not so many words).

So I doubt it is true when they say there is no fix. I am considering weather to get a connection station thingy to upgrade the phone... darn it... I needed that money for a bluetooth dongle and a 64mb duo card

i think your provider should be the one responsible for setting up wap/mms on your phone. that's how mine was set-up. they just sent it to me OTA and i just saved the settings. no hassles at all.

we gave up cingular did all they could . we put in all their settings the phone just wouldn't co-operate. so, i now have the nokia 6230-WOW !! couldn't be happier. phone works great.bluetooth perfect. and I really like the nokia menus better.everything is easier to use and navigate. no more sony for me, thanks for your replies. peace!

Posted by: tcseacliff

i am new to htis forum ,what is this "O2" people keep quoting?are they a wesite ,a dealer? I am curious. thanx

Posted by: chris49

O2 is the name of a network like orange and vodafone in england,

I've just received my new K700i and I want to have the address book sort the contacts by last name. I was able to do this on my S710a and the menus look identical, but I can't remember for the life of me how I was able to do it.

I did go to phonebook, options, advanced, sync order, and chose "last name" but it still orders them by first name. I did this with the S710a also and tried to reverse the order (sort by first name) and that didn't work either.

Can anyone help? I know I'm not the only person who's been frustrated by this...

Thanks...
