Blackberry in Europe

Our company (U.S. Ski Team) is looking to purchase a number of Blackberry units to use exclusively in Europe. The primary usage area will be Italy, for a three-week event this February and for the Olympics next year.

We want to have both voice and data service, accessing our POP3 email server.

I'm looking at both the 6230 and 7230. RIM's site indicates that only the 7230 will work in Italy.

The most convenient service provider for us to use is probably TIM, and using prepaid cards would be easiest.

Can anyone share their similar experiences, look for potential problems we might encounter, etc.

I'm especially concerned if using prepaid SIMs will work for both voice and data.

Thanks for your help.

it looks like you can use it with pre-paid in addition to a subscription too

Using a Blackberry on TIM prepaid is 25 euro a month for up to 100 megs of gprs traffic, then calls are the same as just the regular prepaid... You just have to get a special recharge at any tim store each month to keep it goign...

Thanks, this is really helpful. I assume, too, that the same SIM can be recharged for voice calls or for more gprs traffic during that month? It also looks like this might require an actual TIM store versus a general phone retailer. Is that the case, or should I be able to do this at any reasonable phone store?

Also, I'm assuming the 7230 should work fine. What do you know about using the 6230 in Italy?

check your PM's

yeah you'll be able recharge both at any TIM store once the account is setup. the data is just seen as a monetary charge (like voice calls)

the 6230 is just a black adn white screen version of the 7230, same transmitter, bands, intl capability
