I'm trying to link up my Yahoo account with my SK2. The specs in the SK2 manual for server name and port keep returning an error. Can someone please help

have you paid for pop3 access?

I guess that would solve the problem....Thanks

People, you cannot setup http email accounts on the sidekick.. this would include but not limited to hotmail, yahoo, lycos, altavista etc etc etc..

Any web based email where you have to type in your username and password on a webpage: these things cannot be setup on the sidekick.

If you have the paid yahoo or hotmail service then they provide you with a pop3 server: this you can setup on the sk device people!!

I know there are exceptions to this rule but as a general rule of thumb you cannot do http emails.

What you can do is have these emails fwd to your tmail account and if you have an AOL account use the following link to check that dmail.aol.com

As a possible SK2 purchaser who has Yahoo Mail Plus, could i get my mail via the Yahoo website?

I have been able to check the emails but not send any due to the Java script limitations of the device. Getting web based mail on the device is almost impossible

After much trouble and failure of setting up Yahoo! Mail on my sidekick, I realized that I had to pay the $20 to get the premium service. I did, and still, nothing.

Quote:
Your POP account at server pop.mail.yahoo.com, port 110 could not be validated. Go to the Settings>Accounts>Edit screen, check that you typed the correct information, then try again.

PASS failed: -ERR Error logging in. Please visit http://mail.yahoo.com

This is the exact error message I got even before signing up for premium Yahoo. I've tried about 20 different things trying to get this to work. I tried all of the other port options, I've tried different cases for both password and user name, I've tried altering the address to things like mail.yahoo.com or pop3.mail.yahoo.com just in case it magically works. I'm 100% positive that my user name and password is correct.

Could anyone please suggest some problems that may be occuring or some fix to it? I've searched several different sites and have been Googling for hours, but have found nothing.

Thanks.

edit: Also, Yahoo says that when setting up a POP account, it must be enabled for Outgoing Email Server "smtp.mail.yahoo.com." As far as I can tell the Sidekick2 isn't compatible for this. There isn't any field for it and I haven't come across any actual sucess stories with setting Yahoo up with the built in email system.

if you have Yahoo premium, there is an option under premium options that will allowu to put another email address to forward your yahoo messages to. Put your sidekick Email there

That is a workaroundI use for BB Users

edit: I found it. It was a tiny little thing of text under an area that wasn't even close to what this is.

Still a pain that it doesnt just show up normally

So as i understand it, the only way i could use Yahoo mail on a SK is to have Yahoo forward my messages to my Sidekick's email address. Is that right?

Actually This is something I always wanted to know. Does the Fido Hip top allow access to WAP Pages? The T-mobile one Doesn't support ANY wap Browsing what so ever and I know the manual mentions it.

no the SK doesn't allow wap browsing, that website is technically not a wap site becuase it can be viewed with IE, but its just a mobile version of yahoo mail...

same thing happened to me when i first got yahoo mail plus. turns out it takes up to 72 hours to activate the pop3 forwarding/ access once you get yahoo mail plus.

So you can't just go to the Yahoo website to check your mail on the SK, because the device doesn't support Javascript, right? I'm glad i asked before getting a SK, because i was assuming you could do that.

Posted by: Munch357

You can access and read your mail on the SK2 from the Yahoo Mail site. When you go to reply or compose messages (if your browser allows you), that is when you get the Java Script error.

fyi, this is basically an html-enabled wap page. if youre using wap, it uses the wap port and gets the wap data, but if you try to access its html page at port 80, it gives you the html version which is (thankfully) mobile friendly..

not all WAP pages have html-alternates like this..

I've gotten my buddy's SKII to retrieve My Yahoo mail once. (I have Yahoo Mail Plus). I had him sign up for YM Plus and now it doesn't work for him or me. WTF!

Posted by: runfirst

Got It Workin!

I deleted the Yahoo settings out of the SKII. I logged into Tmo website and setup the email there and it works.

My buddy can now receive Yahoo mail through the SKII.
