Goodbye MPX220....

After 8 days of use I have returned my mpx220 and have gone back to the V551. I'm going to miss the ability to sync with Outlook, have notes on my phone (via smartphone notes). I will NOT miss the less than one day of battery useage (no more than 30 minutes of talk time daily, yes, bluetooth was off) and the just awfull reception I was gettiing (the difference between the MPX220 and the V551 is unreal - 1 bar at the house with the mpx220; 3 to 4 bars on the 551.

Those of you still considering the MPX220, the good news is the volume is very loud with the 1.3 update. I would of tried another MPX220 but the corporate store I deal with did not have another in stock and I wasn't that interested in trying another one.

Now if I could find a SX66 here in Seattle, that would be a diferent story.

hm... i get GREAT reception compared to other phones that i have used, and i get almost 2 days worth of battery with about an hr or so a day. I agree that 1.3 is definantly the firmware to have and has made all the difference, if the camera was as good as you would think it should be, and ms would give you bt voice dialing then this woudl be one of the "best" clamshell smartphones ever made thus far.

Buy a copy of Motorola Mobile Phonetools and you can sync your v551 with Outlook and keep all your contacts and calendar on the phone.

Hmm... I have had the mpx220 in both .325 and 1.3 and always get better talk time than 30mins even with bluetooth on. Anyways the v551 is a great phone, and has alot less bugs too.

I totally understand where you are coming from.

I went through literally 12-14 mpx 220's before I came to peace with the one I have now. Yes, it is 1.3 and no, the volume isn't much improved....

Here's what I notice...
-startup and shutdown volume is much louder
-ringer is no louder and in my opinion not acceptable
-earpiece is a fraction louder but substandard for a phone over $25.00
-not a great camera for this high-end phone but workable
-battery lasts forever... i've used mine 7 days straight for about 2-3 hours per day with no need to recharge. I completely drain the battery before I use the phone regularly, charge, drain, charge then use
-bluetooth works great
-OS is a blessing and a curse (hello Mr. Gates)... very non-intuitive if you ask me but does allow you to perform some really cool tricks

talk time of half an hour can kiss my a**.

Looks like everyone is pretty much for the MPX, except for the thread starter. Any other problems with it?

I made it easier on myself. I own both the MPx220 and V551. the V551 sits in my car with the calls forwarded to my MPx220 (work line to my personal line). I get a good amount of talk time out of my MPx220 but then again I put it in flight mode at work (company policy) so I don't drain the battery. But I use an HS810 BT headset and talk a good amount on the drive to and from work and still have excellent battery life left. Maybe its the signal in your area.
