Hi,
I'm starting a new thread on this. Thanks to jleecong's settings posted at MoDaCo I am now able to get basic Internet on my SMT 5600 with T-Mobile. I'm now at the stage where I'm not sure which problems I'm experiencing are due to phone/network problems/settings and which are just because I'm new to this whole topic and Smartphones in general.
I'll just try and lay out some of my newbie questions in no particular order of importance.
1. I have my homescreen set to AWS, which I assume means "ATT Wireless Services"? This puts and mMode icon in the top bar. I can get rid of this by using one of the Windows home screens. Is that the only way?
2. In second line of the homescreen it says "Cingular," which obviously isn't correct. In looking at the screenshot jleecong posted I see that his says "T-Mobile." So there must be some way to get the phone to recognize and report which network it's using.
3. I currently have the $19.95 unlimited Internet plan as I wanted to test out everything. Using jleecong's settings I don't get any sign of T-Zones. In the portion of the home screen where his picture shows "Yahoo" and "T-Zones" mine shows: "Sports," "Enterntainment," "News," and "Search." None of them do anything except produce an error message (after "connecting" and movement on the Windows flag icon) saying that "Your request for a service could not be fulfilled. Please try again or contact your operator if the problem persists."
4. Often when I hit the IE icon in the top part of the home page I get the same message. However, if I access a site saved in Favorites, then I'm on the Internet. And if I press the IE icon again, it goes to the page I last viewed. ??? I'm nowwondering if I'm just staying connected to Internet sites and not exiting from IE. I guess it doesn't matter if I have unlimited access, but I would like to understand this behavior.
Maybe there is a book or something I could/should study to get the basics of Smartphone operating??
TIA for any pointers.
