I need some advice.
I am thinking about getting the 7290 from Cingular but my only tasks will be address book, phone, keyboard for messaging, internet but no email. I have been looking at the Treo 600 but because of its unstable nature I have now started looking at the 7290. What do u all think?? I like how much easier it seems that typing on the Blackberry would be compared to the Treo but both do have keyboards that would work.

Not sure with Cingular, but with Nextel it is not possible to get only web service on a blackberry--you either get full data (email, web, etc) or no data (no email, no web, no text messaging).
Blackberry without the data plan is pretty much just a big phone.

I have the BB 7920 and it is poor as a PIM compared to the PocketPC. In fact, I can't wait for the Blackberry Connect software to come out so I can go back to that platform and ditch the 7290. To its credit, the 7290 does have much better battery life compared to my MDAII. The brower is slow and very limited and the email isn't much better. Coming from a phone, it is a big jump ahead. Having used smartphone or better, it is a bigger step back.
If you need a phone with a PIM you have quite a few choices from the SE P910, Treo 650, various PocketPC (even one with a QWERTY keypad). If input isn't such a big deal, I'd go for a Windows Smartphone like the Audiovox. I'd also checkout a pocketpc phone on Verizon's network since they are offering EV-DO for $15/mo. If it is in your travel area, the speed is the best.
Take a look at the PocketPC and Windows Smartphone forums. Also checkout www.treocentral.com for information on that device. I don't recall reading the Treo 600 was unstable; the 650 is the latest model.

One has to be careful to take everything they read in a forum to be what the entire user base thinks. The majority of people that post on discussion boards are having some kind of problem. They usually don't post something about how much they love the device. I wouldn't automatically think that since you might see a post about someone having a problem with a device to be common for everyone. Of course, there are some issues that are very common, but that's not always the norm.
Anyway, I had a Treo 600 for about six months and it was GREAT. I never had any problems with it. I've seen threads where people have returned them a ton of times, but not me. There are people out there that return things for the slightest thing. I'm like that with my car, if I hear the slightest noise it goes back to the dealer to get fixed. Some people are like that with their phones too.
Sp, to answer your question... don't get a Blackberry if you don't want to do email. The Blackberry's greatest strength is email. Like the other guy said, the PDA/PIM functions are ok. Palm and Windows Mobile devices do a much better job with it, plus they can do a TON more with third-party apps. The Treo is a good choice because it's small. The larger Windows Mobile phones are just that, LARGE. You might like a more phone like device like to MPx220 of the SMT5600.

A BB with out the BB service is rather a large phone. The PIM is OK but I can't see lugging a BB around all day for that purpose. I would get a phone and use a Palm pilot for my organizer.
Now if you got to keep in touch and receive and answer email AND need a phone, the BlackBerry beats them all. I have used the Treo 650 and HP6315 and there is no comparison to what the BB can do.
To someone who does email out of the office, having you email "pushed" to your device with the BB service is superior.
The alternative is to pull your device out and request your mail. Do that about 10-20 times a day and you will see why BB is the best.
