I went to a cingular store today for a possible purchase of an mpx 220 and the sales rep told me not to buy it because there was going to be an os update in about a month, has anyone heard of this ?
If ther is a os update and you already own the phone can you update it ?

Just as an aside, the cingular stores here sell the phone for atleast $100 more than BB or the mom and pops, why is that ?
Why would I spend $100 more to buy from Cingular direct ? The sales rep told me to go to BB if I insist on buying now !

that would be sweet, can't wait for a loud update! i heard about 1.7 or 1.9 as the next update but no info about it.

He was not talking about a firmware update but and update to the windows operating system.

mpx-220 already has Windows 2003. could the update possibly be Windows 2003 SE?

Posted by: paul34

I thought it had SE?

He was probably talking about 1.9.

And you should be able to do a XBM (exchange-by-mail) to get an updated version if you already own the phone and its still under warranty.

im getting a mpx-220 but its .325. i dont have cingular so i dunno what ill do unless mpxzone.com releases that firmware and update tool.

I wonder if the new release will include Media Player 10, so you can copy DRM protected music files to the phone. Anybody know?

If you're getting it from an authorized retailer you could probably get a warranty exchange done.

At my Best Buy it is I think $350 plus a $150 upcharge if you dont get a new contract. That makes it about $100 more than at Cingular. So are you saying your Best Buy has it no contract for $300?

Posted by: stream

Best Buy has it for $199 w/ a 2 year contract, plus you get a $50 gift card. The phone w/o contract is $349.

Can we not just do a firmware update on the phone?

Would this have any effect on the volume issues?

My (blue) MPx220 is running SE.

As for WMP 10 - The word I am getting from my contacts is that this version of the MPx220 (I think an EDGE version is coming out later next year?) will never get WMP 10. I hope my contacts are wrong.

When I went to activate my phone I could not put the Media plan on my phone and I had to call customer service to find out why. They told me I can add the service after I actived the phone and the reason for the hold is because of the new edge service that is comming soon. They said that my phone is enabled for it and I will be able to take advantage of the new system when it comes out.

I guess it will be just a download for us that have the current software. I had no idea what egde was before I was told about it with customer service.

I hope you're right. That would be pretty sweet, except for I live in BFE. We'll be one of the last areas to get EDGE. Of course, I could use it when I travel to larger metro areas...

What is this EDGE that everyone keeps mentioning. Also, does anyone know if the new os or fw will fix the voice dial through bluetooth problem (my biggest qualm with the phone).

The BT problem is a problem with the BT stack, which is part of the actual OS. So it's up to MS to fix this issue, and as far as whether a fix is included in fw 1.9, no it's not unfortunately.

EDGE is a faster version of GPRS. In practice you can get speeds of around 100-150 kbps whereas on GPRS you'll get about 30-45 kbps (from my experience).

For me that 30-45 is just great. I had nextel with the huge speed of 9K. I would just like the speeker to be a little more clear and that is it. Past that I do not have a coplaint about the phone.

Thanks for the info about EDGE. Sounds good to me.

Also, about the BT voice dial thing. Isnt there a way some intrepid developer could simply make a patch/application to have the button on a bluetooth headset launch a program (i.e., the voice dial program). Currently it seems just tapping the button does nothing, only holding it down does. Just currious if this is an option. Anyone who could could probably make some good cash since we all spent around 200-300 if not more on the phone any would presumably spend a few extra bucks to have it do that.
