Headset Jack on the 8900

Does this thing suck for anyone else at all? I have two 8900s. One is mine and one is my mother's.

My brother got me a handsfree set for Christmas from Radio Shack, and the jack on the 8900 is too loose. The headset plug simply doesn't stay in the jack.

I'm thinking that Audiovox made a poor design choice here. My brother has an 8600, and the headset jack plugs in with a *SNAP* and it stays in, and you can even hold the phone from it.

With the 8900, the jack slips right out if it turns even a little bit, or the sound goes out completely like it was never plugged in.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've had my 8900 for over a year now, and I've never had the headphone come out of the jack. Like your brother, I can hang the phone from the cord.

Have you always had this trouble, or did it just pop up.

Did you buy the phones new or used; are they refurbished models?

Are you using a headphone with a different size plug, or one for a 2.5mm jack like the 8900 has?

If you're using the correct size plug, then you have a broken jack on the phone, it has a tab inside of it that holds the plug so it doesn't come off easily.

Well, here's the problem.

It's sorta the phone, and it's sorta the headset jack.

Yes, it is a standard 2.5mm jack.

But the problem is the shape of the jack. The headset works great in his 8600, but it works terribly in my 8900. My mother's was the same way, and they are BOTH brand new.

So I remembered my sister had a headset from RadioShack a while back, so I grabbed that headset and plugged it into the phone and VOILA, it works great.

So the actual problem is that the "STANDARD" 2.5mm plugs aren't exactly designed to "STANDARD".

People don't really adhere to the standards I guess. Funny thing is, both headsets are from RadioShack, and one works or "fits" better than the other.
