no he does actually mean downgrade thge firmware on the phone. as of yet the newest firmware is not unlockable. hence the reason you have to downgrade the software vertsion of the phone to be able to unlock it. that is the only way if you have the new firmware.

also i forgot to mention, you need the serial cable not the usb one to use the unlocking software. also with a little research you can enable gprs, mms and wap on other networks simcards.

so does the downgraded software cause any problems that the newer FW didn't have?

well i own an unlocked nec with the old firmware. the phone originally came with the old firmware. and i used it with the serial cable to obtain a copy of the rom chip inside the phone with the software on. i used it then to flash the rom chip on a nec e616v with the newer firmware. the person i did it for hasnt had any problems whatsoever. i read somwhere that the original firmware for the phone had to be updated because it had a few issues. there are no actual physical differences between the phone inside or out. the software on the rom chip is the only difference. so it shouldont cause any problems. also i have not seen any so called "issues" with the old software as of yet. personbally i think they just released the new firmware to hinder unlocking. there are plenty of people on ebay advertising unlocking nec e616v phones. and this is the exact method they use. the only issue i can think of is setting up the wap, mms, gprs etc for allt he g3 functions. i have managed to set up my wap, and multimedia messaging. but i have no way of setting up the gprs or anything or the homepage for the wap. but apart from that. i have a 3g vodafone uk sim in and it works AOK!
