*Newbie*Downloading ring/wallpaper to 6190

I need help putting ringtones and wallpaper on my LG 6190 phone. I tried the tutorials that were posted and both the ringers and the wallpaper never worked. I can get my phone data and put images from the phone onto my HD, but not the other way around.
Through BitPim i went through the filesystem tab and expanded the usr thing, expanded the ringtone, made a subdirectory and then added the file to the subdirectory. When I reboot my phone nothing new appears. Same goes for the wallpaper.
What I am doing wrong?
