mpx220 and usb cable drains battery?

Last night I plugged my phone into the USB cable, with the computer on, and left the computer and phone on for 4-5 hours. At night, I shut off my computer, leaving the phone plugged in and turned on. When I went to get my phone thismorning, it was powered down. After turning it on, I immeditally got the low main battery warning. Also, the date and time were wrong (it said dec. 23rd). Has anyone else seen this happen? I am not sure if the phone is defective or if the USB cable ended up draining the battery.

I just left my phone on, with the computer on, to charge for 2 hours, and when I came back, it again was powered off, with the battery down. So it seems to be if the phone computer is on or off it has this problem.

Sounds more like a defective phone. Can I call the motorola phone exchange and get a new one?

Thanks!

If that is indeed the case then in order to prevent this just unplug your phone from teh USB cable at night when yoru computer is off.

I doubt that this is the case, however, but just to be sure and safe you shoudl do this....

It still does it with the computer on.

Make sure you have ActiveSync installed (the new version 3.8 can be found on Microsofts website) as it installs a driver that allows your phone to charge through the USB cable.

If this doesnt work, then you have a faulty cable and/or phone then. See if you can get a warranty exchange on your phone (including the USB cable that came with it)...

Good Luck....

Can I exchange with the same place everyone has been calling to get phones with newer frimware.

Most places have the updated firmware already so just go back to the store where you bought it (if you are within your 30 days) and do an exchange.

If you are not within your 30 days, go the cingular Exchange route......

...confirm that you don't have the same problem charging the phone with the wall charger. you might also check that the phone battery is making good/solid contact with the battery posts. i had a similar problem with the MPx200 and had to place a tiny piece of paper in the back of the phone to fix it. i've also read where a couple of MPx220 users had to tweak battery post connections to get the phone to charge.

ActiveSync...the phone has always been able to charge before version 3.8. i could charge my T720 with a USB cable. AKillah1 - please share your source on the "driver" that supports charging the phone. (thanks!)

if all else fails, get another one!

good luck!

About the driver I heard this on another forum. I assumed it was true since my after market cable charged my v600 and MPX-220 while the original OEM Motorola cable did not. When I use the OEM cable after I installes activeSync, the MPX-220 charged but the v600 still did not charge not matter what I installed. This occurred in all versions of ActiveSync, before and after 3.8....

Were you using an aftermarket cable for you T270, or the OEM Motorola one?

yep, i was using an aftermarket cable from APC(?); the main difference was that it had 2 prongs instead of the 3 prongs on the MPx220 USB cable.

Yeah just liek I thought. There seems to be a difference between the OEM Motorola cable and the one sold on ebay (when it comes to charging).

The charger driver probably i senabled for the OEM cable only, and not needed for the aftermakret ones.....

Either way, as long as your phone charges, it does not matter..........
