The Definitive "How to fix your Ring Details" thread

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: BigDaddy5

Ok, so you've decided you hate the preloaded ringtones. But you have no idea how to delete them so you blindly went in and deleted them. Now you can't access your loud details.

Before I go and tell you what a ××××ing moron you were for blindly deleting crap on your phone, I'll explain to you what you did wrong. You deleted ringtones that were in use. For example, "loud" was using continental, but you deleted it, so it has no idea what to do but kick you to the main menu. Next time, make SURE you go through EACH detail and set them all to silent before you delete all the garbage you don't want.

Now, how to fix it. There's two ways. One is by PST, you go into PST and change all the detais to silent or 0. I can't remember exactly, but if I remember right, you go to "new" and make a new "Feature file." Read it from the phone then change everything to 0 in the details. Reupload that to your phone and it should work.

The second way is to reflex. This isn't the most popular option, but it's the easiest and usually gaurantees success. Reflex, then delete the ringtones like I explained how above.

Posted by: DS

the other method is to upload all of the deleted tones (given that you have backed them up), delete the two .db files, restart the phone, check to see if you can get into the ring details. if so, then follow the instructions in this guide carefully

thanks for the info guys., db files were my failure.

hey instead of manually doing the SILENT allocation., use motokit, and there's one click of a button that does all that for you. Very phat software

Hello...im having the ring details problem on my v220. I have done the thing with PST, and it didnt work. In additon to the ring details problem i am also having problems scrolling through my ringtones, when i try to, it bumps me back to the settings menu. also, when i try to set a ringtone to a specific id, the ringtone doesnt play when they call, it just beeps. ive been reading through the threads all week, so im sorry if ive missed any articles on here that could fix my problem - if i have, i know what ur thinking..**** n00bies... so i apologize. but if someone can, please please help me. I was thinking, what if i had someone with the same phone as me also with cingular saved/backed up all the files like that on their phone, if i sent it onto my phone would that fix it? i dunno..it was just athought..

if you have aim, my name is imjustagirl2314 or yahoo its: mari_ziegler

Sorry guys, but i'm new at this stuff and am not able to follow along. I've tried correcting the problem for the ring details, but my efforts are useless... Yes, you may have guessed it, i'm one of the XXXXing morons that blindly deleted some sort of ringtone file and not backing it up. To be honest with you, although i've read the instructions for fixing this problems, i still don't know what to do. I read somewhere about "reflexing", how do i do that? I've also read something about PST... what is that??? By the way, i have a V551, in case that helps any. I tried the whole "deleting of the two .db files and restarting the phone, but it didn't help (and i tried changing all the ring ids to silent, the best i could) If anyone could give me a step by step instruction, i would greatly appreciate it. please either post it here, or email me at superlatinman@msn.com. I have both the P2Kman program, and the Moto Kit.

Okay, I'll admit to being a xxxxing moron and blindly deleting the preinstalled ringtones. The deleting the db files didn't work for me, but PST worked great. I am now going to PROPERLY delete the preinstalled ringtones by following the instructions in this forum. Thank you for the guides you've provided!

Hi Everyone ,

Posted by: yeongk

Hi all ... just want to share ... my phone work fine after did the master reset ... thanks this forum ...

Posted by: weeezer_20

guys guys guys!!!
the first thing u should do when you open p2kman for the first time is to back up all the files you find there, AND all the seem files.
after doin' that, you can do anything you want with your phone, but first, for god's sake, always make a backup copy!!!

Posted by: turtlepwrz

thnks hofo.

my details were shot until i try this posting.
now fixed.

thank you

No, read the rules of this forum, and then read HF11's stickies in the main Moto forum.

Just do the Master Reset ...

Posted by: djnick

just a heads up i did the PST trick on my phone and it fixed that menu problem and i was able to go back into ring details, however after i setup my ring details there was still no noise coming from my phone, even if i played a sound on my phone or if someone called me. Turned out that pst deleted my gaintable.bin or something, so i reuploaded one i had backed up and everything work, just my experience incase anyone runs into it

Posted by: Rcadden

I was able to delete the two .db (after backing them up) and i'm good to go

Posted by: leenx

Hi,

I skimmed over the ringtone help thread, but could not find what I needed help with.

I just had my V400 replaced with a V551 for bad reception problems. I am trying to create ringtones for the V551. I have the cable, all the drivers installed, mobile phone tools 3.x, and p2kman. I also have a software for slimming the size of the mp3 down to the amount I want, and a lower quality.

Now onto the question. I managed to upload the mp3's to my phone in the audio directory. My only problem now, is that I can see them if I go in and play them on the phone, but I am not able to apply them as ringtones. When I go in and try to look for them as a ringtone, they are not even listed. I tried changing the attributes of the files, but it won't let me, and I even went into the mp3 from the phone and hit "apply as ringtone" but it does nothing.

Does anyone have a fix for this? Did I do something wrong, or not do something? As I said, I just ripped the file down to a smaller size, and uploaded it to the audio directory.

Thanks for any help. This thing is driving me nuts.

Posted by: BigDaddy5

Your problem has nothing to do with the topic in this thread.

How about starting a new thread instead of thread jacking this one?

Posted by: leenx

I'm sorry, that was not my intention. I thought my issue did pertain b/c the ring tones are not listed in the select ringtone menu. No reason to be mean about it. K thnx.

Posted by: tonhe

So this is 60% my problem... but with phonebook entires.

Everything was fine as far as ring details, but when I uploaded my phonebook using MPT (i had custom ring tones, which always come up as the wrong ones when I relaod from MPT, even so they're in my audio directory).. anyway, when I tried to edit, or view details on a person that has a custom ring tone, it kicks me out.. I really dont want to reenter 20-30 numbers and names again to keep things kosher. Any work arounds, I already tried MotoKit, no go there.

Thanks

Posted by: TamaKun808

Will Master Reset clear all contacts too?

Posted by: bunnypoo

no it won't i just tried it

Posted by: xlr8

Preventing a problem is the best way:

Prior to deleting any ringtones, do the following:

Remove all Alarm Clocks.
Remove all Phonebook Ringer IDs.

Set all ring style details to silent. This is not as easy as it sounds. First, set the ones that show up by default to silent. Then, enable any missing details (like Info Svcs, Ans Mach, multi-line calls, etc) by editing your 0032 seem. You may have to temporarily set the 0032/02/1 bit to 0 to get them to show up as well. See http://xlr8.us/hofo/map.txt for specific details.

All of these ring style details must be set to silent in each ring style:
Calls
Line 1
Line 2
IM
Text Msgs
Voicemail
Info Svcs
Ans Mach
Alarms
Data Calls
Fax Calls

You may also need to enable "Silent Details" and "Vibe&Ring" if your phone supports it and those are turned off. Then set all those details to silent as well.

=====

If you have caused a problem and locked yourself out of some ring styles. Try deleting the .db files. That may or may not work. If that does not work, the best thing to do is to create a small size ringtone, make a lot of copies of it, and upload all those copies to your phone. That will "fill in" the .db files up to the slot where the ringtone that is in use that you deleted is. Once you can get back into the ring style details... look for the offending ring style detail. If you can't find it, see above for some details you may have to enable. Once you find it, set the offending detail to silent, and then try deleting all the small size ringtones you uploaded.

a "master reset" will reset settings that were changed on the phone (i.e. wallpaper, menu changes, etc.)

a "master clear" will revert the phone back to factory settings... deleting any saved texts, numbers saved to the phone, pictures, etc.

the other ways to fix this problem are located in the begining of this thread on page 1... or do a search.

if i did a reflash would it help? what would i lose after a reflash?

Posted by: Golfer62

I am having a similar problem. I jumped in an tried adding a ringtone but accidently put it in the vavr folder within the audio folder. (I know, not good....) I deleted the ringtone from there and then added it to the audio folder with the rest of the ringtones. Now, when I select Settings, Ringstyles, Loud Detail, it takes me back to the menu within Settings. I tried deleting the .db files and restarting the phone, but that didn't work. The files are still there.

How do I delete these files, restart my phone and then disconnect from p2kman correctly. I selected the files and clicked the delete file(s) button one at a time but they don't go away. Also, my phone keeps the "connected" symbol on it even after I disconnect. I tried turning it off and even taking out the battery but no luck.

Any ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

here are the links.
You need to register for this sight, its free.

Make sure you download the patch also for PST.

Posted by: xXxSamsungxXx

Here are a couple fixes other then the PST one:
1. Open p2kman Delete MyToneDB.db & TempToneDB.bd from the /a/mobile/audio directory and do a master reset (security code 000000)
2. Open Motokit and use the fix ringstyles option
3. Using p2kman upload these seems to your phone SILENT RINGSTYLES

Sorry if they were already mentioned didnt go back and read whole thread.

I'm having all kinds of trouble deleting Moto E815 stock tones w/ Bitpim. Many have said it's not possible. But I'm a believer that it must be possible if one only knows how to do the hacks.

Not a problem

Posted by: TamaKun808

I have a V180 and I'm still having problems recovering my ring details.

I tried that solution with uploading a lot of small ring files to fill slots, delete mytone and temptone, and still, nothing. I did Master Reset a bunch of times, and I'm still not getting anything.

Posted by: xXxSamsungxXx

Did you try any of the other solutions that I posted 1 or 2 pages back?

Posted by: TamaKun808

Actually, you have that solution on the 3rd page on how to solve it with a step that included using MotoKit, which is a program I do not have. Will it be a problem if I bypass it?

BTW, I'm going to treat myself to a Razr this christmas....hopefully the black one.

Posted by: waltinsocal

Do it EXACTLY as Samsung says, including Motokit...it will work easily and flawlessly, at least with a 635...Motokit can be downloaded for free..do a search here or on Google...it's easy to use and has some good stuff.

hello all clever and genious' in mobile stuff.first of all hatsoff to the great help u have been rendering out through this forum.
i have a new motorola razor v3 with video recording.i did some mischief in editing the seems or deleting the custom made ringtones, wallpapers.
and now i see that i am not able to get any sound when there is an incoming call from few phones including mobiles.
another problem is that in the settings>ring styles>details>when i click the right soft key for details the mobile is reverting back to previous menu and not getting in to details page.i mean it is getting back to ring styles page.
my last problem is when i am going in to phone book>scrolling down to a name stored in phone book>clicking view>edit>ringer id>and when i click the scroll button after scrolling till a few ring tones the phone is getting back to the main screen.
i actually deleted almost all the custom made ringtones and wallpapers from my phone through p2kman.ofcourse i reloaded them back in to the phone but it didnt solve the problem..is the problem because of my deleting the ringtones and wallpapers?
may be i didnt load the attributes correctly for all of them cos i loaded 4 attribute to all of them..
i know that there are experts out there who can help me out with these problems..plssssssssssssssssssss
some body help me out i am lot scared.i got my lesson that u should not play with technology unless u r an expert
but please some body help me out
plssssssssssssss

plsssssssssssss for gods sake some one show up..and u will be my angel
thanks a ton in advance....

I just used motokit to increase the volume on my V551 and now I have no sound on my phone...When I make call theirs now sound of any kind.
Any ideas how to get it back ?
I tried the PST method and master reset both didn't work.

Thanks

P.S the back up I made months ago with motokit didn't didn't want to restore so I'm without back up.

Posted by: dman32

Just an update from my previous post... I found a gain table.bin file from one of the threads and it fixed most issues with volume except my phone won't ring with incoming calls? if I want to hear my different ringtones I'm able to, just I can't get it to ring on my loud option.

Posted by: TamaKun808

I just got my RAZR and I had a problem getting into Vibe and Ring detail, for some odd reason. I just tried to use Motokit's Fix Ringtone thing, and it sort of fixed it, but for some reason, now I can't get into Vibrate Detail. It's not that much of a problem for me, since my Vibrate settings are just default, and I'm fine with that. But, does anyone know how to fix it?

Posted by: rexrep

You know, there hasn't been an occasion where I couldn't find help on this god-blessed forum (except where I've killed my phone beyond repair), but thanx really!

lol. U can't access "Vibrate Detail" cuz there's no point. There are no details! everything just vibrates!

Posted by: rexrep

In my case however, I've followed the instructions @ the beginning of this topic, but "Vibrate & Ring" still doesn't work! (The rest if the ring styles do though). Im not too pissed about it cuz I can still use Loud, but if u can help just pm me. thnx.

Posted by: Narfeltwarb

Anyone know if it's possible to add addtional ring details (like create a work ringer or a home ringer)

I know it's slightly off topic but it seems a few people here are pretty familiar with moto phones and ringers

Thanks

Posted by: pimpking4lif

I dont but that would be a kick *** idea.....

Posted by: junior_m

i found a solution
in my case the razor v3 dosent show up the details of any one style mostly vibrate&ring or vibrate then ring after reoving the custom ringtones.
or it might not give acces to editing and changing the assigned ringtone of a few phone numbers stored i the phone book..
but i reloaded all the custom ringtones back to audio through p2kman/p2k commander.i left the attribute to be 0..
restarted my phone, got in to sounds in multimedia>marked all files>clicked to delete all marked files..it will delete almost all the files but asks a question for a couple of ringtones saying: XXXXXringtone used as ringtone delete anyway? click no to such questions.
boom all the ring tones are gone except for a couple of them in my case..
restart the p2kman.. set the attributes to 4 for the audiofiles which the phone said to be using as ringtones so that they are not deleted at master clear..
it worked fine for me...
but i have a question??????????
even after i set all the ring details in each and every style to silent ,camera click sound to silent, dtmf ff,the phone still uses some audiofiles as ring tones cant we find out where they are being used as ringtones?
if anyone knows it just let me know..

So if I am uploading 5 second MP3s onto my Razr V3 why is it that they cannot be played as ringtones?

because this isn't a thread for that.

But to answer your question, you need to use MPT to upload, not whatever you're using. Or else delete the two .db's in the audio folder and restart.

Posted by: kloan

thanks for this.. the motokit helped. would be nice if you bothered to mention where to get it, i don't see why it's against the rules since it's not pirated, it's homebrew.. but w/e... im just glad i can access my ringtone details now..

Posted by: Flyinace2000

I went to PST and downloaded the Feature File from my phone, then changed all the ringer details to 0. I still can't get into the ring details after a phone reboot. Any ideas?

Posted by: Beachboy

Very quick question

I'm 100% new to modding but at work I installed bitpim and went into the folder where all the mids and mp3 are.. then I added a short mp3 file without editing it or anything.

It gave me an error but now I'm not even able to remove it from there.

Is there another way (or using another program) to just remove it from that directory? it's not used anywhere in the phone since it's a new filename. I know it's somewhere on the phone since I can see it in bitpim (but not when browsing the sounds on the phone itself)

Regards,
E.

p.s. I know I should do it with MPT that's what I will do as soon as I can remove this file

Posted by: Beachboy

I can't edit my post anymore.. anyways I was able to delete it with p2kcommander.

Regards,
E.

OK,
just for other NooBs like me reading this post...
I thought I'd read far enough through the forum to know what I was doing and uploaded a different startup and shutdown sounds over the existing ones. I was smart enough to make a backup of the originals first.

But now I have the same problem discussed in this forum- can't access Loud detail, so no ringer access for me! Also my changes reset the phone to a different ringer than the one I had chosen, and I can't change it back.

So, don't change your startup/shutdown sounds EITHER without turning everything to silent first!

Sounds like the .db files are pointing to the wrong sound files, so I'll go ahead and try BD5's how to fix tutorial and let you know if it works in this situation too.

OH, BTW, did the Master Reset. While I didn't lose anything out of memory, as you'd expect, you have to re-configure EVERYTHING on the phone to get your customizations back. (Here I use the word customizations loosely- I mean you have to go back and set which buttons to what, which screensaver, etc).

Posted by: ripan_chy

I connected my motorola e398 with P2k Tools V 0.8.6 build 406
I 'get' and then 'set' the ring detail. Then there is a problem in my phone.

The problem is: No ringtone rings for general category entries in phonebook.
i.e. the numbers saved in my SIM and my phone memory's general category, it doesn't ring.,just shows the call.
So It's a great problem.

Note: ringtones for Other categories are working without any problem.
Please help me to fix the problem.

Posted by: mareastra

As promised, here are my results:
Following the very thorough tutorial at:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=483121 as recommended by BD5 and DS, and written by Ward83, I was able to fix my ring details.

As a rank NooB, I'll be the first to say I don't know much about modding. But, what I've gathered are these key points:

BACKUP EVERYTHING FIRST! They really, really mean it- even the stuff you don't want!

The audio databases in the audio directory contain a listing of ALL sounds on the phone, and are NOT CHANGED when you delete something using PK tools. So although the startup and shutdown sounds are not visible in ANY of the ringtone detail menus, it means nothing- they are attached somehow, just not visible. It's a good bet the same is true of all the other sounds as well. SO BE CAUTIOUS AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS IN THE TUTORIAL EXACTLY.

And a word of caution to other NooBs out there-
Really, just read the forums. I know we're not all gifted with search engines, but be patient and keep looking. Somewhere on the boards, someone has given correct step-by-step instructions on how to do whatever you are looking to do.
If you're in so much of a hurry that you can't take the time to find what you are looking for, you're GOING to end up with a nice looking paperweight. This isn't like a computer, where you can just re-OS over your mistakes- you could end up with something that doesn't power up. Once in that fix, the local cell store salesmen are only going to sell you a replacement and thank their good luck that another sucker is giving them a bigger commission by their own haste.

As for backing up, I found as a rank NooB, that Motokit is much more intuitive for backing up ALL files than PKman. HOWEVER, Motokit also seems much more dangerous for all its power. Definitely need to do more reading before messing with that bad boy!

Just my 2 cents.

nope! This has been asked many times. Hopefully future moto phones will fix this, but this is a hardware issue and can't be changed with seems or flash upgrades.

Ok, I did everything in all these threads but I still cannot hear anything out of the earpiece/speakerphone/or microphone.

Any ideas on what's up?

On my RAZR, I was able to fix all my Ring Settings except for Vibrate. Whenever I try to access it, it kicks me back to the main menu. I've deleted the two db files, reuploaded all the audio files I had removed (why would these affect vibrate?!), and used MotoKit and just about every other program's 'Fix Ring Details' function, all to no use. This is driving me crazy since I want to edit the Vibrate Setting. Does anyone have any other suggestions or know where I could find a default Cingular flex that came with my phone? Thanks for any help!!!

is there anyway to restore the ring details via bluetooth? i dont have a backup of the original mids since they were hidden and couldnt be downloaded

ive got the app DEbrander Customizer on my phone which i throught might be usefull for deleting the db files ppl keep mensioning but i am not sure of their full name and location

is there a java app that allows you to edit the data that the ring details does? so one can set it to the appropriate setings so that ring details works again

my phone is a Motorola V635

No, you can't restore ring details via bluetooth. You need to have a hardwire connection, because the USB interface can send commands that bluetooth can't.

Just a question, does anyone have the original Motorola start up tone? I really miss the sound the Motorola's used to make when turning on and off. I am editing things on my phone, and would like to use the Moto tones. If anybody has them, please share

Hi friends,

Could anyone advise me about the ringtone setting any files (Mp3) as ring tone for Motorola Ming A1200 GSM phone and how to reject a call without opening the flip.

Thanks in advance
sunil

Done this twice. Discovered I don't know exactly what I'm doing, but it works for me.Used the ringtone fix in motokit, deleted the db files, still didn't work right. I could edit ringstyles o.k. but could not edit contacts. When viewing a contact, pressing "VIEW" OR "EDIT" would boot me to the home screen. The fix was using MPT,deleting all contacts and re-installing them. I keep mine backed up fairly often, good thing. Was senselessly deleting stuff to make more memory, forgot the "all silent" bit, again.

you should download P2KTools much better for fixing ringtones and such
