our 7520 users are reporting "Error - Unknown error"

We've been receiving reports lately from Nextel BB 7520 users of our WebViewer application that the application works for a while, and then mysteriously starts reporting "Error - Unknown error" when attempting to make a network connection.

We've seen this error before, reported by 7510 users, and had found that it was due to the handset's wireless not being active. Worst case was that the user required a soft reset of the device to be up and running again.

But this is not the case with 7520 users. Nothing short of reinstalling the software resolves the issue. Obviously, this workaround is far from ideal.

Has anyone else come across this problem when attempting to open a network connection on the 7520, and if so, any resolution?

We'd be more than happy to give out a few complimentary registration keys to our applications for any assistance, no matter how minor, in resolving this issue.

First of all, I gotta say I love your guys' software! Thanks for a great product

I had this error occur just once, but I shut down the software and started it up again and it seemed to work fine.

There is another issue some of us were wondering about that we weren't sure if it was related to Webviewer or what though. Some of us have noticed that if you go through multiple pages quickly (thats when I had these issues, clicking links before the page fully loads and all), and then when you exit out of the program, the wireless appears to be transmitting and receiving data like you never closed the connection. When this occurred, you couldn't receive calls or direct connect calls at all (data was fine though). I had this last for over half an hour once. I tried a reset to no avail the last time it happened. I ended up fixing this problem by going back in to rewireless (which appeared to work fine), letting a page fully load, and then exiting out using "Close". Any ideas as to what this might be? The thread on this issue was titled "Alright, now this is a problem (7520)" or something similar.

As a heavy Reqwireless user, I am ALL ears waiting for any information.

Not had any problems but I make sure and use the "close" feature when I am done, but would like to make sure there are no problems.

Martin, the thread you pointed to kinda scared me, but it seemed to die and I would thing that it would be going strong if lots of people were having this problem.

Waht ever it is, I hope they work out how to stop it from happening.

I had this problem start Dec 27. I noticed that anytime i tryed to use reqwireless or NOL broswer going to a site usin HTML it was a no go but the WAP worked fine. So I called NOL, and over the course of a week had my IP address changed 3 times, unloaded and reinstall reqwireless 4 times, attempted to tell teir 1,2,3 and help personel at NOL it was something on their side and just finally gave up. On Jan 3 I was able to use reqwireless again along with NOL HTML sites. So thta lets me say that nextel was doing something with their servers and doing them at different times so their CS does not get over run. I will say when I spoke with teir 3 that the problem I was having they had been dealing with alot of other BB users stating the same. anyway glad its working and Yes REQWIRELESS IS THE BEST

I've experienced that problem a few times since I got my 7520 a couple of weeks ago. I installed both VeriChat and Webviewer and after a few days got "Error Unknown". After trying to restart the BB it still didn't resolve the error. I found that I only needed to un-install VeriChat to get WebViewer working again. I did call Nextel support about this, but of course they said it wasn't their problem and they don't support third-party applications.

I am using a registered copy of WebViewer. I'd like to use VeriChat too so I hope this issue is resolved.

Thanks.

I would be more than happy to assist you guys in trying to fix the "data lock up error" with Webviewer 4.0.
I recently got a BB 7520 with Nextel and installed the trial of WebViewer. I was able to get the phone to lock in to data mode twice in 10 days (trial). I was not a heavy user (abit the 10 page per day limit) . Both times I believe the error occured because I exited the program with the 'Escape key" during the page loading. The first time I was able to get the phone back to a usable state (making and receiving phone calls and DC) by turning off then on the wireless and pulling the battery. The second time I had to let it sit overnight to reset the connection.

Neither time did I have to uninstall the WebViewer software.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7520/4.0.0 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/4.2.3.5h)

I've actually encountered the "Error - Unknown Error" or "Error - Could not connect to server" every time I've tried to use Webviewer tonight. I tried both resets with no luck so far.... I guess I'll be reinstalling the software to see if that helps.

EDIT: Nevermind, the issues seems to have been site-specific.

I'm getting the same thing "Error Unknown" on my 7520. The software worked fine about a week ego and now I can't go to any of my sites. One thing I noticed was that using NOL last week I was getting 500 errors but my WebViewer worked. When I called customer support they said a lot of people were having the same problem and the only way to fix it was to refresh the IP address. This week, my NOL works but my WebViewer is shot.

fabianva, have you tried the full reset?? Either power off and remove battery, or do the alt-cap-del reset two times one immediately after the other--this should do a full radio reset. See if that helps either the wap browser or webviewer.

Dont waste your time with the reset, if you read my post above you will seee I went thru the whole thing. The problem is with Nextel doing somewthing with their servers. I had the IP address changed and all the different ways to power reset the BB. Nothing is wrong with your BB or the programs you have on it, it all falls on Nextel who wont let you know when they are going to play around with the servers, like today, I now cant use webmessenger, or reqwireless broswer. Only WAP browsing works,m then probably later today or sometime later I'll be able to use webmessenger, reqwireless and not NOL... go figure but if this conitues I will sell my 7520 and take a hit to get out of contract, I want my BB to work, not hope that it will work everytime I want to use it.

I uninstalled reqwireless and everything seems to be working now. Let's see how long it will last.

For all problems I have encountered so far with the bb, a reset (sometimes forcing the handheld to re-register) has always helped to fix the issue. Sorry to hear about your luck fusion2u, and I hope the service gets better for you.

fabianva, I see you uninstalled reqwireless and say everything is working, does that mean your able to view HTML web sites ? Like Google or are you getting the WAP version (no photos or graphics) . Still no go for HTML just plain old WAP sites...Thanks Nextel

I just checked and both my NOL WAP browser and my Reqwireless browser (HTML) work. I also checked my AOL IM VeriChat and that works too. I'll keep an eye on the IP address to see if it changes. One thing I've been doing is using the 'Close' option when I exit out of Reqwireless. Hope this helps.

Thanks.
