CDM 8910 Pictures really dark

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi eveyrone. I was curious about how the 8910 works for everyone picture wise. Mine is always dark and the only time it looks semi decent is when there is a lot of light but it still has an orange color to every picture. How well does the camera work for everyone else?

Thanks

Wes

my camera works great, i have no complaints. is one of your image effects on? theres an effect that makes everything redddish orange colored. have u changed the brightness? thats all i can think of

Yes the camera requires decent amount of light (like many other camera phones)

Under Image Controls (under camera mode hit options) make sure you have the following setup:

-Brightness at 1 or 2
- Image Effect at Normal
- Quality at FINE or Normal

Yeah I do have it set to that, but still it seems dark. Also, even if the brightness is at -2 it looks the same as it does when the brightness is set to +2.

Seal is of?
How is the lighting?
You need more than a bulb

Also enabling the flash for every picture may help for close up shots

Posted by: wfernley

Yeah the seal is off. The lighting doesnt really matter its dark anywhere, like me and a friend compared ours and looked at the same thing, he had a motarola phone i think and its picture quality was amazing compared to mine. If i take a picture in my room you can kinda see the picture but its hard to make out whats goin on - and thats at one bulb.

are u waiting a few seconds after starting the camera? the color is weird if u dont give it like 2 seconds for teh picture to come in

Posted by: wfernley

Yup I do. I also tried using the flash with it and well it doesn't help at all.

Posted by: criddled456

take it back to where u bought it from. if u can show them all your pictures suck im sure theyll exchange it for a working one

Posted by: Tech_Junkie

Take it back. I have the 8910 on Veriozn and the pictures are always bright and vibrant! Probably a defect in your lense or your screen

yeah. mine aren't dark. they are pretty good. so i really have no complaints on the pictures

Posted by: wfernley

Can anyone send me some examples of these pictures? That might help. I think I might head over the local Bell Mobility shop near here tomorrow to see if they have a demo i can see and compare to my current one.

Okay, I know every trick (or glitch actually) in the book for the 8910. The reddish orange should go away if you point the camera DIRECTLY INTO the light source for a second. Then you can refocus on your target. You do need a lot of light to take pictures though.

Oh and some more defects I've noticed with the 8910. (I've had three so I know they are defects)

External LCD seems to have discoloration on it if the contrast is set to 1 in display options.

Speakerphone volume setting don't seem to save.

The power charge complete light is sometimes red when it has been charging for more then enough time. It should however change from red to green and back again every few minutes.

If backlight remains on, if you look through the flash you see a green color.

Pictures are named in default sequence Pic1...Pic2...Pic3...and you might not even have a Pic1 and your phone wants to name the photo Pic25.

Some keys don't work sometimes. Usually 6 and 9 keys. Usually deleting text messages, recent calls, history, stuff like that and power cycling (rip battery out while phone is on for 20 minutes) will fix it. Sometime just pressing the button repeatedly gets it to work better. Shaking unit lightly may help it too.

Reception is unpredictable. Usually the 8910 can pick up a very low signal, but if your medium range away from the tower, those bars turn into a rollercoaster.

i seem to have a simulure picture problem. my pictures seem blurry and have this random color like distorted. it happens on all my pictures no mater how much light ore what settings any ideas or is this just how it should look.

Wife and I got two 8900s and both of them had a defect in the lens. Would not let enough light in.
Carrier replaced both phones after I had a major fight with them.

I was wondering the same thing Desperado, it seems the photos are too dark and grainy, especially for the 1.3 megapixle in the 8920.
I think I might just get the dealer to open a couple of new boxes to compare mine to.
Are the two new phones any better by the way?

Posted by: Desperado1037

That is what I had them do and they saw the difference ....
The new phone are excellent, alot better than I expected..... GOOD LUCK
P.S. Point out that it has to be a defect in manurfacturing

Thanks for the reply Saw11_2000.

I have been fooling around with the camera trying to see how to get the pics to look the best. I got some good ones in the mall yesterday of my gf. Although she was kinda pissed so those pictures didnt turn out.

Also my dad ending up getting the same phone and his looks the same as mine. I think the phone itself is alright, havent had too many problems although I think I would consider getting a different phone if I had a choice of this one or a new one.

Anyways, thanks for your help
