Anyone got more information about this phone? Here is a link I found in Panasonic Chinese website

http://www.panasonic.com.cn/life/ac...x800/index.html

Posted by: lost_rebel

Suppose to release in Feb. Realistically probably March. Same feature set as X700 but has an active mechanical flip (spring loaded) thinner, lighter but taller with an internal ant.

Looks good to me.

1.3MP???
MP3 Player???

Who knows this may be my next cell phone

The feature set is identical to X700. I believe the website is in error about the 1.3 MP camera. I do not believe that the version of symbian being run will support it. Same with MP3 support indiginous. I will see what I can dig up further on this but information is hard to come by at the moment as no formal launch date has been published by the big carriers.

I agree but a man can dream

Go Sooners!!!

The only way to support MPixel camera is to use the Symbian version Nokia 7610 uses... or a later one.

So if you ask ... whoever you ask don't forget to talk about the operating system's version... If it is identical to what 7610 has... then we have MPixel camera. If not... we have VGA...

I think I am converting to Panasonic. I have no Cell phone (long story) and it is all the self-control I can muster to not get the X700. Maybe I can stay strong for the X800.

I just keep telling myself it is only a foot ball game and we did only louse one game all season long.. But it is not helping. Congratulations to all the Trojan fans out there.

who knows, maybe the 1.3 mp is achieved by interpolation (sorry for the spelling error, didn't bother to spell check it), which wouldn't be a surprise to me, coz it's using a CMOS camera according to www.ringhk.com. Pretty much the same phone as X700, but I really like the look of it, this might just be the phone that will replace my 6230 (which i love). I'm just wondering how the battery life would be, because I had a X70 and the battery life of it is just horrible for me, can barely last me a day, mainly coz i do a lot of sms. I wonder how's the battery life of this, coz I really like everything about my 6230, but the look of this phone is just too appealing.

Posted by: BBGundam

i think it supports MP3, and you can use the miniSD to save the song and use it as MP3 player......

Time to sell my X700.......

X800 Live Photos

Posted by: bryankia

Yeah that does look nice. I wonder what the price on that is going to be?

Thanks,
Bryan

Probably very similar to X700. The X800 is a direct hardware variant of X700. There is no stereo on the headset, nor an built in MP3 player. NO mp camera. Just int. Ant., mech. active flip and slimer yet taller.
I would like to get it with a brushed alum. looking case. But the standard plastics are BUTT UGLY

Hardware X700 allowed developers to make this smart with a stereo an output, MP3, EDGE, and to add the fourth range (there is no filter on 850 MHz)

its pretty nice. but x700 just came out, imagine how logn we gota wait for this phone

Posted by: Takumi_Inui

Add a 262k TFT colour screen and a 1.3MP camera and you got a deal.

Ummm... that's kind of wrong. The version of Symbian has no direct relationship to how many pixels the camera can support.

For example, Mitsubishi are releasing a camera in Japan based on SymbianOS v6.1. It has a 2MP camera.

The 7610, X700 and X800 all run the same version of SymbianOS - v7.0s. There's no technical reason why the X800 couldn't have a 1MP+ camera.

Posted by: lost_rebel

It also is running the same version of the S60 OS.

more pictures of x800.

now i'm glad i didn't get x700, x800 looks waaaaay better imho.

its so cool, its got a button for the flip! like you just press it and it opens! how cool is that

To Red. NO MP3 provided by Pana. NO stereo headset and NO MP camera. Sorry, aint there.

To Bronco, just another piece to break. I am as much a gadget guy as the next, but I know that all Pana flips are designed to be opened one handed, so this is not something that provides one little thing to help. By the way, unless there is a different build of software, you will not be able to set the sort of the phonebook by first, last name or get caller ID working unless you have 11 digit phone numbers in the phone book. Function of the Chinese software.
Enjoy!

I know it! I looked Service Manual for X700. Therefore also has made such conclusions.

If to trust the Chinese sources Panasonic prepares X600 for a series which will have 2Mp the chamber and TFT the display from more one million colors.

Doesn't have to be 11 digits phone number, 10 digits is fine. I am using the Hong Kong version of X700, which I bought it in Hong Kong myself so it is a Chinese version.

Is it possible to explain this:

" Hardware X700 allowed developers to make this smart with a stereo an output, MP3, EDGE, and to add the fourth range (there is no filter on 850 MHz)"

Are you saying with a software upgrade, we could buy a 900/1800/1900 version, and then add the 850? That would make this phone super appealing to me!

Thanks!

Besides substitute SoftWare, it is necessary to still substitute HARDWARE filter 900 MHz on 850 MHz, but this unreally, since developers this did not consider with the development of this telephone.

I think he is trying to say that Symbian and S60 support 850MHz, MP3 and MP cameras, but Panasonic decided not to pursue those options at this time. So in short, the limitations are in the phone, not the OS and applications engines.
Much like Windows would not limit your ability to play Doom3, but your CPU, Memory, Video card and HD space would. But unlike a computer, you can not simply buy components to upgrade, you have to get an entirely new phone. At present, Panasonic seems to have no interest in selling in the United States, so do not expect to see 850MHz in the near future...What this means is if you use Cingular, do not buy this phone. If you use Tmobile, it currently does not matter. They only have 1900 MHz PCS spectrum.
As for MP3, X700 does not have digital rights management hardware, until Pana decides to put this hardware in, there will be no OEM support for MP3s. Maybe next time around?? I would expect to see a MP camera on the next phone past X800. Someone posted a link to Panasonic making 3MP camera modules for mobile phones. I would guess that is a likely candidate for the next phone past X800.
Cheers

Cingular in CA/NV uses only 1900, so they could use this phone without any problems. There are very few areas that are 850 only. Most all the network as 850/1900, especially since they are using the ATTWS network as well which is completely 1900 with 850 overlay in markets that have 850 licences.

Posted by: lost_rebel

expect the 1900 spectrum to start to disappear next year as cingular starts to roll out UMTS. While Ca may be 1900 along with NC/SC the rest of the country is predominantly 850mhz without the at&t spectrum. Like where I live, there is no Cingular 1900, no AT&T, the phone is a paper weight if I were a Cingular subscriber. But hey, purchase with your eyes open.

Actually they are planning on using 850 for their HSDPA network.

I was replying to your statement about 1900 disappearing for UMTS.

FCC approves the X800

Link: http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=1075

This indicates that it's quite similar to the X700 since it's been approved so quickly after it's announcement. It's coming boys and girls!

Posted by: vasu

I wonder how much more it'll be ...

I really like the X700 because it's a smart phone and a flip phone and isn't running windows and has uncripled bluetooth, and I see many on ebay for $350 or less.

But the X800 looks so hot, that's the one i want but i'll probably have to wait months and pay nearly $500 or something

-vasu

Posted by: schmoe

Yeah, $350 seems like a fabulous deal for this phone, I just picked one up from no-air-time on ebay. Paid more for the POS v600, just hope the quality of the x700 is up to par. Going to make a pact never to buy another non-Japanese phone again, regret it every time.

Posted by: vasu

anyone have any idea on what pricing might like for this slimming down of the X700?

I know availability with Panasonic phones is hard to nail down. The X700 goes for $350USD, anyone think the X800 will go for, $400-$500 USD or more?
