Best data cable.......

Hello,

Im new to the forums and have searched thru 10 pages of old posts but have not found a definitive answer. There seems to be two different types of data cables for the CDM8900. One with a box inline with the cable, and one without a box on the cable. There's so many posts on problems getting the data cables to work, I would like to know which one is the best to buy. Also, if one brand is better than the other that would be nice to know as well. So.................

What is the best, most hassle free cable to get for the 8900? And does the box type have any advantage or disadvantage over the straight thru type? Is the one from Radio Shack worth the extra money over the ebay cables? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

Todd

Cables without the "box" are serial. The box is a serial to USB converter, which you don't need if you have a serial port available on your comp. Serial cables don't need drivers, that's why they're better for some people, but USB cables might be faster.

BTW, I use a serial cable

If the straight thru ones are serial, why does it have a usb interface? Do you mean that even though its a usb cable the drivers have it emulate as a com port?

USB is a commercial thing, most people will buy it because they don't even know what's a serial port. And some other people don't have a serial port on their comps.

Drivers do emulate a serial port from the USB.

I've read some posts that say to use the VX6000 data cable. Should I use this one or the one that's for the CDM-8900? Thanks

from the over 60 pages I've read the LG 6000 is the one you want. Some people have had greater troubles with the actual 8900 cable (don't know why)

Just do Buy It Now.

There are so many on e-bay that you can get for cheap.

Here's a whole bunch:

Stay clear of the data/power charger cables. The standard data cables already power the phone and charge it for you.
