Hola. Want to mention that I've learned a ton from perusing the old posts here over the last few days, so kudos and thanks and all that to all the fine folks who help out.

Okay, just got my first cell. It's an Audiovox 8910, through Bell Mobility (Toronto, Canada area). I also picked up the DICU-8400B USB cable, and snagged BitPim to give things a whirl.

Like many others, I'm a stingy bastage and don't want to have to pay to load ringtones onto the phone, so of course I've been trying to figure out how to do it myself. Unfortunately, it seems that the filesystem is different from both previous generation Audiovox phones, as well as other 8910's. There's no download_snd.txt or whatever, no separate directories. All "user data" such as pictures, tones, games, is stored in "/MA/" in the fs. There's three other files, "camInfo", "contentInfo", and "ff.cki". camInfo is, for the most part, 7kb's of 0's, whereas contentInfo seems to be some sort of index that lists the remaining files in the directory. Oh, and the ff.cki is a 0 length file.

Anyway, does anyone else know what sort of trickery would be necessary to make the phone "see" user-uploaded files? I've been thinking about trying to figure out the contentInfo file structure, but I've been rather busy lately.

Oh, and I have another, probably easier to answer, question: on the DICU-8400B cable, there's a button. When this button is pressed, a red led comes on on the cable. What, if anything, does this button do? It doesn't seem to affect the connection at all, regardless of it's state.

The RED LED on probably means that the cable is going into Data + Charger mode.

My cable is just a Data cable, yet, it powers my phone and charges it anyway.

*shrug*
