audacity or nero wave editor

I use a program called AIMone that you can find at www.download.com. Extremely easy to use.

Using Audacity, heres a quick howto:

The sample rate needs to be set at 16000 @ 32bit mono. Audacity will let you change this from a stereo mp3 file. Import the mp3, set the project rate to 16000 ( from 44100 that is defalt) and choose "Quick Mix". This will blend both left and right channels together. Select the left channel and change it to mono. Delet the right channel. Edit the song to about 30sec. , this will keep the file size at between 76k to 108k when saved in mp3 format. Also pay attention to the level, when playing it. If it is to loud, reduce the out put level to -6db and resave it. Change the .mp3 to .mid and there you go. You are now ready to load your new ringtone to your phone.

i did all of the above, but how do i convert it to .mid? can i use this with audacity? or do i need a diff program?
(sorry, my previous phone was a motorola and i just put the mp3 files straight onto it. i'm new to the MIDI stuff)

i appreciate the help!

I set my preferences to be 16000 for the rate, but when I import an mp3, it says its still 44000, even after 'quick mixing' it.

My files size is ok, even at 44000, but I figure I can probably fit more mp3 ringers on the phone if i can get this default thing working....

How in Audacity are you setting the default rate? And how exactly to you 'quick mix' an mp3 to fall into that rate?

If I change the rate after importing it slows the audio way down and sounds ridiculous...

Ok guys here we go>

Load the mp3 in. It would be easier for you to edit the song to you 30sec. segment you want as your ringer first. Then, on the bottom left you see the deault Project rate of ( 44100) click on it and select 16000. Now up top go under PROJECT/ Quick Mix . Both channels will now be blended and changed to the 16000 rate. Then you can finish the rest with no more problems.
When the song plays realy SLOWWW, you have only change the current play rate at that moment and not the actual file you are making.

Posted by: 3dmac

NOS, PM me with exactly what you are doing. 400k file looks like you still have the sample rate set at 44100hz(way to high quality for what the phones little speaker can probuce. A waste of file space)

I bought a nice program to put everything on the phone but it won’t convert files.
So can anyone help me?

I also have an lg 5450 it only takes midi files as ring tones and I need to know how to convert mp3's to midi files.

Posted by: 3dmac

suderman,
All you need to do is change the file extention from (.mp3) to (.mid).
For windows, you need to go into prefs. and click on "show file extensions " tab for them to show on your desktop. Then just highlight the extention and retype it to .mid and save it. Thats it !
Remember that you need to keep the file sizes down around 100k-180k or so in order to save availible memory or the phone will freek out

I can’t find prefs. Or file extensions on windows xp home to convert the file to midi.

I have downloaded Audacity and pick an mp3 to convert. I highlighted the clip I wanted to convert, next I changed to project rate to 16000 and hit the quickmix setting. I went to save it and it came up save under *.aup. How can I save it as a .mid file?????

Posted by: 3dmac

suderman: control panels/folder options/view, uncheck "Hide file extentions ..."
and hit apply. Now all your files will show their file extentions so you
can edit them.

TJ: You need to ALSO download the LAMELIB mp3 file helper (also on the site) in order to save as mp3's. After saving, change the extention ".mp3" to ".mid"
Then your ready to load it to the phone.

Also looking at the newest ver. of BITPIM, I believe it converts know.

*wut i found out when converting:

a bitrate 32 and freq. at 24000 will sound pretty good and will be around 70-100kb

br-24, freq-24 sounds pretty much the same as the 32, but less size.

br-16, freq-16. decent...worst out of all, but around 40-70kb each
