How 2 save pics with 7510?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Nron

I upgraded my OS to the new 4.0 and I saw that there was a picture program. I remember seeing somewhere that you can save pics and make them your wallpaper. I did a search and couldn't find anything. Can anyone tell me how I can save pics to use as wallpaper? Thank you

Posted by: TMPhoneberry

Click the trackwheel and choose the menu option "Set as Wall Paper"

Posted by: Nron

I use reqwireless webviewer and when I click the track wheel there's no set as wallpaper function. I read somewhere that whatever image your trying to save must be on a website. Anyone else know anything about this? Thanks for the reply TM

Posted by: martin_j001

I believe this is how you would do it: If you are not on BES, then you have to have a picture (correct sizes and all) on a webiste (google for image hosting). Then, you would use your WAP browser (NOL) to visit that website, then you can click on the picture and you should be able to save it, and then from the Picture application you should be able to "set as wallpaper".

If you ARE on BES, then you should have the Nextel/RIM html browser, in which case I believe you can click on any picture you find and save it.

I'm not 100% positive on these, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong....

You cant see pics using NOL (I have a 7520 with webviewer & would like to learn how to do this as well)

Ummmm..... Yes, you can see pics using NOL, if they are properly sized. I am fairly confidant that what I posted previously is correct. There was a thread at www.blackberryforums.com,that described this process but it was erased in there outage.

Im always the first to admit when I am wrong, but when you use NOL can you see the image at this URL:

http://tinypic.com/17tkpk

I tried & I cant, thanks!

I could not access that page. I just found a thread on blackberry.net's forums that stated that the image has to be in the correct size and under 9kb (the image you posted, nhstunner, is 15kb).

There are many wap sites that rely on you being able to visit them to look at pictures--(all the following are linked from tekniwap.com): Phone Erotica, Elemele, iKinky, Mobile Porn, Mobile Hardcore, WAPsturbate--and I'm sure there's more where that came from....

If you get caught looking, just say you had to find out if you could actually view images....

EDIT: nhstunner, it looks like your sizing (pixel-wise) was correct, but the total file size may need to be played with to get it to work. Either way, I'd try going a little smaller both pixel-wise and overall size, and then try to get it again. I'm pretty sure that will work for you.... Let us know if you get it, that way we'll have it all sorted out here....

I'm at work now, but when I get home, I'll play with the size and pixels and let you guys know what I come up with.

Well, at least we know there IS a way of saving pics.... I guess its a matter of size, file size and maybe format that needs to be "tweaked".... Another user on hofo, tirsch I think it was, had figured this out and posted it on blackberryforums.com (the thread that was erased)--maybe we can get him to contribute....

Posted by: nhstunner

That would be great, like I said, I dont know what else to try, so ANY help is GREATLTY appreciated. Thanks!

Glad to see so many replies. I hope we can find out how to get our own hosted pics on our BB's

Posted by: Shdw_knt

Hey fellas I dont know what the hell everyone elses problem is.. but I have a bb 7520 and that pic at tinypic.com/17tkpk .. I opened that with my nol browser.. and better yet it even saved.. the save image option was towards the top of my list instead of towards the middle/end (if that makes sense to any of you)

It let me save the picture and it also let me set it as my background/standby screen..

PIMPIN!

I dont know why any of you guys had problems.. but anyhow.. I am ××××ing glad it works.. cause I am going to go and format an ××× ton of my personal photos and host them up. I will link ya all to them once I get them sized and posted!

Killer thread.. thanks guys I have been trying to do this for 2 weeks since I got my blackberry! Now if I can just find a ×××× way to load my own ringtones it will be off da hook!

Ok.. well after downloading the actual tinypic photo and checking the size.. I resized a few of my personal photos and loaded them to my blackberry.. good news bad news

Good News.. 300dpi 24 bits is cool

width of 240 seems to be straight..
height of 160... too big

These pics are either going to be 1 of two things.. sideways for some really good verticle photos.. or some really squished horizontal pics.. I will post in a few moments what height size works the best.. I mean you could do 160.. for hieght but the tops WILL be cut off.. if you want to see what I mean..

http://www.phonepimpz.com/blackberry/test1.jpg

Take a look at the photo on the blackberry and on the web.. the ships top once saved into the blackberry is cut out..

Ok I was playing around a little more before finishing this post... 240x160 is great for just looking at the pic in the picture folder on the blackberry.. but for actually saving it as the standby screen.. not so hot.. I will work on it a little more.. anyone know if it is possible to turn off the time and other info during standby.. that would make the 240x160 sweet!

More in a few..

Aight my last post for the night.. at least on this subject!

240x122 is the perfect fit for both the homescreen and standby screen.. this will give you full edge to edge coverage of your photo on the viewable screen.. now you can still do 240x160 if you want to view it full screen in the picture mode. Or if you main concern is standby/home screen then I would do 240x122 unless the other 38 pixels are of no concern to you..

if you take a look at www.phonepimpz.com/blackberry/test2.jpg you can see where it squished down.. it looks pretty good on the blackberry considering it is basicly a widescreen it is your guys' call on what size you want to use but there is my input on this subject! The screen sizes are as follows:

240x160 full screen picture view
240x122 homepage/standby mode

BTW if anyone is wondering that pic is of my wife and I on our honeymoon in Nassau, Bahamas infront of the Disney Wonder Cruise Ship that we where on for 4 days 3 nights.. it was an awesome exprience and if anyone ever thought about taking a cruise I would really suggest one of the disney ones if your a disney fan! What a Great Time!

PEACE!

I tried viewing the test pictures from the guy above me on 7510. And I still cant view them. It say like wap session abort 9: response too large. Has anyone else got this? I just wanna put my ×××× logo on my phone lol

Posted by: Shdw_knt

The only thing I can think of man is the fact that maybe your on part of the server that hasnt been upgraded yet.. i dont know.. see I was told by a fellow employee that once nextel unvialed bwc 4.0 it would be all good for everyone.. so I dont know.. I mean I am using phonepimpz right now to host the photos and it is all good in da hood for me.. I have loaded a bunch of blade trinity photos and a few other personal photos and it is working like a charm now.. earlier it didnt work at all for me.. so I dont know.. best I could tell ya is keep trying maybe your provider hasnt updated to 4.0 yet..

sorry bro..

Posted by: Johnni

i am on os 4.0 with a 7510. you cant save pictures biger than a certain amount, nor look at bigger sizes. i can view ANY size pics with WebViewer but cannot save. On NOL, i cant view the pics listed, it also says file to big. its ok tho, just have to use photoshop to bring down the bits and dpi.

Posted by: jimg72

I have found the max size on NOL to be about 6kb if that helps. This is a Nextel restriction I belive and does not affect other blackberry carriers.

Posted by: nhstunner

I made photos under 6K & they work like a charm, thanks all!

Posted by: martin_j001

So, we have come to the conclusion that the pics need to be 240x160 to be viewed as pics, or 240x122 to be set as background, and all at 6kb or less, would someone else confirm (I seem to get the error message that Nron described as well when trying to access the pic posted by Shdw_knt). Thanks to everyone who helped to figure this one out!!

Hopefully Nextel will get BWC4.0 up and running soon so that we all may have the chance to view pics from email (and possibly save them from email too)!!

I have been playing with pictures on my 7510 for awhile now. I found as long as the pic is under 9k and is 240*160 you can use it as a background or stand by screen.

I have posted several personal pics for my BB on my personal wap site if you want to take a look at them or download go here with you BB browser.

I use the NOL browser when using my wap site.

I assume you have never received the "wap session abort 9: response too large" error when attempting to do this? Does anyone out there have any ideas as to why some people may be receiving this error and others are not? Kelldani, thanks for the link as well, I will attempt to access your site later to see if that works for me, but I am assuming that I will get the error message again...

Posted by: martin_j001

I was able to visit kelldani's site and download all of the backgrounds posted there. There are also ringtones there for those of you that are interested. Great site kelldani!!

Posted by: zerotwoone.com

I have about 100 images of all types resized and ready to go. I'm setting up a WAP site and will be back with a URL late next week if anybody is interested.

great site, but when I try to DL poly ringers to my BB7520, I get the WAP 9, session too big error?

Nice site you got there Kelldani. I downloaded a few ringtones and backgrounds from your page. Thanks

Posted by: Shdw_knt

Hmm.. finding pics that will look good horizontal is a pain in the arse.. I cant belive how hard it is..

I will be posting a bunch of photos on www.phonepimpz.com tonight/tomorrow for the blackberry and adding a blackberry section.. the problem is bandwidth is expensive.. would any of you guys mind regisitering to get access to them? I would even setup an ftp for you all to use the site as a hosting spot so that you can upload your own photos to be added to the site. I would just make 1 general upload account and everyone can share that to share there photos. I dont know just my thoughts.. I will check back in with you all later!

Peace

Kelldani,

It is a nice site that you have. I was impressed with the "artistic" pics that you had on there.

I could not get anywhere with clicking on the midi link though and would love to have some different ring tones on my device.

I still think I will wait until Nextel (hopefully) releases the newer web client so that we can all do the picture thing.

Posted by: kelldani

Thanks for all the compliments!

Sometimes the midi link goes down on the guys server who hosts it try again after awhile and it should work.

I have posted a bunch more pictures and I'm still working on more.

I dont know if my area (Southern New Hampshire) did an upgrade or what, but Im having NO problems now with ringers or pics! I just upload to tinypic.com with a 240 x 160 pic & they work perfect everytime! So if anyone here has given up, try again! This just started working today.

Kelldani - GREAT site!

Hey Folks.. ok so I got the wallpapers up..

http://www.phonepimpz.com/bbpics.html

that is where I am keeping the thumbnails to take a look at them before you try to download.

As for downloading them to your blackberry directly:

http://www.phonepimpz.com/pics/blackberry/240x122

However that folder IS password protected. There will be TONS of more photos going up in the next few days.

Folks all I ask for is a little help.. like I said.. the website is not cheap thing to run.. it cost me $160 a year to run. To some that is not alot but considering that I spend the time to hand convert/create almost ever ringtone and wallpaper, ontop of trying to stay up with the latest hacks, all well trying to hold down a full time 50hr a week job.

The store has membership access, consider it a $5 donation. I will email the ftp info to each person that subscribes so that they can make and upload thier own wallpapers to share with everyone.

** BEFORE YOU Sign up though please make sure you will be able to download the pictures by downloading one of the follwing test files - goto your NOL Browser and goto this address:

http://www.phonepimpz.com/blackberry/test1.jpg
http://www.phonepimpz.com/blackberry/test2.jpg

Wallpaper updates to the Blackberry section will be done on a 2 day cycle, unless we get private uploads.

Enjoy Folks!

If you have Adobe photoshop getting pics on your BWC blackberry is pretty easy.

Get your pic
Click save for web
Size pic 240X160
Click on the optimizer scroll and get the pic under 9k
Save by saying OK
Upload to website

Go to website on your computer and click on photo
Make note of the photos properties ie: www.website.com/photoname.jpg

Go to BB browser and type in the above - MAKE SURE it is EXACTLY like the photo property address, if it is capital letter capitalize!

The pic should show up and you can click thumbwheel and save to phone.

I imagine other photo software will allow you to do this.

Wow. Naked lady pics. No thanks! You should put a warning up in your advertisement for this smut.

For those that are in need of wallpaper and still can not get it to work. Email me your picture with BB Wallpaper in the subject line and I will convert and host it for you. I will host it for 2 weeks from the time that I send you the email that it is up before removing it. No nudity please. If you wish to make a donation you can on paypal to NinjaMom@bellsouth.net.

There is actually a warning if you go in to the website and then go to view the thumbnails of the pics.

Thanks for the offer to host and resize pics for people if they need that done. I am sure you will find many people willing to take you up on that offer--I may be in that boat soon.

Posted by: amc

Ninjamom and nhstunner-

This was tried and works with the web client and not the BES, correct?

I think I am going to try the tinypic.com website and see if I can do it that way.

Thanks for your help.

[Edit] - I tried a sample pic from the Tinypic site and it worked it just was not the right size. So I assume all I have to do is save as the correct size and upload it and then go to it to save it on the BB. This will be great if it works as I would like to be able to have family pics on my device.

Thanks again everyone for finding this.

Posted by: martin_j001

amc--most, if not all, of the downloads on the pages listed above should work--BES not required. It only uses the NOL browser. Sizing will be an issue, as the home screen is 240x122 I think, and the full screen is 240x160. The software doesn't automatically resize images depending on how they are being used. So, if you have a pic you want to use as your homescreen, it will need to be saved as the smaller size, but then if you were to try and view it using the pic viewer it wouldn't quite fill the screen. I guess you could save two different sizes of the pic you wanted, but that may kill memory eventaully.

Posted by: amc

Memory - one more reason to have upgraded to the 7520.

I messed with tinypic briefly yesterday while at clinicals and then when I got home tried to use Adobe to get the size of one of my pics down and was struggling a little bit to do that so again it is on the backburner.

At least I know that it can be done and will just require a little perseverance on my part when the time comes.

Thanks to all that have contributed in this thread

Yes. It works for me and I am on the web client.

Posted by: Shdw_knt

AMC - send me the pics you want done and I will put them up for you.. really you don't need any fancy editiors to resize the picture.. just take your pic resize to 240w X 122h and your done.

I personally just use vueprint/vuepro32 which ever your more comfortable with.. if I am doing more then say 2 or 3 then I pop open photoshop and let that bad boy crank out a good 20 or 30 using the automated batch feature.. but other then that.. any cheap ol freebie software that supports resizing should work just fine. With my 7520 I have downloaded pictures that have been well over 124k in size a piece with no hassels.

Anyhow.. pop me a quick email with the photos and I will help ya out.. or just attach them to a message here and I will download them and then host them

Posted by: amc

I appreciate the offer, but was able to use tagtag to upload them and then when you view the pic in the NOL browser you are given the option(s) of resizing it right from within the browser.

The only problem is that it stretches it a bit, but I just need to play with it more to get it right. I'll do that on spring break (I have soooo much to read right now).

Again thanks for the offer - I keep checking this thread every few days to see if there are any new breakthroughs as far as doing this. So far so good.
