Remote Phone Access

Is it possible to make a call from a cell phone, without physical access to the phone? Reason is, a person I know has been accused of making a threatening phone call that she didn't make, but looking in her call history the call was indeed made from her phone, but physical access to the phone to anyone would have been nearly impossible.
I don't know the phone model, but I will try and find out.

I didn't think it was possible to clone a number anymore but maybe so.

It all comes down to how much you want to trust a computer. With most modern cellular phones it would be 'impossible' to fake a call as coming from a number it did not come from, but will I attest, in court, as an 'expert', that it could not happen. No.
