DO i need both jad and jar files to send games to my v300?

Yup - you first need to enable the Java app loader menu (search the forum for how), and then use Midway - star the app loader, then start midway, open the jad and send it over.

Thanks. I was just wondering because I've noticed alot of places which host games only host the jar file, I can never find the jad.

You can make the Jad file with an app like Jadgen - just drag the jar file to jadgen, et voila un jar file; there are some games that it doesn't work for though.

where can I get jadgen? Is it free?

Posted by: clonmult

Pretty much free - do a google search for "Jadgen download", the fourth hit will give you the right info.

on my k700 it wouldn't let me send the jad file, and the game works without it - is the jad required specially for the v300?

Yup. You can get away without the JAD if you do a bluetooth obex push, which you obviously can't do if the phone doesn't have bluetooth (ie. V300 has no bluetooth).

The V500/600, which are the same as the V300 but with bluetooth support this functionality.

The JAD is the Java application description, which can give a lot of extra information that isn't explicit in the JAR file, and some applications do actually require it to be setup and correct (probably mainly for web installs).

Actually, that is the main reason for the JAD - when you download a game via the web, you point the phone to the JAD file, which then tells the phone where to download the JAR file.

well i actually sent the file over IR, but i can see what you're getting at .

I had totally forgotten about IR to send stuff over - colleagues use it for their 6230s, I've always used a cable for my V525/300/E398/T720 (handy that they are all the same cable).

How quick is the IR connection - do files get sent quite quick? I'd guess that it probably works at a similar speed to the bluetooth connection.

I will probably use bluetooth when I get my SX1, so I can use that to do the obex push to the V525 ... will be a lot easier.

file transfer speed is reasonably quick, probably about 5 seconds for a pic taken with my k700i. the java game transferred in about 6 - 8 seconds, it's not as if i'm sitting there waiting for ages .

i've got a BT dongle in the mail - i don't like using line of sight for IR, plus with a BT dongle i can transfer files directly from my desktop and not just my laptop.
