i was wondering if anyone out there knew how to either customize the standby feature on the ericsson T68i or how to shut off that ugly clock that comes on when it goes into standby...If someone could help i would be very greatful

No way to change that...

On the t681, go to a website like wap.esato.com and down load a screen saver, that will replace the clock.

no way you can change or get rid of the clock, it's there and it's permanent...can't get rid of it...

Yes you can't get rid of it, but am I the only person that likes the clock?

I know its to save battery life, but whats the point of having a screen saver AND the clock?? They could have not put in a screensaver, just the clock.

Wont having JUST the clock save more battery life then the screensaver and the clock??

to make the phone more appealing to consumers...for some special effects, you know, marketing ploy IMO...if you really wanna know why, ask Sony Ericsson...

Personally, I think the clock is a great idea. I never wear a watch, and often use my cell phone as watch.

My old T28W was good for that, but I love how it's much larger on the T68i.

I'd be even happier if they would add the date!

i always wear a watch...

i don't mind the clock, but think an analog one (a la moto v70) would be neat

Actually, the purpose of a screensaver is not to conserve energy; in fact it wastes energy. All it does is protect the monitor display from getting a "burned ghost image" by constantly having a moving sequence on the screen. Though I dobt that will happen with the phone, but wonders never cease.

is there anyway to set the screensaver longer say like 5 hours?!?! so the clock doesnt show for that long??

Posted by: sigurds

i like the clock. its quite practical

Is there a way to see the time at nite???

What i mean is that is there a button or keypress to get the clock to brighten up so that u can see the time instead of unlocking the keypad lock to see what time it is??

Well the screensaver isn't anything real. It's just an animation that kicks in for vain and stupid users before the clock comes on. I deleted all screen savers. It's a waste of memory.

Personally, I like having the clock on the T300. It'd be nice if there was the date to go along with it. But this clock feature is also found on some of the new Nokias. My first roommate has a 6610 and his phone would show the clock in standby mode. But the clock sucks 'cause it doesn't deactivate to notify you of an SMS or of a missed call, but maybe I wasn't paying attention but the phone didn't ring to indicate an incoming SMS.

Oh well, it's nice to have though

Ok you guys are totally odd.

1) What is the point of the clock?
TO SAVE POWER!

LCD's set to black are OFF believe it or not. That is why the screen is black with the white clock it is using very little power. Also the clock moves around to prevent burn in.

Someone ask if it is possible to touch a button and to have the clock disappear.
DUH, that would defeat the point wouldn't it. If it is in your pocket and any button turns off then it wouldn't be on much would it.

2) What is the point of the screensavers?
None, they are something for the geeks to play with.

In the end it saves a ton of power, if you had that screensaver running the whole time your battery would last a day.

i stopped wearing my G-Shock watch, once i got my T68i, that was back in October 2002!

Yes, LCD's still get burn in but if you turn the unit off it fades over time.

That was the original purpose. Screensavers today r now more of an customization issue.

@ PCDawg

If you just press one of the side buttons + /- it will show the clock at night without having to unlock keypad ect...

Get a K700i - you can select to either turn off display completely or go to clock. I suspect that future SE phones like S700, etc. will be set up the same...
