Verizon Wireless Feature & Service Codes

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: aaronhurd

Does anyone have a complete list of all of Verizon's # and * codes . . . with explanations of what these codes do. I know that there are codes to check your minute usage, turn on or off follow-me-roaming, caller ID, etc . . . and people occasionally mention this in threads . . . but having a complete list would be nice. So, does anyone? :-)

#txt (#646) to check min usage
*vm (*86) to access VM

I'll have the whole list tomorrow

Posted by: rattrap

posting the list of codes will be great, DwnRtPnoy. thanks in advance.

Posted by: apollosmith

These are all the ones I could find. These all work on the VOX 8600 and may or may not work on your phone/provider. I'm working on a Web page for the 8600 that will have all the hacks, tons of tips, and other cool stuff on it. I'll post it in a day or two as soon as my cable gets here and I can try a few other things.

Dial these number then press SEND:
*611 - Call Verizon customer service. I've nearly worn these keys off my phone. ;-)

411 - Information. You can actually get all sorts of cool things (restaurant listing, movie listings, etc.) from these guys, though they give you the wrong phone number about half the time. It costs $1.25 plus airptime for each call.

#MIN or #646 - Stay on the line a few seconds to receive a text message displaying last bill date and total, total peak minutes, total offpeak/night minutes, total weekend minutes, total peak mobile2mobile minutes, and total offpeak mobile2mobile minutes. No more checking my balance online. Remember, incoming text messages cost $.02 each (unless you have a text messaging plan).

#BAL or #225 - Same as above.

#VG or #84 - Voice Gear. A pay service that allows you to dial numbers and access information (stock quotes, sports scores, directory assistance, etc.) with your voice.

*VM or *86 - access voice mail. Press # during your greeting, then follow the prompts. Airtime charges apply.

*228 - Select option 1 to update/program your phone. I don't think this really does anything. It does NOT update your phones firmware. Select option to to update your preferred roaming list (PRL). This tells your phone which wireless systems to use and which ones not to use. Update this every few months, especially if you travel - it may save you a lot in roaming charges if your phone is using someone elses network when a new Verizon tower is in the area. Your phone will automatically reset when it is done.

*67 +10 digit number - Disable caller id for your call. The party you're calling will see 'Unavailable' instead of your number.

*72 + 10 digit number - Start call forwarding. Calls will be forwarded to the number you enter if you do not answer after 2 or 3 rings or if you are currently using the phone.

*73 - End call forwarding.

#7623 or #ROAD- Roadside assistance. I'm not sure what they do, but I'm sure it will cost you.

****************************
Dial these numbers then press END (not SEND):

##1111 - fades out the screen. Not quite sure what it is supposed to do. Press END to get back to normal.

##2773 - field test mode.
Rx = Receive power measured in dB.
Tx = Send power measured in dB.
P_Rev Protocol Revision = 6 is 1x, 4 is regular CDMA.
Ec = A measure of how strong individual connections from the tower are compared to everything that the tower is transmitting. Compares the pilot signal to the overall level of traffic, but this is a good indicator of how your connection compares to the overall level of traffic from the tower. -3 dB to -8 dB is usually a “good” Ec. When Ec gets larger, like -10 dB or -15 dB phones will start having trouble maintaining their connections, even with full signal.
C = Channel. B side carriers start on 384. Will increase by 1.25MHz or 41 channels.

##20022002 - Be very careful! NAM programming menu. Under "Voice Option" you can also change your vocoder to 13K QCELP for a better sounding vocoder, but I'm not sure if Verizon supports it.

##2222 - display CDMA Automatic Gain Control and Low Noise Amplifier data

##2240 - S/W test. I don't know what any of this is, so be careful.

##2250 - RFNV Contents. Tons of options here. I have no idea what they do.

##2283 - Set the data port baud rate.

##7738 - Change P_Rev. Allows you to force CDMA (Select Rev 4)

##1122 - Test ringtone, vibrate, and colors. Adjust contrast and stuff.

##1133 - Be careful! Resets the phone back to factory settings.

##1144 - Change the length of the keypad tones. Navigation keys don't work here, use the numbers to change values.

##27752345 - Battery info and modification. Be careful!

##27732726 - Software tests and stuff. Displays the date/time of firmware. Lots of cool stuff in here.

2539** - Change authentication key. Be VERY careful!

If you are looking for automated information (news/weather/stocks/ect...) give Tell Me a try, it only uses airtime - no fees or subscription required. 1-800-555-TELL (8355)

They took their website down, but you can program 'Favorites' with them by saying "Add to my Favorites" when you're in a category that you want to add (i.e. favorite stocks, local weather, sports scores)

Hey, thanks for that number to tell me.

Varies by market.

In mine, it's *720.

For my market, call forwarding is severely broken. Last time, I spent 10 minutes on the phone with tech support trying to disable it. We eventually got there with *710 I believe.

We don't have a "highway patrol" in Virginia. We have State Police.

#77 goes to the dispatch at the closest manned station.

I forgot about the call forwarding.

How does that get charged on the bill ??
Is that a service you sign up for or is
there a fee every time you forward ??

Thx,

As posted by is_that_clear – "check your statement"

From Verizon Statement under “consumer information”:

Do you forward your wireless phone? Effective July 21, 2004, use these new
standardized codes: *72 - Immediate Call Forwarding, *71 - Conditional Call Forwarding
No Answer/Busy Transfer) and *73 - Cancel All Call Forwarding. Any other codes you
currently use will no longer work effective July 21. Airtime and long distance charges
apply. Not available everywhere.

Posted by: sknaf

Thx.

I do not get a paper bill, and my bill is auto-pay.
So I rarely go look at my bill, and almost
never go check the messages on the bill.

Does 5 minutes of forwarding talk time
mean 5 minute of usage? I am just thinking
this could be like a 3 way call, where the
rate bills at 2* the minutes.

Just wanted to hear from someone that uses this ...

- Scott

Posted by: timemender

Scott –
My post wasn’t directed specifically at your last post, before my post. (”check your statement”).

It was meant to clarify any misunderstandings others might still have about call forwarding codes.

I haven’t used call forwarding for a long time, so I can’t answer your question. I have never known it to be charged like a three way call in the distant past.

Someone else will have to verify the charges.

Posted by: absolutaddicted

Call fowarding billing is as your cell phone...for example, I live w/my family, so, I fwd my cell phone to my house phone. Whenever my VZW friends call, we both get billed M2M/InNetwork minutes, yet, I'm using my house phone, no PEAK minutes. I called CS to verify this b/c I thought this was too good to be true.

Posted by: uoods

I didn't find an answer to all the people asking what follow me roaming is, so here is what I understand it to be, though I think a google search would probably give you a more thorough explanation.

Follow me roaming is a feature that was created as a result of older cell phone tower technology. Basically, when you were roaming, if you called your own number (not *86) to check your voicemail the cellular switch would try and search for your handset to connect the call, but then would give you a busy signal or beep your phone with call waiting. Newer switches are smarter than this nowadays. However, back then, it was a way of carriers making roaming a more seamless operation to the end user.

Sticky this thread!

What's the point of forwarding your cell phone if you're charged airtime for it? There's no point in not using your cell...

Am I missing something?

1-so you don't have to find your cell phone in your house, you can leave it in the charger, fwd it to your house, and use your home phone for all your incomming cell calls.

For example, my friend who has VZW doesn't have the best service in her house...so, b4 she gets home, she fwd's her cell phone to her house...when I call her from my cell phone, all her calls get fwd to her house, and we both get charged M2M/InNetwork minutes, and she can use her house phone and not miss a call to her cell.

*228 is really ACT as in Activation. Verizon Wireless started out as Bell Atlantic Mobility, GTE Wireless, PrimeCo, Vodafone AirTouch. *228 is used for all CDMA carriers.

I've been looking for a comprehensive list of this stuff, most specifically NABT (No answer busy transfer) forwarding. I have seen and heard mixed ways to do this, none of which wrork in my market (Central IL) Does anyone know how to do it AND verified that it works? I've tried:
*71 + number
*90 + number (this was according to vzw tech support)
*72 + number
None of these work correctly *71 and *72 seem to be plain call forwarding.
According to this it should be *71. This would be VERY handy I think for more people than just me, and all the search function yielded was this link......any help appreciated.
Thanks!

Posted by: brad6360

here's a couple of more....

*350 turns on automatic call delivery
#TT(88) connects you to the network team to report a problem.

both of these are for the south area

Voice gear is similar to 800-555-TELL. You dial #VG (#84) to access voice gear. Voice mail is *VM (*86). The vioce mail system is not changing.

Hmm... Here in Atlanta, as of last weekend VZW uses *75 to activate busy/no answer CF and *76 to deactivate it; *71 is recognized by the switch (I get confirmation beeps) but does absolutely nothing. I guess that'll change on 7/21...

When you travel outside your home network, automatic call delivery will make sure your call gets transferred to the network you are roaming on.

"Call Delivery" will deliver calls outside of your local long distance area. Follow-me Roaming will deliver calls outside of you actual home airtime area.

In New York City, *JAM if you want information on traffic comdations. That call is routed to Metro Traffic.

*999 Is the cellular traffic emergency line, for the Chicagoland Area.

Posted by: dbman190

If you're roaming, calls don't ring on your cell unless you activate "automatic call delivery?"

I always thought they did (but haven't roamed in a while so I wouldn't know).

Posted by: Wizboy

311 is the non-emergency police request line in many areas.

Posted by: alanh

Follow-me roaming is generally unnecessary, as the phones now register automatically as you travel.

Posted by: rafki12

From what I've been told, follow me roaming is unecessary for most people.

Only needed for people still using older analog-only or early generation dual mode phones. These phones lacked capability of automatically being "seen" by the older networks.

Also, before Verizon was a national carrier, they were made up of many smaller providers, . These systems lacked the capability of always seeing roaming customers travelling in and out of their networks.

All newer trimode, or digital only phones sold by VZw in the last 2 years automatically "announce" their location without the need to do it manually.

It is. In New Jersey to report aggressive drivers, it's #77 for the NJ TurnPike and #GSP (477) on the ParkWay. #77 is pretty useful...they pulled over some ××× in a state car about 5 miles or so up from where I called it in.

On GSM phones, you can set all calls to go to voice mail immediately. I like to use that setting for a phone that I don't want to power off (my Blackberry, for example,) but I don't want to be bothered with calls either.

Is there a way to do that with Verizon? I have tried *72 xxx-xxx-xxxx (where the x's represent my own number,) but that doesn't work.

Follow me Roaming is a 'feature' that basically makes your phone work like NORMAL, when you're roaming. It doesn't matter too much, though, now that AC2 is out, since you won't 'roam' onto any unrecognized towers, like you used to be able to. NO, I'm not saying you could just randomly connect to any tower in the area with AC1, but I mean that all roaming partners on AC2 are worked out 'roaming partners' whose networks are fully compatible with those of VZW.

Personally, I've had my phone work fine when I roam, I get calls, etc... but sometimes when you spend a lot of time roaming (totally off of the VZW network), they lose track of your phone - which is why you need to activate "follow me roaming." Otherwise you'll be able to make calls, but not recieve them, because the system won't be able to locate your phone.

Follow Me Roaming is supposed to 'deactivate' automatically at midnight, everynight.

Quote:
I can place calls, but can't receive any.
One of the following may be the cause:
You're in a geographically challenged area, such as a valley or the basement of a building.
You have Call Restriction, which limits you to outgoing calls only.
You're roaming and your equipment isn't set correctly.
You may need to activate automatic call delivery (*350) or Follow Me Roaming (*18).
You forgot to deactivate Call Forwarding. Dial *611 (a free call from your wireless phone) to reach one of our customer service representatives. He or she can walk you through the settings for your phone.

Automatic Call Delivery / Follow Me Roaming will very likely incur roaming fees. Rate table can be found here:
http://mobileoptions.vzw.com/international/rates/a.html

Automatic call delivery and follow-me-roaming are features to let your home system know where you are at. I had a problem with receiving calls while in Ohio (on a VZW system), but enabling automatic call delivery fixed the problem.

Is *67 and than the number free? or does this service cost money?

Posted by: JenJen

*67 is free, but if you're calling someone else with VZW service it won't be an IN call for them. Caller ID must be unblocked for IN calling to work.

Posted by: mauricer1

if im callign someone on verizon, and i block caller ID, will it still be an IN NETWORK call for me?

For you, yes, but not for the person you're calling.

How do you guys figure out all those codes in your area? Like I see someone posted numbers to contact NBC and a number to report DUI's... I am tempted to just dial random codes to see what I find but that's a little to scary for me. I'm in Phoenix, Arizona by the way. Anyone know of any specific for my area?

You're in PHX and you use VZW? I've been visiting Scottsdale for nearly a week now (Troon North area) and VZW sucks. Never thought I'd say that as I've used it in many cities in this country and it's quite good in my hometown of NYC.

This is not true. Blocking your number only blocks the Caller ID information. Verizon still knows your MIN and the MIN of the person you are calling. CID blocking has nothing to do with IN.

This is bad information that is spread even by the customer service reps at VZW.

Actually it is true.

From VZW's website...

"National IN Calling
If Caller ID is not present or Caller ID Block is initiated, National IN Calling does not apply to incoming calls and will apply to outgoing calls only. National IN Calling is not available to customers whose wireless exchange restricts the delivery of Caller ID or with fixed wireless devices with usage substantially from a single cell site. National IN Calling does not apply if Call Forwarding or No Answer/Busy Transfer features are activated or to data usage, including Push to Talk calls, Picture Messaging or Video Messaging, calls to check your Voice Mail and calls to Verizon Wireless customers using Airfone® Service or any of the VZGlobal services. National IN Calling does not apply in those areas of Louisiana and Mississippi where your phone’s roaming indicator flashes."

I guess the website should say "If Caller ID is not present or Caller ID Block is initiated, National IN Calling does MAY not apply to incoming calls and will apply to outgoing calls only"

I have read over 10,000 bills and have seen MANY, MANY, MANY with incoming restricted calls that show they were counted as "IN". For the ones that weren't counted? We'll never know because the number isn't on the bill to check and see if it was "IN".

I'm in Glendale (I think that's what this area is called o_O) and so far I haven't noticed any problems with my VZW service at all. My roommate barely gets any signal at all in our house (she's on Nextel/Sprint), yet I get a pretty solid signal with Verizon's network even from within a tiny bathroom in the middle of the house... with like 5 walls/doors between me and outside. Maybe it's because I live near a mountain that might have a tower on there... no idea heh.

I don't notice much of a difference while in NYC either (that's where I got the phone in the first place heh). I just think Verizon sucks because *nothing* is ever free with them.. bleh.

Posted by: tvith

Not sure if anyone stated this but... instead of using 411, dial 800-free-411 (800-3733-411) it actually tells u the call is free... although i haven't really used it, i can't say wether it's a fake or not. I just learned of it a few days ago, called it, and it did say the service is free of charge, but i called from my office and not the cellphone so idk if they charge extra like 411 does.

IIRC that has to do with roam call delivery. I wouldn't worry about it though.

Is that something we should be updating on a monthly basis too?

Posted by: Vatothe0

Not something you ever need to update or change. It's a feature code left over from days before there was automatic call delivery. It was a feature you had to activate so you could recieve calls when you were out of your home area. If you look on your bill "call delivery" is still listed as a feature.

5.*900
6.*920

and none of them worked...I haven't tried 73# yet, but I don't suppose anyone in the 919 area code might have any other suggestions?

what does service requiredd on a phone mean?????

It means exactly what it says... the phone is in need of servicing

Either the phone got wet, or there is a software problem. Take it to your nearest Verizon Wireless corporate store (with a tech department) and they can take a look at it for you.

Also for the codes, *67 will also cause you to get charged normal airtime for In Calling calls

And, some more for ya...sorry if posted already, but only read the first page of this topic.

*729 no longer is used with prepay for adding funds, use *611 and go through the automated system there.

*228 Option 1 does send updates to your phone if they are available, like with the Prepay PN-215 which had a firmware update on 5/05/2007. It also programs your phone number into the phone as well as the features and tower locations.

#728 to manage your Ring Back Tones.

Although it was noted that *67 isn't verizon specific, is there an opposite of it. Our phones default to showing private and I have issues every now and then with others not accepting calls from a private number so if there was a code to allow the my number to show up I could put it in the front of the phone book entry for that person.

If your phone is defaulted to blocking caller ID I would check your minutes as well, as the billing system checks the caller ID to determine if you both are VZW customers to determine In Calling.

Also in the phone menu there should be a setting for the caller ID to always show.

Posted by: leesweet

How do you *force* incoming calls to go direct to voice mail? There has to be a code for it, but I can't see it in these lists.

Example: If you are using Access Manager (using the phone/PDA as a modem), you want voice calls to be blocked, or, better, dumped to voice mail. In the past I have used another phone (I have a RAZR, too) and forwarded calls to it. But, there has to be a way for the normal VZ Access Manager user (with one cell phone) to be able to use the phone as a modem and not have to forward the phone to a landline.

VzW Tech Support gave me *7650/*765 for 'forward to VM'/disable but it doesn't seem to do anything except take the string.

(Other Treo's have a check box for 'Don't let voice calls interrupt data calls.' but not Verizon's 'modified' GUI, of course.)

Posted by: tlarseth

use *76 before the number, it is a universal for ignoring voice calls while online, and it sends then straight to Voice Mail

Posted by: leesweet

What number? Your own? So, enter *76 and the number of the phone you're on?
Seems sort of redundant (why not just a code?), but, okay, I'll try that. I wonder what the VzW tech thought he was reading...

Thanks!

Posted by: leesweet

BTW, doesn't work, with either *76 or *76-cell phone's number. Get 'Your number can't be completed as dialed'.

Anyone else? There really has to be a way to do this, especially when they take way the inherent 'Don't let voice calls interrupt data calls' Treo functionality.

If the previous poster meant 'use *76 before the number when using the modem', I'm using vZw's Access Manager. I have no way (I know of) of inserting characters into the number it calls to use the data connection as a modem (if that terminology is correct).

The VzW tech suggested something along the same lines until I reminded him it was *their* software I was using: Put *70 in there. But again, it's a data call I want no voice interruptions of, and I can't access the dialing string, AFAIK.

Posted by: chimpsnest

FYI, not sure if it's been posted or not, but *1 in the Boston area will get you "smart traveler' traffic information. Once in it will tell you to enter a route number followed by the * (star) key. Then, sometimes if the road is long it'll be broken up into segments.

ie, press 93* for route 93, then it'll tell you to press 931* for the road between Boston and NH press 931*, or for 93 south between Boston and Braintree it'll say enter 932*. Or, if you know what you're looking for you can just go right into pressing 931* (or whatever) to bypass all the menu stuff.

Hope that helps.

Posted by: leesweet

Just spent 30 minutes with VzW tech support and customer service since tech support couldn't answer it. According to them, there is NO way to cause a phone's inbound calls to go directly to Voice Mail. (Well, except (1) turning it off and (2) calling support and having them set 'Voice Mail rings=0.)

So, if there is really is no way to 'feature code' this, what's the point of Access Manager (the modem software)? I'll post this in the Data sub-forum, but this makes that product useless, since any incoming call while connected to any VPN or other encryption software drop its session.

I just learned of it a few days ago, called it, and it did say the service is free of charge, but i called from my office and not the cellphone so idk if they charge extra like 411 does.

1-800 GOOG-411 (1-800-4664-411) http://labs.google.com/goog411/ Is another "free" 411 service.

Both are "free" as in they don't cost $1.49 per use. They just use your normal airtime minutes, or none if its after 9 PM or on weekends. They also both have the option of sending you a text message with the name address and phone number (which costs if you don't have a plan of course).

You can even send a text message to GOOGLE (466453) with your search term in the body and they will send results. http://www.google.com/mobile/sms/index.html

Thank you for this. Is there any way to include the *82 in my phonebook (I have a Moto v9m) so that when I make calls from the phonebook to friends and family, my ID isn't blocked?

Does anyone know all the * dial codes for Verizon?

This'll be a fun thread. I think there's quite a lot of these.
So, I saw these a few days ago (off VZW's web site)

Quote:
Deactivate CPOP: Dial *7650 (Prevents Voice Call from interrupting Data Session)

Reactivate CPOP: Dial *765 (Allows Voice Call to Interrupt Data Session)

So if you're tethering with a phone, *765 is default and lets yours phone ring, the data session pauses if you answer, and resumes when you hang up. *7650 I think your calls just go straight to voice mail if you're in a data session.

Oh, and of course *228. "Option 2" updates your roaming list (this doesn't add individual cell sites, just whole network sections by SID and NID). Option 1 does the PRL plus some other stuff. *22899 duplicates *228 option 1. *22800 and *22801 force the phone onto cellular A and cellular B band, and *22802 through *22807 do PCS A-F dialing straight into *228 on that band. If your phone gets programmed for the completely wrong carrier somehow (US Cellular, Alltel, and Verizon all use 000000 for the phone's lock code, so this could happen I guess) you can manually dial the right band for your area and program it with these.

*86 (*VM) dials voicemail.

Great information here. You are right this will be fun to watch. I think though some markets use different codes for things.
