SX1 Findings

While trying to synchronize Outlook with the SX1, I have discovered a few quirks:

1.- The SX1 suite does not seem to work with Win XP service pack 2. I always get an installation error saying something to the effect that the installer had to close due to an error. The variant installation did not work either, this was probably because I did not install the telephone driver manually.

2.- When synchronizing the Outlook contacts, the records are organized alphabetically by the first name. I prefer having them by the last name, the way they are in Outlook. It does not seem to matter how I organize the records in Outlook, they are transferred the same way all the time.

3.- When I send pictures to the computer, regardless of the camera resolution, they always arrive in a small square. These pictures are not very easy to see and if you enlarge them they get very blurry.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding remedies for the above?

My SX1 has synched perfectly with Outlook, and the phone sorts by surname. When you edit an entry on the phone, does it have all the details in first names or in the surnames field?

How are you sending the pictures - I've dragged/dropped them via the SX1 explorer, sent via the SX1s file explorer tools (sent by Infrared). Both cable and infrared are fine.

Did you install the Siemens Data Suite or the newer Mobile Phone Manager with the SX1 add-on? I'm using MPM with XP SP2 with no problems. The only issue I have is when I switch back and forth between my wife's SL65 and my SX1.

I don't sync contacts, so I can't help you there.

Do you have your camera reolution set to highest quality? This will increase the image size and fix the situation you describe.

Actually, thats a good point about the pictures - taken in "Standard mode", they are small. miniature is even smaller, but full screen is the only one that allows them to be the full (480x640) resolution.

1.- To answer clonmult: when I edit the entries both the last and first name fields are used. However, I just noticed that the fields are reversed, for example:

first name: Bush,
last name: George

first name: Tony's
last name: NY Pizza

The person name entries have a comma after the "last name", although as shown above they are stored in the first name entry.

2.- I am sending the pictures via MMS. I think I found out a reason for the small image. Seems as if I have to set the camera on full screen in order to have bigger images when sent to the computer. I had been relying on the details camera settings of "high, normal, and basic" to determine my pixel resolution. It did not matter that the setting was on high, the picture always came out 160x120.

I also notice that in the different settings for the screen view of the pictures, there is a small red number on the top right hand side of the screen, as follows:

standard 2658
miniature 8232
full screen 2408

Does anyone know what these numbers mean?

To answer 4mula1:

I tried installing the updated suite, but not the MPM. I will try it with the MPM.

Thank you guys for your information. At the present I have two versions of WinXP, SP1 and SP2, on my computer. If 4mula1's MPM solution works, I will need only one.

Those numbers are an estimate of how many pictures you can store.

It took me a little while to figure my contacts (I only just got it done in the last few days).

I installed activesync to get my contacts off my old PDA onto outlook; I'm running XP sp 1 and 2002. Then ran SDS, got it conigured and got everything over to the SX1 - I now have my LG Phenom sitting around gathering dust.

Best suggestion is to go to http://www.club-siemens.net/forum and ask there.

Thank you clonmult. I dumped my contacts onto Outlook from my Sony-Erickson telephone. At the office I have the Outlook contacts loaded from a Palm 505, by using the Palm/Outlook synchronization feature. I will try it tomorrow. I dread it because there are close to 950 contacts and I only wish to retain about 150 in my telephone. I may have to do a lot of erasing.

As to 4mula1's solution with MPM, it did not seem to work. I still get the - no telephone connected message. I noticed under tools that I have to configure the settings to USB port and SX1 telephone. I did not have to do that earlier with the Data Suite.

I will keep you posted.

That clonmult is able to synch his SX1 with Outlook with no problems, led me to look a bit more closely as to why I was having problems. I looked at my Outlook contacts and they were indeed shown as "last name, first name", but when I looked at the name set-up very deep in the program I realized that I had a mish mash of first and last name fields. I fixed the names and put them as they should correspond and yes, the SX1 program does synch with Outlook. One feature of the SX1 search engine is that if one selects a letter, lets say "r", all entries that start with "r", first and last names, are shown. In other programs only the last name entries would be shown

As to the Win XP/SP2 problem, that still persists. I did install the PMP and the update, but with no success.

Is mRouter running? With the SDS for SX1 mRouter was automatically installed and set to run. With MPM mRouter doesn't automatically start, which would lead to the no telephone connected message.

I knew I'd seen somewhere about name settings - had forgotten about the setup in outlook.

As for XP problems, I know that I've had other problems with XP (SP1) having migrated from Win 2K - problems with setup on my Sony Net MD and also with MobilePhoneTools on my old V525 - down to incompatibilities with some of the service packs. Unsure if SP2 would cause less or more problems. To be honest, has you are on the latest version of the Siemens software, the only possible suggestion is to contact Siemens directly.

Thank you 4mula1 and clonmult. I will try starting the mRouter when I get home today.

Started to write this last night and lost it during one of the called-for reboots.

No luck, I still cannot get the program to see the telephone. There are two mRouter files running in the applications column of task manager. One is mRouterconfig.exe and the other one is something like MROUTER~2.EXE. I am at the office and this is the best that I can remember. At the office XP1 computer though, I have mRouterConfig.exe and mRouterRuntime.exe, I do not believe that the latter file is running at home in my XP2 computer. At the home XP2 computer I ended the two processes and re-started them again. No luck.

I will e-mail Siemens Germany for information regarding the running of these programs in XP2.

If you open up mRouter (in your system tray) and then plug in your phone, do you see the USB port appear with a check mark in it? Maybe mRouter is picking it up, but not monitoring it.

Posted by: clonmult

Thats a good point - mRouter will say connecting ... and then connected.

Surprisingly my SX1 tends to connect better via infrared - via cable it has a bad habit of sticking at "Connecting" unless I reboot the phone.
