Originally posted by Kid1972 2 problems with this method of java... 1. The software isn't legal to be installed on the MPx220. I'm pretty sure it's the software for the Mitac Mio. 2. What you are doing is installing your own seperate JAVA software and completely ignoring the software already on the MPx220 (which is WAY better). This is the reason you have to open your own program to run the game. It's much easier to create a small webpage and download them to the phone that way. I've done it since I have been using java enabled phones and it's not a big hassle. It also allows me to use the software on the phone instead of an old and buggy illegal copy. -Mc |

Originally posted by Kid1972 Why is it illegal? Are you serious? How much did you pay for it? Did it come with your phone? It's the same reason that using someone else's copy of Windows XP on your PC for free is illegal. That software is licensed for use on the Mitacs only. Mitac pulled the software off their support site because people were installing it on older Smartphones when there was no JAVA software available. Like I said before, it's not as good as the JAVA software on the MPx220 anyway. Not a good tradeoff just to install your own stuff when there are better ways to do it. -Mc |

Originally posted by Kid1972 Hey, don't lump me in with your hoodlum friends! Seriously, I don't download MP3's. If I like it, I buy it. And Windows XP comes on every new PC. Why would you *HAVE* to steal it? And as far as the illegal JAVA software, we're trying to discourage the promotion of illegal software on the forums because if we don't, then we ENCOURAGE those companies who own the rights to them to start suing the forum owners. Doesn't anyone get that?!?!? He may not get caught, but the forums could get shut down because some NewB just can't take a hint. AND... Like I previously stated, the Mitac version BLOWS in comparison to the one on the MPx220. Trust me, we're working on a solution to installing JAVA Apps yourself. And once I drop my ISP, I will need to find a solution real quick because I will no longer have a website to use to upload and download from. |

Originally posted by Kid1972 What are you talking about? The JAVA on the MPx220 is on the ROM and 100% legal. And if you're suggesting that I'm doing something illegal with my MPx220, what are you talking about? I understoon about 5% of what you said with some sort of clarity. Right now, I upload JAVA files to my own website and download them with my phone. When I lose my website, I'm either going to write an app to install it for me (which edits the reg and copies the files to the appropriate directory - which I've gotten to work with minimal success) or to be able to copy the stuff to the phone and create either a webpage on my own network which I can browse to or on the phone itself. All ways are legal and use no copyrighted software I don't legally own. What you are suggesting that people do is illegal. While you haven't provided a link to it, you're still suggesting that people download illegal software and install it on their phone. I don't condone piracy and I know the forum/moderators don't. From your first post: These files are licensed to Mitac Mio 8380 phone owners only. Since the files and info in the files are in Chinese, I'm fairly confident that you didn't obtain these legally. Otherwise, they'd be in English at least. And remember your second post, doesn't sound legal to me... And like I said, don't bother with them. They suck compared to Motorola's JAVA software which comes on the MPx220. Why waste precious RAM with redundant software? I will have a solution so everyone can install their own apps soon. I'm working on it. ...and it's legal. |
