I was thinking to buy a whole new housing faceplate for my slider but I went to the link that has a "how to" on dissasembling the phone and it looked a little difficult to me.I was wondering if anyone has changed their housing themselves or just got it done at a shop. This would be a first time for me even opening up a cell phone so im kind of skeptical on what I should do.Is it easy to do...even for a first timer?Should I take it to a shop that does this, if so what shop t-mobile etc.?Any advice or help is appreciated.pz

some people have a lot of trouble handling small electronics or little screws and things...but it's mostly fear-based.

you will eventually save money as well as gain a better understanding of your phone and its assembly. it will help you understand why (for example) 6 months from now maybe your phone randomly turns off (could it have been that contact in the battery? you ask yourself)..see what i'm saying?
allowing other people to do what you yourself can do with just a bit of care and calm will only leave you in ignorance of not only your phone but of your capabilities

some will warn you not to try, but i never underestimate a person's capacity to do it themselves.

ps get a T6 screwdriver at home depot, and a "precision" screwdriver set of little phillips/flatheads...good luck!

weigh the pro's and cons. do you really really want to change the casing? if so, do you think it's worth having someone do it for a price? or do you think it might be much better if you do it yourself with as much caution as you like?

I personally don't mind the silver case the phone came as. but if I were to buy one (or realgt could make me a sek c case) I'd probably want to do it myself so i could see exactly how they designed the phone and how it works. it'd be kinda cool.

I did my own faceplate with no prior experience ever taking apart a phone. It's pretty easy, just treat everything as if it were made of eggshells, and take your time. I had no choice to change mine, the LCD cover was scratched up and I could barely read the screen. I think I spent about 45 minutes on it, total. You will need a T6 torx driver.

After a while you'll get used to it, too. i can take apart and rebuild a slider in less than 3 minutes.

/waiting for oohs and ahhs hehehe

I've replaced the housing on my SE47 several times. It's a piece of cake. And I'll note one thing to do if you're doing this: Take a small hot-glue gun and glue the ribbon-cable coming off the main screen to its circuit board. This tends to come loose if the SE47 is dropped. Just a dab'll do ya!

Hmmmm. I do several a week, and I have a hard time buying three minutes. For a complete transfer? Keypad, buttons, and boards?

I'd have to see video evidence. Preferably in .3gpp format for my SE.

(If it's true, I'm duly impressed.)

I think im actually going to try this out now that i see some first timers actually try this themselves...im going to order a housing kit right now ill get back to you guys in a couple of days and let you know how it goes

yeah, me and my brother were kinda bored last week he timed me. i got used to it, i work on electronics for a living...can't say i don't leave a few scratches when i rush it hehe

i take the longest just trying to get that cable lift/door open on these suckers dont wanna tear the cable...again.

Check out this thread for Slider housing experiences, problems, advice, etc. We've asked for it to be sticky'd but for some reason it isn't.

I have a question about changing the face plate on my slider. I have been reading all the posts about how to do it and how much trouble people are having. I bought just the face plate, not the whole housing. Is it the same to just put a new face plate on as opposed to replacing the whole housing? Do you have to take all that stuff apart? Thanx
