Any thoughts from Audiovox SMT5600 users on which device is better? I like both devices but I'm conflicted. The 6620 supports EDGE but the Audiovox has Windows Software, and a better price.
Is there that much of a difference with EDGE vs. GPRS?
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'm not so sure edge would make a big difference. I have a number of phones in my collection some with edge like the Nokia 6820, and 6620, and others not. The 5600 is GPRS Class 10 and this for mobile surfing the 5600 will smoke the EDGE enabled phones everytime.
To stand up on my soap box for a min. and explane. (I know is only a wish list, but others in this fourm have also complained and even not considered the 5600 because it was not EDGE)
GPRS classes refer to the slots allocated for uploading and downloading data. The class number, in this case 10, signifies the multislot class and refers to the maximum number of slots that can be used for downloading - the more slots used, the faster the data transfer. A class 10 GPRS device can allow bitrates exceding 171.2 kbit/s
Most of the other handsets available (EDGE or not) are only GPRS class 2 or 8, having only 2 or 8 channels available for downloading, unlike the 10 used in the 5600.
EGPRS (Enhanced GPRS or EDGE) uses a slightly different technology based on what's called 8PSK, or 8-Phase Shift Keying. In throey EGPRS it makes transfers about three times faster than GPRS up to 384 kilobits.
In reality however because of the 8PSK technology used in EGPRS the increased speed increase can only be obtained when downloading larger files.
So unless your connecting your handset to your laptop and downloading huge files the the GPRS class 10 smt5600 will and does smoke all of the EDGE enabled phones for WAP surfing via the built-in browser. I have tested this in a side by side test and the 5600 is at lease twice as fast as the EDGE Nokia 6620 and/or 6820.

That's good information. Thank you all. I'm not sure if I'm going to utilize the the phone more for WAP browsing or tethering to my laptop. It seems as though the EDGE works better with tethering since I'm more likely to be downloading larger attachments in those situations.
Since the Audiovox isn't yet (officially) available for Cingular I'm going to go with the Nokia 6620 and the unlimited internet (MediaWorks) plan for the 30 day trial period. That will give me a better idea of how I actually plan to use the phone's internet features.
