Originally posted by VictoryCube Ok, well i have a question, i dunno if anyone will read it but perhaps you could help. Ive been able to put mp3 ringers on my 8910, but when someone calls they are kinda late to ring compared to true midi ringers. is that just my phone being retarded? cause what will happen is it will vibrate for one ring, then the mp3 will kick in, but with true midi files it will vibrate and ring starting at the same time (earlier). Maybe my mp3's are a bad bitrate or somthing, i don't know. What programs do you guys use to encode mp3's from .wavs? and what are the parameters you use? Thx. |

I am not sure if pmd are just MP3 and MIDI files with the extension changed or if they are there own filetype. Another question is how to get an image/ringtone to show up without hex editing on a VirginMobile 8910. That download____.txt files that many people have mentioned with the 8900 don't exist on my 8910. And I tried using the get graphics option and all it does it throw you over to Virgin's WAP site. Also does anyone have a full list of ether 8910 #codes, Virgin #codes, both, or atleast a site that might have them? Thanks |

Originally posted by DownSouth Ok, I read posts all over this site (and thanks for all the info) but now I am stuck. I bought the cable, downloaded the drivers, downloaded and installed Bitpim, hooked it all up and with a bit of fumbling around I managed to download my pics off the phone to the pc. That alone made the cable worth the ebay price. NOW I am trying the next step and seem to be getting nowhere and since 90% of the information here pertains to Verison or Bellsouth I wanted a specific answer to how you get ring tones (in mp3 format) to the Alltel phone. Forgive me if its a repeat request but as a newb to all this phone info I just didnt see the answer elsewhere. [edit] i did manage to save the mp3 as 48kbps at 22050 freq with a file size of 29k...this is just a 4 sec mp3 that my wife wants on her phone so i was testing my phone first. I did not change it to mid as I noticed several posts note that was not necessary. |

Originally posted by DownSouth Thanks for the quick reply Mau but thats the first place I went when I saw the link from here. The stuff there is for veriozon and bell not alltel.... hence my post. I am not able to get any further than looking into the phone and retrieving the pics my wife or I have taken. I can look into the file system and see the one app tone my wife dloaded from alltels service but I checked every song avail from the providers they have and there were none there either of us wanted. The posts here steered me in the right direction as the file setup (appearance) is very different on the phone that I have. At any rate, I found the pics (under BREW / Shared / Jpg). Once moved to my pc they showed up just as they should so I am very happy with that. Like I said the file system doesnt look the same as the info provided on your site so I don't know exactly what is where. I looked through all of the available files and no MA folder was present that I could find so I thought it better I ask before proceeding any more. I did convert the wav file she wanted to mp3 then renamed it 10.dat. I then saved the 10gcd file and changed it as you suggested on your site but there is no MA folder to drop it into. So any suggestions from here? |

I saw some ambiguous comments which suggested that doing anything with this phone is an easy way to screw up the firmware and make your phone unusable. I'm wondering if any brave people have found a foolproof way to not screw up this phone. Also, what tools would I need to do this? A data cable Software that's all I can see that I need, right? Links would be appreciated--thanks a lot for your time, guys. |

Her other main complaint is that the camera takes pictures while in her purse (the side button gets pushed). Is ther any way to stop this from happening without locking the keypad?? Thanks, Dave. |

Why not just put it in key lock mode, you can still answer the phone if it rings, the only hassle is you gotta wait 1 seconds for the phone to unlock to make calls

The phone is currently getting this really really weird error. It appears impossible to turn off. If the phone is open the screen is all white with the exception of this error message: otasp.c 0371300 000000000 if the phone is closed it just displays a white screen on the exterior lcd. either way it shows that screen about every 5 seconds. It appears perfectly timed. does anyone know what this means or what to do about it besides taking it in to a verizon store? I would really hate to do that as we live on an island and it is quite costly to go to the main land |

Press [menu] 7,4 then enter your password Press 6 Select "Yes" or "No" with the navigation key then press [OK]. That's all i have to offer, and it's a page from a manual, lol. But it worked for me once, haven't needed it again because i'm done 'xperimentin' with this thing. It rings, sings, and entertains as well as annoys....but time is money and i need it working, lol. |

I see that with the V7 (looking at eBay auctions) there is the same thing - cables with and without the little box. It would seem that "without" (like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5783317683&rd=1) is the best plan. Heck that one even charges your phone while it is connected to the USB port. I want to get to rummaging around this thing in bitpim... |

Just thinking out loud here (I don't have a USB cable for the V7 right now), but maybe one of the files you can grab with bitpim has the gateway config in it and you could hack it and copy it back?
I can tell by the errors that are coming back that the phone is 100% capable of doing the entire Internet, they are just blocking most URL's at their WAP gateway. The V7 I'm playing with has a "go to URL" option in the browser menu, but you get a 403 Forbidden for any URL's that aren't part of VM. If the gateway could be changed.......... Anyway, sorry if this is a sore dead subject, but I just thought I'd see if anyone has already tried this route before I waste a bunch of time on it. |
