can you use BitPIM or something else to backup and save Text Mesages prior to erasing them all? I need the space, but want to save them as evidence.

if you have the pst and perform a backup under software download, being sure to include EFS files, it will save your phone's text messages as well as other settings such as contacts, midi ringers, etc. to a QCN file from which you can perform backups in the future
or save the text message db file off your phone, though i forget the name of it

yeah, I read that actually. got the PST. the issue is I use a Radio Shack cable talked about elsewhere on this site and BitPim and have no problems, but the PST will not see my phone on Com5 that everything else sees. any reason why? I have strated up with BitPim first to make the connection and then tried to talk to the phone with the PST, but it will not see it.

ok i see, why not just change your com port to a lower number though, like COM2 or COM3?

did that, but the PST will still not see it.

okay - so I did this!!!! got it to work. can I now know for sure that the TXT messages are saved and I can erase them off my phone but still have the backup on my computer if I need them? you are SURE of this that TXT messages are part of what is saved?

try sending a test message to your phone, do a backup, then delete the test message , then restore your backup and see if the message comes back

sure enough:

- I backed it up
- sent a text message
- then made sure it was received by phone
- then used the PST to Restore my backup

I found that the new text message was NOT in the InBox as the PST restored the last state I saved prior to me sending the message and receiving it on my phone.

way to go...at least now you have your "evidence" lol
