I use an LG 4600, with Telus as my provider

Okay, so here's my problem:

I use BitPim for my phone tinkering needs.

I thought I could save some time by using the 'Restore' feature thingy, when adding a whole pile of ringtones to it.

So, I make my Zip file with WinRAR, no problems.
Do the Restore stuff, select all the files, cause there were so many, I didnt bother to read them, and clicked the button.

Now I notice that I have files without a filename inside all the ringtone directories.
BitPim can't even browse the directory, I have to use the QUALCOMM program that I found a while back.

I cant delete the files without a name, because you cant delete a nothing, and im stuck.

Any ideas?
Or methods of restoring it to defaults?
Formatting it?

what do you mean ? make a zip file with 'winrar'

bitpim has it's own fuction { menu choice } for making a restore/zip file

I have done this and restored it and there NO ghost files or un-named files

of course if you zip the whole tree or even a portion of it : It MUST be restored to the correct 'branch' of the file system tree to be done correctly

if you zipped the whole tree

then restored it inside say ringtones, this would create a duplicate of the system tree as a sub-directory branch

what a mess !

I think what he meant by that was that he zipped the tree in his windows XP folders/sub folders with winrar and used BitPim restore to restore them.

right.

i was trying to save myself some time of creating all the individual things in bitpim, and just taking advantage of the restore feature.

i made the zip file with winrar, not with the restore dealie.

now i have the undeleteable files...

Normally you should use Bitpim backup tree and restore to do back up and stuff. So first backup the entire tree of "Ringtone" to your hard drive. It will create a zip file called Rintone.zip.

Then use winrar to unzip it to c: for example (you should keep the folder name). Then you can try to change the folders and the body files in Ringtone folder. Also you can add some folders and their .desc and body files. After that right click on Ringtone folder and select send to Compress folder (Windows XP) or you could even use Winrar to zip the "Ringtone" folder. Then use Bitpim to restore in "usr" folder.

Try to delete the Ringtone folder in "usr" and recreate it.
Please do it at your own risk!!!!!

yeah, that would have been fine, had i known this before i junkered my celly... but now.. its not much good to me...

i cant delete the directory, i cant restore, or backup the directory, and i cant even browse the directory...

the qualcomm program can browse it, but nothing can delete anything...

Reset your wallpaper and ringtone to one of the default ones.
then back up the rest of the folder in "usr" folder
"walpaper" - if you have firmware version v05 there are also folders: "Image clips" and "Sound clips". So go to "usr" and right click each and every folder mentioned and select backup tree.

Then delete the "usr" folder using bitpim. Recreate the "usr" and restore those backups and recreate ringtone folder.

PLEASE DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!

It's all fixed in the latest version of Bit-Pim.
It lets me delete the ghost files.
