Hi, I read through this whole thread... this phone sounds so stable and reliable. Particularily my phone provided by Virgin Mobile with the superior crippled firmware.

Anyways is there anyway to access the GPS location? I know it wont give me turn by turn directions (i wish) but its an amusing thing to know.

Right now, I know if you enter ##GPS1 it gives a enter SPC code... so maybe thats not it.

Posted by: Kreet

That's it, or the only way to access it right now since I don't know of any brew apps that will. Do ##GPS1, the SPC code is usually 000000 (six zeroes), if it isn't on your phone, you can find your SPC code in a file on the phone with a hex editor (don't remember which one offhand).
Though, this won't actually give you any useful information unless it has been activated to acquire a reading. To do this, try dialing 922, which is (usually) the emergency test number for most cell providers, and stay on the line for 5 to 10 seconds. In my area, I hear a radio station when I call this number. After you hang up, run the GPS test app (##GPS1), and check the results. It might not be very accurate if it couldnt get very good reception, but I did get it to track down my house perfectly (which has 5 bars of reception all the time).

Posted by: TakenAback

Has anyone specifically identified the type of external antenna jack is on the back of the phone?

Posted by: vroc300

I had to replace my 8910 earlier this week, and had my wife's phone get the software updated. Now, bitpim no longer works. Goes to File system, Retrieving, and just hangs. I don't know if Verizon is now blocking or what, just thought I'd pass it along.

Posted by: Scottee

I've searched all over and can't find any info on this. I have some mp3's on my VZW 8910 that I use for the ringer. I just did this this past weekend. I set one of the mp3's to my ringer, and it plays fine. Only, the problem is, for some callers, it plays the mp3, and for some calls it just plays this wimpy beeping sound that's not even one of the possible ringtones. And there's no rhyme or reason for who the mp3 works for, and who it doesn't. Every contact was set to the default ringer. I tried to first call the Vox from my home phone, and it would do the beeping thing instead of the default. But if I manually change that specific contact to the mp3, then it works. But I don't want to have to change the setting for every single contact. Also, sometimes calls that are not in my contacts give the beeping instead of the mp3.

And I made sure the roaming ringer is set to play the regular ringer type.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've been looking into that out of pure curiousity, and have seen Verizon 8910 f/w's and flashers out there (like on mobile-files.com), but I've seen a few horror stories about phones being fried.

I'm still worried about writing stuff to the phone, so I wouldn't even think of flashing to Verizon except as a last resort before throwing out the phone.

Posted by: 8910user15650

you can't put a VM on Verizon...

VM uses GSM, Verizon uses CDMA...

AN EXAMPLE ONLY... NOT REAL FREQUENCY'S...

GSM is 900MHz, CDMA is 1000MHz...

So, unless you open your phone, and manually change your phones frequency, it can't be done... and no, I don't think any one would even know how to begin to do something like that...

A bit weary of typing in 922... I did LOTS of googling and found the Virgin Mobile 8910 SPC code 072096. For the sake of credit, http://www.mikekohn.net/rms_util.php is the source.

There are 3 options...
A start application (phone seems to connect and try to get stuff)
last location (lat 0 long 0 unknown stuff)
and options type thing. (many things like IP and stuff that I have no idea of purpose)

Virgine Mobile UK is GSM, Virgin Mobile USA is CDMA, so that doesn't apply here.

However, from a post on another board, it would seem attempts have been made at a flash without success diue to hardware differences between the pnones. (Caps, chips etc)

Incidentally, can someone post the FCC ID for a Verizon 8910? (Bell and others too if you have it)

Posted by: Kreet

Model No: CDM-8910
Provider: Verizon
FCC ID: PP4TX-110CA

How's that?

Posted by: TakenAback

Excellent.

The Virgin 8910 FCC ID is PP4TX-110C

So...here we go:

Verizon 8910 Internal Photos:

https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/...tive_or_pdf=pdf

Virgin Mobile 8910 Internal Photos:

https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/...tive_or_pdf=pdf

Wow....there are signifigant differences between the two. It would be quite a bit of fine soldering at the least, to make it compatible.

Those are Acrobat PDF's, so make sure you have at least a reader.

To view other stuff about each phone, input the ID's into https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/...nericSearch.cfm with the first 3 characters in the first field, and the rest in the second. Choose details for each bandwidth approval to see tests etc. (although the internal pictures will usually be the same despite frequencies listed seperately)

Actually VM USA is on CDMA. Maybe you're thinking of VM Europe, that uses GSM.

WRONG!!!! THEY ARE BOTH CDMA

Posted by: 8910user15650

If they are both CDMA, true CDMA, then all you would have to do is contact Verizon, tell them the ESN of your Virgin Mobile 8910, and it will work, minus the GetItNow feature

If the VM8910 is NOT CDMA, then it will not work, unless you change the frequency of the phone...

oh, and metropcsboy1215, you don't have to yell, the last 3 people said the same thing as you...

**EDIT**
After looking at the PDF's posted above... the VM8910 dosen't even use the Qalcomm chipset, so it is NOT a CDMA phone, and WILL NOT WORK ON VERIZON... it is most likely a FDMA phone running on GSM frequencys...

http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/...13652&langId=-1

Audiovox says the Virgin 8910 is CDMA, and I believe them.

As for the chipset, the FCC pictures of the Verizon 8910 show a branded Qualcomm chip as you saw, but you did not see that the chipset in the Virgin 8910 isn't a Qualcomm, as it's obscured by what looks to be a rubber heatsink. It still might be a Qualcomm.

Edit: The Audiovox link above says the Virgin 8910 has the "MSM6050 Chipset" Now go take a look at the Qualcomm chip in the Verizon 8910.

Can you tell me who else makes the MSM6050?

Can anyone post their Bell Mobility and Alltell 8910 FCC IDs?

Thanks

Posted by: thebulge

I was wondering if any of you have the problem of your screen lights(outside and inside) turning on while the phone is off. B/c the other day i noticed mine doing that and is there anyway to fix it?

yes...the 8910 is the same thing as an 8610 only that the 8910 has a camera, and it flips open slightly larger. as of my knowledge, virgin mobile is the only carrier for the 8610..

Bell CDM-8910:
FCC ID: PP4TX-110C

Posted by: chaseishot

i ordered a usb cable on ebay last night...

i found this website this morning...

i read every single post in here, and i have seen a few times that people mention when setting up your phone with bitpim, you have to set the com port the same as your modem....

i dont have a modem...

im using dsl, and i took my modem out months ago and sold it...

i havent even received the cable in the mail yet, but im just worried that it might not work for me...

is there another setting i can use?

That happenes to be the same as the Virgin Mobile, but I don't think it's the same pcb.

I happened to notice some variations between older pictures (from earlier submissions of the phone to the FCC) of PP4TX-110C and the most current pictures.

In fact, the older pictures of the PP4TX-110C are the same as the PP4TX-110CA. (The Verizon 8910)

It's likely the Bell has the older PCB like the Verizon, and that the Virgin has the most recent revision, albeit a different configuration.

Don't worry, I don't think you'll have a problem. You should be able to see which COM port is being assigned in Device Manager.

When you install the drivers, your phone will be seen as a modem. Crutial Packet Service... with that you can send faxes (haven't been able to recive yet...) use the internet (takes minutes from your plan) when your DSL goes out, and of course send and get files from your phone. If your worried about COM ports, and not too nerdy, try getting QPST... when you load it, it'll see your phone, and configure itself, no need for messing with COM ports, or other settings.

Also, I found this rather cool:

Adding a few links I haven't seen here...

Verizon's 8910 Interactive User Guide (Flash Based):

http://www.verizonwireless.com/mult..._8910/main.html

Worth reading through, even if your 8910 isn't on Verizon. It includes info on changing the banner too.

Verizon 8910 Manual:

More or less the same as the other 8910 manuals, but with a cooler cover.

I dont see such a big difference. The main difference i saw between the two was the VZW one was showed with the flex cable and had the Qualacomm lables all over.

I bet you any amount of money, theres a way to get a VM 8910 on Vzw.(change the firmware)

Someone try this. Put a non-oem faceplate on the VM 8910. goto a verizon store that flashes phones. ask them to do a firmware upgrade on your phone. when you get home, you can put the phone on your existing verizon account, or creat a new post paid or pre-paid account. Im 99.9% sure this will work

I hate to burst your bubble (It was my bubble once too), but look at the pictures again....closely. There are several caps in alternate positions from one phone to another.

It's not that I noticed it myself, it was brought to my attention from someone who had some knowledge of attempts to flash this phone to Verizon. Apparently you can flash the phone with Verizon firmware, but the phone won't connect to the network because of the caps being in the wrong position.

It's not impossible to move the caps, but is it really worth the effort?

Posted by: Tech_Junkie

Who tried to flash it???? I dont think that those caps mean anything(correct me if I'm wrong) There both CDMA phones with the same Qualacomm 3G Chips inside. Both audiovox CDM8910...I would try to switch it over myself, but I sold both my VM 8910 and my VZW8910

The pmd filetype is a CMX file (Compact Media eXtensions), created using CMX Studio, the Qualcomm authoring tool. The pmd can contain images, text, midi music, and wav audio at 8kHz sample rate.

hello everyone!

i finally got my cable in the mail...

i have gotten the phone to work a few times...

but im seeming to have more trouble than not...

everytime i unplug the phone from the cord...

i have reinstall all the drivers...

this probably shouldn't be the case...

any ideas?!?!

what bitpim should i use?

or are there any other programs i should know about?!

Posted by: awdark

Well if it worked a few times then you got it right already
Curitel drivers right?
Have you tried Qpst? Some people have more luck with that.

Posted by: TakenAback

If you move the cable from one USB jack to another, the drivers will reinstall, but I think only once per jack.

Posted by: Snowmaker

OK, newbie here. I just updated my phone through Verizon and the CDM8910 is the free model I chose. I don't even have the thing yet, but just wanted to get some info so I started reading this thread and am now even more confused. Cell phones have changed so much since my last one its like a whole different world.

My two main issues are going to be:
1. How to obtain/install ringtones I want
2. How to get pictures off the phone.

I was looking at the list on ebay from that one seller mentioned. What is the best package that I should get (and how is he selling those so cheap)???

http://search.ebay.com/cdm8910_W0QQ...assZ itrimming

Posted by: TakenAback

He isn't.

Everyone should know by now that virtually all sale prices are fraudulent, and that the actual price is recouped in the shipping cost.

That doesn't man you aren't getting the best deal around (look at eforcity on eBay too), it's just not as cheap as you think.

Look here for more info on 8910 cables:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=696147

Posted by: Snowmaker

Well, can someone just tell me basically what I need to know/have/do to get ringtones onto my phone and pictures off of my phone.

That's all I'm concerened with right now. Also, where is a good place to get ringtones (mp3 or midi)?

Posted by: TakenAback

Buy a cable (look at that thread link above), download drivers (Curitel), and download a program (BitPim, QPST, Brewsky etc).

Posted by: Snowmaker

That link is too confusing. I've downloaded Bitpim and the driver pointed out in that thread, now exactly what cable do I want for primarily just transferring ringtones from my computer and pictures from my camera? Anyone?

That thread states what has worked for what so far. Take another look.

k im about to give up ive must have worked for 8+ hours to get bitpim to detect my phone ive exausted my skills and im here in hopes that one of you cell phone guru's can help me out

bit pim wont detect my phone
QPST will detect my phone
pcsync wont detect my phone

ive set it to com3 and bitpim finds the port available but it wont detect the phone. i dont have the manuals to my phone so possibly do i ahve to set my phone to work with my computer? ive dont ##7678 and set it to USB DIAG. im in total loss if someone wants to contact me on msn at kryptonics69@hotmail.com and help me resolve this i will love you for ever!!!

Posted by: TakenAback

You can't just set it to a random COM port. Once you've installed the driivers (then reboot) and connect the phone, the phone will appear in device manager.

It usually uses the COM ports 4 or 5, but if you already use those, it will use or create others.

Look in device manager, under modems, to see what port Curitel Packet Service uses, and try that.

If that doesn't work, try under ports and see what Curitel Packet Service Diagnostic Serial port uses, and try that.

Posted by: krylon72

yeah ive tried all that

Posted by: TakenAback

Which model phone and carrier do you have again?

Posted by: krylon72

bell mobility and the audiovox 8910

Posted by: TakenAback

Hmm, it should work.

Just to be clear...

A. You turn on the phone.
B. You plug the phone in.
C. The USB connection bell goes off in XP (assuming you have XP)
D. The phone appears enabled in device manager
E. You start Bitpim
F. You go to settings, then com port browse, and see Curitel Packet Service and Curitel Packet Service Diagnostic Serial Port as available ports
G. You choose Curitel Packet Service (or the latter)
H. You click the Filesystem tab
I. You expand the tree (click the +)
J. You wait about 20 seconds

and you still don't see anything....

Then you have a problem I can't diagnose. At that point I'd say it's the USB port, the drivers for the USB port, the cable, or the phone.

As for QPST...

A. You turn on the phone.
B. You plug the phone in.
C. The USB connection bell goes off in XP (assuming you have XP)
D. The phone appears enabled in device manager
C. You start EFS Explorer
D. Phone Selection appears
E. A listing appears with a phone number
F. You enter your SPC and click (with the mouse) OK.

Two things here...Hitting enter doesn't work for me. You may also have to enter the SPC and click ok a second time if the "connecting" box doesn't appear.

If the listing doesn't appear, then it's one of the cable/usb/phone issues, but if it's just that you don't have a SPC then it's not QPST's fault. You have to get your SPC (or is it really the MSL?) via the nvm backup method with Bitpim, or find it posted somewhere.

If you do, post it for the next guy with a Bell 8910.

That's really all I can think of right now....good luck.

Posted by: 8910user15650

my QPST only works when I double click my SPC (step F)... if I hit OK (mouse or space/enter) it doesn't connect... try double clicking your phone in the listing as well...

Posted by: UMZJ

I would like to know if you can upload and download phone book and calendar to an Audiovox 8910 (verizon). What program can you use? I use QPST for ringtones and pictures. Thanks all in advance, I'm new to all this technology

Due to some stupidity on my part, my cell phone was lost in some bushes for some time. Once I found it (yes it rained a few times) I tried charging it and turning it on. All I get is a repeating message that says "Please wait, User data is being restore....[1]". I have read several threads that have similar problem but with code 7 instead of 1 and due to tampering with data cables. I have never tried to use a data cable. I simply want my phone to work again. Is there anything I can do other than try to exchange it?

Thank you in advance.

Posted by: shreky

Hi, I have managed to get everything pretty much setup with datacable and the rest. The only problem which is a major one is that I can't get the mp3 ring tone to display on my audiovox 8910 phone. I did as the tutorials said which was to right click on the ringer folder and select new file. It uploaded the file but when i check on my phone whether restarted or not it does now show in media gallery. I have read something about click Axcess application or something like that but i do not see that feature. I am using a metro pcs audiovox 8910. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by: 8910user15650

Go to AXCESS... go ONTO THE NETWORK... pretend your going to buy an app... go ALL THE WAY TO THE PURCHACE SCREEN... when it askes you if you sure you want to buy the app (any one... it don't matter) hit END to get back to your HOME SCREEN... then go to your Media Gallery, and it will be there...

Posted by: shreky

Thank you very much works great. I am wondering if you could help me with something else. The free wap. I got two working ips and set everything up based on tutorials and what someone pm'd me. I click to connect to the web and it connected but then it says sending.... then after a couple seconds it says. Error:Connection to server lost . Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

sooooo my phone suddenly decided that it doesnt want to do anything except vibrate... its stuck on vibrate... it wont get off of it...

any suggestions other than taking it back to the store...

has this happened to anyone else?

Posted by: 8910user15650

shreky, all the major carriers are catching on the the free WAP... they are disabling the IP address of your phone unless you sign up, so no, free WAP isn't going to be possiable anymore, sorry...

chaseishot, reboot your phone... turn it off, then back on... make sure your volume is set to 5, not high+vibe... if it still vibes, then you'll have to take it back.

Posted by: arkboy1

Is it possible you have etiquette mode on? try raising the volume of your phone and pushing and holding the * button.

My husband is so pissed that I can use bitpim easily with my lg8000 and cannot for the life of me get the computer to even know his phone is there with bitpim or QPST. It will however, use the phone as a modem. His is the 8910 through Verizon. He's not had the phone a year yet. Only since February.
I have the cable and the Curitel drivers...

I found some step by step instructions and I will attempt it once again, but it is starting to irritate me too.

Posted by: TakenAback

That phone should work with BitPim and QPST.

If the phone is showing up in device manager as enabled, the COM ports should be shown (Usually 4 or 5), but since you are using 2 different phones with different drivers, the COM ports will probably be different.

Just make sure to change the port BitPim is looking at.

I've seen this question quite a bis and wanted to see if anyone else had a better answer before I posted this. I had the same problem with my phone, here is what I finally did to fix it, I just restricted the camera setting. Now when the button is pushed, it asks me to put in my code first, which is no problem, and saves the battery. Not disables, but better than nothing.

Press Menu
Press 7 for settings
press 4 for security
Type in you code (last 4 of your phone # if Verizon and you haven't changed it)
Press 2 to restrict
Press 3 for camera
arrow down to select restrict.
Press OK, and back out to main menu

You can still use your camera, you just need to type in your security code to get into the camera menu system.

Hope this helps

so i got a 8910 the connector peice that the charger plugs into broke off and was loose inside so i unscrewed the fone and soildered it in , broke off 3 times so after that i bought a 8910 w/o the camera i think it;s a 8615 and would charge that and swap the battery off it onto my 8910,. but after a week of doing that my 8910's green charger indicator light turned on and stayed on ( the light that turns red when charging and turns green when done charging) and i can recive and make calls but can not talk nor does the fone make any noise besides vibrating, but after takin the battery out for 12 hours and putting it back in the fone could make calls and i could talk on it, but once the fone was on for more then 30 min the green light would come back on , "apprently hands free mode was activated and couldn't be turned off, after about a week of this i threw my fone into a wall and the connecting strip to the fone and screen tore or came apart, so now the screen doesn't turn on BUT the fone still turns on and the keypad still lights up, so i am wondering if i can get my #'s off the fone by buyin a USB cord in vancouver somewere, i was warned about audiovox fones, i guess next time i'll listen

Posted by: TakenAback

Wow....not how I'd handle that.

Posted by: Liam_berezowsky

yah not my finest moment, so do they sell the usb cord in town or were do i get it and how much does it cost?

Posted by: TakenAback

$8-$10 off eBay. (Generic) $20 or so at Radio Shack. (Futuredial brand)

I read somewhere in this thread somewhere that someone said that you can't activate a VM 8910 on VZW. WRONG!!!! YOu most certainly can, it makes no difference. Theres just a slight difference is the sodded caps which does absolutely nothing to the phone its self. Just makes the inside look prettier. I took my old VM flasher and gave it to a friend. His cousin works at a VZW store. We had him flash the phoen with the VZW software and activate it on his account..and guess what, IT WORKED!!

Well, I've heard of at least 2 people who also did the flash, and found it couldn't connect to the network.

Don't get me wrong, it's welcome news if a VM 8910 can be activated on VZ with full service, but you're the first I've heard of that has done it. Others have just got the firmware on the phone.

As far as the caps go, someone with more experience in cell flashing than I, stated the placement was crucial, and you can clearly see a difference in the FCC photos between the PCB revisions. If VZ f/w works on a VM 8910, then that's fantastic, but I doubt the changes are purely cosmetic. Most people don't open their phones to see how pretty they are.

Could you take some pictures of the Flasher LCD while browsing a current news WAP site or something? I think that would put this matter to rest.

In case anyone is interested, I ran across the MSM6050 chipset specs:

what does that have to do with the difference in the flasher and the VZW8910 guts. I'm telling you, its just a cosmetic difference. When I get the pictures, I will prove, but until let me explain. At one point in my life, I had two gameboy colors. Onebeing mine, and one being my sisters. They were both the same see through color. Mine was purchsed4 months before hers was. Eventually, my speaker died on the gameboy color, so I disected my sisters and mine and took her speaker and put it in mine. When they were both open, I could see sevrel differences in the motherboards. Does it mean the newer version wasn't a gameboy color??? no. still played the same games, just as good as the old one. Think of that in comparrasent to the VZW8910 and the VM8910. There the same phone. I would also appreciate it iif two people would be kind enoughf to take pictures of the back pannels of their mother boards. I Need one VZW and One VM.

It doesn't. It had nothing to do with our earlier conversation. I'm just posting a link I ran across for those who might be interested in the chipset.

I doubt that, but not your claim that you had a successful flash. I really hope you're right, because it would be great to have that option.

That's very common. I have another example too. I have 2 DVD players with the same model number, yet an entirely different internal PCB and loading mechanism. Both meet the spec the manufacturer wanted, but were actually produced by different OEM manufacturers. Both seemed identical, but I was happy to discover one had more functionality that was disabled to bring it down to spec. I could hack it and add a HD if I wanted to.

Pretty much, but one may have some functionality disabled by the different configuration. From what you say, it would seem a successful flash and activation on Verizon isn't one of them. But a Verizon 8910 can be used as a modem, and the VM one can't. That could be a firmware limitation, but it could very well be due to the different PCB configuration. Then again it may be something else. I just don't know, but I'd think there's a difference beyond appearance.

Scroll back a few pages in this thread to the posts you cited earlier, and you'll see the FCC links that have the photos you're asking for. If, however, you're asking people to take a picture of the pcb under the white keypad overlay, then I'm not sure that can be done without damage.

Posted by: AgeNt B

actually, the modem is a software militation on the VM8910, I know that for a fact. The FCC pictures can just be another cosmetic difference. I looked really closely at them, it dosen't have to do with anything. A CDMA phone will work on any CDMA network that will accept that model number. Thats a fact. btw, i'm not trolling, just sayin what I know.

That's terrible news, but not surprising.

It's no real bone of contention, but the reason I believe that it isn't purely cosmetic, is because the cap positions on each revision of the board are possible on the other. That and the claims from others that the positions are significant, led me to believe what I do.

As far as activation goes, if Verizon activates the 8910VM ESN it should work, but apparently it didn't work for some.

I never thought you were being a troll. I'm really excited by your news, and want to see those pictures. I'm really looking forward to it.

Those caps dont do crap!!! A CDMA phone is a CDMA phone and theres nothing you can do to change that. If VM is CDMA and VZW is CDMA, the phones are compatable! Now you not going to beleive this, cause if I were you I wouldent beleive me either, thought this is the honest truth, my friend lost his damn phone.

I don't remember saying otherwise. I just said there's probably some signifigance to the difference, not that it made one totally incompatible with CDMA networks.

Well, that's pretty unfortunate, and somewhat ironic to boot.

If you, or your friend, gets another Flasher, and decides to flash to Verizon, we'd welcome photos of it with a call in progress or WAP browsing etc.

I hope you understand why most of us will consider the jury to be out on this until then.

yeayea, you guys can debate me from now on since my prof is probably in a hundret pieces right now, I think hes just going to buy an 8910 from Vzw with the Vzw as the sticker brand. Oh well

He might as well go with a 8915, if Verizon has those out yet.

Amazingly, I have read all 19 pages of this thread and almost all the links within. However, I cannot figure this out.

At one time, I was able to use BitPim with my phone and it was good. The phone one day died and I had it replaced with the same model of phone (as far as I can tell). Now, Windows XP no longer recognized the phone and I cannot get it further than "unknown USB device". I downloaded the Curitel drivers v4.22, PC Sync for the TX-115C, and Futuredial drivers and nothing seems works. I then did it all on a fresh computer that's never touched a cell phone and I still get nothing.

I have a CMD8910-VW phone (Verizon Wireless.) These are the steps I follow:

1. Plugged in phone, which is off.
2. "Unknown USB device" pops up
3. I go to "update driver" and I point it to the folder that I threw the Curitel drivers in
4. It says "no drivers found for this device".

I repeat the steps for all drivers I've tried. I read somewhere that you have to hit ##7678 and change the phone to USB DIAG to get it to work. I tried that, but you have to have the phone on. Didn't work. Like I said, this was working at one time. What am I doing wrong? I'm no idiot, but I'm probably missing somethign simple. Thank you!

Just so everyone knows the Virgin Mobile car charger for the Virgin Mobile 8910 with fry the Verizon 8910, I bought it yesterday and plugged it in and now my phone won't start and I have to wait for another one from Verizon. Just so you know.

Posted by: TakenAback

Don't make generalizations. You probably just had a bad one. I know, because I got a bad charger with my Flasher.

To my knowledge, the charger for the Virgin Flasher will work with the Verizon AVX 8910.

Posted by: AgeNt B

TakenAback, my friend bought another flasher. hes going into the store sometime next week to have this one flashed. Cross your fingers that it will work again.

Fingers crossed.

Newby here and i got problems.

I recently purchased a Data Cable with the drivers and a ringtone cd. It uses the software PCSync. The drivers that came on the install disk are Curitel. Now my problem is this.

I can get the 8910 (verizon) to connect to PCSync-TX95c (version cable came with). But this version has no tabs or buttons for ringtones or pix. Just the phone book and messages. I have tried other versions of the Curitel software and all I get is :unable to connect to phone".

I have also tried Bitpim, FutureDial, as well as a few others. I cannot get my phone to connect to them. What are my options? What do I need to download so that i can add ringtones and pix? I take alot of pix of my son on my phone and would love to be able to get them off of it. I don't use the internet from my phone, nor do i have a text message plan. Figured why spend a monthly fee when i could do it this way, but since this way isnt working, i may go that route it no one can give me any help.

I would appreciate email responses, due to the fact that this is a HUGE thread and really hate trying to sift thru the unneeded info looking for viable info. My email is rustyking3 at gmail.com. I would greatly appreciate any help or any light someone canshed on my situation.

Thanks

That sounds logical, doesn't it? The thing is, a file or two might contain ESN specific info, which might not match up with the new hardware. I say backup the tree, and only overwrite the relevant stuff. (images, tones. messages/calendar etc)

Firstly, you have the wrong version of PC Sync. The version appropriate for the TX-115C (8910) is here:

http://www.curitel.com/UploadDATA/m...X115CPCSync.zip

You, and everyone else should know that the CD-Rs bundled with the cables are from people downloading the stuff off the same site, and mass burning the discs. The CD-R is basically useless, as software versions are either incorrect, or outdated by the time the customer gets the product.

Also, there are different versions of the TX-115C/8910 firmware, and not all are 100% compatible with PC Sync. I have the Virgin Flasher, and I have the same limitations with it.

Now, as for this thread, and others in this forum, you had better start reading, because all your questions have been asked an answered already many times over. I won't speak for everyone, but a lot of the threads here are on point and specific, with solutions.

In this instance though, you can resolve the BitPim problem by specifying the COM port under Edit/Settings/COM Port/Browse, and choosing "Curitel Packet Service" as the COM port. Usually this is COM4.

Needless to say, you do this after connecting the phone. If you still run into the problem try entering ##7678 (USB Diagnostic Mode) into the phone before connecting it to the PC.

That should work, but you should also consider getting QPST, the alternative to BitPim.

Posted by: Rusty38

Thanks for the reply. The new software seems to work ok. I have yet to figure out how to use it for pix, but that will come in time. Does this software support ringtones?

Posted by: AgeNt B

Ok, during the flash, his battery died and it fried the phone. I was there. Poor 8910. Anyone know how to revive it. its not powering on or responding to any keypresses.

Posted by: TakenAback

Doubtful.

If there were any chance at all, it would require a JTAG flash of the phone, requiring a JTAG application, and a JTAG cable (Different than the USB type).

Posted by: AgeNt B

okay...now where the hell is he suppose to get all this crap

Posted by: TakenAback

You can Google for JTAG applications, but the cable is an issue. When last I checked, the JTAG pinout for the 8910 is unknown, and you need to know it in order to create a compatible JTAG cable.

From this point on, mobile-files.com would be a better resource for that kind of project.

Sorry I missed your last reply.

As I said, PC Sync ringtone and image transfer/edit functionality may not be available for your model. To accomplish this, you may need to use BitPim or QPST in filesystem mode, and overwrite current files.

Posted by: AgeNt B

Ok TakenAback, this is the news you have been waiting for. We found the damn phone.(the old one) It was under his couch. It still powers on, thought the screen is a little messed up. Probably from being sat on. If you look closely at the phone, the edges of the screen are pushed in and look weird.(dosent look half bad on camera) Here you go.

Ill take some more pics later. I took this one quick with my phone because I had to leave to go to an appointment. Next time i see him, ill get some pics of it makeing a call and going on mobile web. i think hes going to trade the one that died in the flash in for a new one. If you bend the screen abck just a little bit, the screen turns white and the caller id goes out.

Posted by: TakenAback

Very promising!

More and bigger pics would be cool, not to mention one from a distance showing the Flasher faceplate a bit.

As for the cutout, that sounds like a loose ribbon cable.

Posted by: 8910user15650

that pic looks just like a VZW phone... no distingushing marks to say which one it is... and you could always put VERIZON WIRELESS as the banner... would have to see the circut board to tell what phone it really is...

I know, but I didn't want to be "Ned Negative", so let's give him a shot.

Ok firs of all, the Verizon 8910 says Verizon on the top and his says Audiovox. The Virgin mobile firmware dosent include the wallpaper he had also. Like I said, next time I get a chance to come back over to his place, ill take a bunch of pics, but until then, youll have to beleive me.

I can't see the Audiovox logo in the picture. At the specific angle that photo was taken at, it's not possible to tell either way.

Of course not, but it can be uploaded to another phone.

I am giving you the benefit of the doubt. I'd like nothing more than for you to be proved right.

Posted by: AgeNt B

Ok, since im trying to prove myself right, why dont you go take some pics of some phones that were not able to make calls?

Posted by: TakenAback

No need. That's been reported more than once. You, however, seem to be the only one claiming otherwise. The burden of proof is on your end.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying it isn't true, just that I'd like to see it for myself. We all would.

Posted by: 8910user15650

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean to say that he WAS lying... just pointing out the fact that it COULD be fake...

All the proof so far was a TINY little picture of a screen... as for the Verizon logo and Audiovox logo on the silver around the screen, all you have to do is buy a non-OEM faceplate and put it on... they sell them at the mall I work at... $15... and after zooming in on the image, neither the Audiovox nor Verizon, nor any other logo is present on the silver frameing....

Second, yes, you could easily upload the image that was displayed, not really hard... there are about 50 guides here that tell you how... but after looking at it in Photoshop, your missing the GPS icon, and the 1X icon is not a 1X icon...

I'm sorry, but untill some better photos are taken, I'll still be a skeptic... but if it turns out to be true, hey, I'll back you all the way...

Posted by: AgeNt B

what do you mean theres no GPS icon and the IX icon isnt a 1X icon? He said hes going to email me a pic of it showing the front of the phone while someone was calling it

Posted by: 8910user15650

yes, where the 1X icon should be... that's not a 1X icon... it's something else... maybe a roaming indicator?

Posted by: TakenAback

8910user15650 actually has a AVX 8910, so he, moreso than I, would know what a Verizon version screen should show.

Hrmm, what type of faceplate do you mean? I agree with you about what's visible in the photo, but a faceplate would be on the other side of the phone.

A new housing, however....was that what you meant?

sorry, I meant housing... my bad...

but back onto help with the 8910...

anyone know a way to uplaod to it faster? I can only get about 3-6kbps (kilobytes) on a good day... using BitPim...

Yea, just did, got me up from 3068bytes/sec to 4594bytes/sec...

wish there were some way to get it to go faster...

When you assume....

Yea, I knew about that... just slipped my mind... but only got a 1k/sec speed up... not really that much, but when your putting 300-600k songs on your phone, that does help a little, lol

anyone ever get speeds higer than 4k up on the 8910?

I bought a USB cable for my 8910 (8919vm with virgin as carrier, if it's relevant) for the puropse of downloading the images I have on the phone to my PC. I bought the thing on ebay without software, but the person was thoughtful enough to provide a link to download PC Synch from Curitel.

Trouble is, I don't know what the heck this software is for. It doesn't create any icons on the desktop, start bar, system tray, or quicklaunch. the directory it installs to has no executables except for the uninstall. I can't access the phone as if it were a usb drive, so there's really not a whole lot of synching going on here.
I really get the impression I'm forgetting something.

Was this just for driver support?

I pocked up the sync software for the tx115c as suggested in someone else's post, but it doesn't connect . I also tried bitpim, but the help file explicitly states that the 8900 is unsupported. On initial setup, there's a dropdown menu for phone models, which my phone is not listed on. Logical, considering they state it's unsupported.

What the heck am I doing wrong, here?

Firstly, there's more than one version of PC Sync. The one appropriate for the 8910 is here:

http://www.curitel.com/UploadDATA/m...X115CPCSync.zip

It installs PC Sync, after installing the Curitel drivers first.

It sounds as if you might have just downloaded the drivers. PC Sync (TX115C) certainly does create a start menu group and desktop icons.

So I guess the earlier stuff was the drivers?

PC Sync doesn't offer full functionality for the Flasher, it will allow phonebook and calendar editing etc, but images and ringtones are blocked. (Probably by VM's request)

Make sure you have the phone connected and recognized in device manager before starting PC Sync. It should connect.

True, but that's their rating of most Curitel phones. The filesystems are a bit touchy. Still, I have a Flasher and have used BitPim and QPST without issue for some time. Then again, I'm the cautious type, and triple check the changes I make, before I make them.

They don't want flack for people screwing up their phones, so there's no 8900/8910/8912/ etc, so just choose "Other CDMA Phone". It will work.

I have a Audiovox CDM8910US thru U.S.Cellular and all I want is to backup/edit the phone book , add better ringtones and wallpaper. Tried Bitpim w/curitel usb driver and it did not work. Bitpim will not detect this phone no matter what I selected.

Curitel's TX-115C (8910) version of PC Sync contains the proper drivers:

yeah man, but not much you can do with that software except sync phone numbers and schedules with your PC's Outlook, or vice versa. Other features like editing images or even organizing SMS messages is not allowed for 8910.

Note that I said it contains the proper drivers.

Just use BitPim or QPST after the install.

Don't generalize. This particular version of PC Sync is specifically made for this model. The different carriers, however, have likely requested that their particular firmware block this functionality.

Posted by: 8910user15650

99% of the Vox8910's have the firmware blocked against PCSync uploading images/sounds... if you have a true unbranded 8910, it will allow you to upload images/sounds.

As for BitPim, I'll go over the settings once more...

Phone Model : OTHER CDMA PHONE
COM : what ever the hell port your phone is connected to

The camera button keeps getting hit while on my holster or by my jacket and kills my battery. Anyway of disabling the camera so this doesn't continue to happen?

Really??? That sucks. My 8910 allowed me to do all that stuff as wella s my friends. I guess we got off lucky.

With PC Sync? (What he was referring to)

In regards to PC Sync, you probably can't, but you can usually make all the changes you like, with BitPim or QPST. That is, unless you want to flash firmware, which would require CUPST or one of the 8910 PST's alone.

Posted by: Redoak

I just tried Bitpim again w/future dial usb driver and it started communicating with my phone ,but that is all it would do. The hour glass appeared and would not go away ,but the windows task manager says it was running not locked up or not responding. As for Qpst , how do you use it to change ringtones or wallpaper? I hate to keep bothering you people ,but your the only ones that have the answers. thanks, Redoak

Posted by: TakenAback

Forget about the Futuredial drivers. Make sure you install the Curitel ones.

As for QPST, you can edit the filesystem just like in BitPim. You can overwrite ringtones or wallpeper with files of the same name/size/dimension/filetype.

Posted by: Tokaygecko

Well, I'm back, and after dinking with all the installables, uninstalling and reinstalling, and all that jazz, I've got PC sync to work.

But it's a little screwy, probably due to the Virgin firmware. I can import my contacts, but it's screwy, everyone's name is in the comments field. Sounds and images are blocked.

Well, anyway, nothing new there from what I read on the forums.

My problem is that I can't seem to get either QPST or Bitpim to work for getting my images.

QPST doesn't recognize the fact I have my phone hooked up. I try for initial setup, but there's no phone listed
Bitpim does, but it gives me the choice of 2 COM ports to choose from: COM3 is listed as Curitel Packet Service, and COM 4 is listed as Curitel Packet service Diagnostic Serial Port. Setting up with either gives me an error whenever I try to view the file system. When I choose Get Phone Data, all the options are grayed out. This is the only way I can get a response out of the program.

So, I'm turning to the knowledeable people here, since you folks helped me with my last problem (which turned out to be the drivers I was told by the guy I got the cable from for my phone, were the wrong ones)

Thanks a bunch,

That's an issue with most versions of 8910 firmware. I assume OEM firmware wouldn't be blocked in that way.

COM3 is what you ought to use. (non-diagnostic)

Make sure you use the same COM port in QPST settings as you do in BitPim.

Ive got an Audiovox(Verizon) CDM 8910 and I'm trying to transfer my images from my phone to my computer with a USB cable and with it came the Curitel PC Sync Program to find out that it doesn't work with that unless you have the right threads or something but I have No Clue what I'm doing... If anyone knows how to help I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks.

how do you get into the usb dialog? i know its ##something, but forgot the numbers and cant find it anywhere in the forums.

Posted by: YukiLegend

I have read through this whole place, but I still can't seem to find answers to my problem. Or maybe I was too stupid to figure it out..

I just bought a USB cable, it didn't come with software but a url to go to: http://home.netvigator.com/~wjcorp9/dku5/ which has a place to download a driver. That seems to have done nothing for me.

I can't get my phone to connect with BitMip or PC Sync or anything. When I plug the cable in I just get my computer telling me it found new hardware. When I click on it, it wants a hardware update. Well when I try that..nothing really happens. When I tell it to get the hardware from a specific location, like I tell it to go to the Curitel folder with the Curitel Packet Service, my computer tells me that if I keep installing it it may mess up my computer now or eventually.

Has that ever happened to any of you? Should I just keep installing it, it seems to happen on every driver that I tell it to go to.

I think it's asking for a driver because when I go to Device Manager, under ports it has "Curitel Communication Inc." With a ! by it. When I go to properties the Driver Provider is unknown. Also when I go under modems, that one Curitel Packet Service isn't there..like I've seen its supposed to be on some of the 'tutorial' type things.

None of those websites where its supposed to explain how to get your phone connected to a program has worked for me. They won't load at all.

Can someone please help me? I am at a major loss right now.

I thought I was hitting something when I told it to install a driver until it told me it could mess up my computer...

I received a verizon 8910 from my brother last week as he was leaving the country. I decided to make it active on my account. He had removed everything from the phone except for about 20 pics. I then removed all the pics, ordered a cable, created wallpapers and uploaded them along with several new tones...by the way guys, I have never done any "phone work" before and I found everything I needed to know here.Thanx. Anyway after about a week of tweeking and testing, I was showing my wife the phone and some pics I had added and taken, well among my pics was a pic I had deleted a week ago with all the others, all at once. I had not seen it in any of the "programs" or on the phone since I said delete all. Any ideas on this...almost spooky, as it was a pic of my uncle who had passed away 5 months ago. My brother had visited him and took a pic. ooooooo

Posted by: 8910user15650

if you deleted them with BitPim/QPST, you only deleted the main file, the "thumbnail" may still be on your phone, and was shown...

if you take pic_#20, and that was dear ole dead uncle was #20, his thumbnail was still in the phone...

Did you install the drivers with PC Sync?

Not sure where you found it, but it is in the forums. I know I posted it several times myself.

You didn't mention installing PC Sync for the TX-115C That contains the appropriate drivers for the 8910.

Uninstall the phone, BitPim etc, and then install this:

http://www.curitel.com/UploadDATA/m...X115CPCSync.zip

Then install BitPim, QPST etc, and then connect the phone.

Just to reiterate, you should NEVER install the software that comes with the generic cables. They are burned by idiots who simply downloaded generic drivers off the net, and likely did so a long time ago.

In general, you most often will find the appropriate drivers on the manufacturers website. Although in the case of Audiovox, they aren't the manufacturer, just a distributor. Curitel, a division of Hyundai, manufactures them, and the software and drivers can be found on their site.

I had deleted all the pics before I had a cable.

Thank you so much for the help! I finally got my phone to connect to the programs. Seriously, thank you so much, it was driving me insane!

Now I only have a couple of more questions and I am sorry if I am repeating those that have already been answered. I did look over this place again just in cause but I didn't really see any pertaining how to do it exactly.

The main reason I bought my cable was to transfer my pictures off my phone onto my computer. I feel completely stupid because I have NO idea how to do that now that I'm connected. I looked trhough BitPim the most, but seriously, I have no idea what I'm doing in there. Especially in the Filesystem.

Also, I was looking at how to put wallpapers and ringtones on the phone. It says that it goes into the Brew/Shared or whatever? On my phone in Brew I have no shared folder type thing, but in the fylesystem on Bitmip I do? So any idea to that? Or once again do I have no idea what I am doing again?

Sorry, as you can tell I'm really new at this type of stuff. My head is buzzing around with all the information I've been reading, so once again I'm sorry if I asked something already answered.

Posted by: YukiLegend

Now I see that under BitPim under camera in the filesystems there should be photo? Where you can just right click and save your pictures? My camera in BitPim doesn't have a +

Any ideas?

Posted by: TakenAback

Firstly, not all 8910's have BREW. If yours does, then uploading ringers and wallpaper go into the relevant BREW folders. My 8910 doesn't have it, so I'd have to start out by overwriting ringers and images.

As for camera images, on a non-BREW 8910, the images are in a photo folder within the camera folder. Even on non-BREW 8910's there are variations, so it might not be exactly the same as what you have.

For an example of a Flasher filesystem, take a look here:

http://img487.imageshack.us/img487/...reenshot0xg.jpg

If you have no + next to camera, then it would seem there is no photo folder. Perhaps you didn't take any pictures yet? (maybe yours will be generated when you do)

If you have a BREW 8910, there may be a different camera save folder.

Posted by: YukiLegend

My phone does have BREW, when I go into it though all I have are 2 places I have downloaded from before, settings, help, and BREW to get into the catalog of different places you can download what you want. (ringtones, wallpapers, etc.) In BitPim I have the Shared folder under BREW, but I don't have that on my phone when I enter in there...so I don't know where to get my pictures that I put on my phone at.

My phone is BREW but like I said there is no + by camera, no photo folder. And yes, I have tons of photos from like a year ago and some now..thats why I wanted this cable to get them on my computer.

I like looked through everything in BitPim...but I don't see anything that has to do with my pictures.

Posted by: YukiLegend

Oh wow! I decided to hook up my phone and look through there again and I found where my picture were. In my BREW Jpeg folder. I can't believe I overlooked that!

Posted by: Zimmer602

I get this error message that says "Please Wait, user data is being restore....[4]" I've seen threads with a 1 and 7 instead of a 4 but they had to do with wires and stuff, I never do anything like that. I just forgot to put my phone on the charger one night, came back, plugged it in, walked away for 10 minutes, turned it on and theres that error message. I dont mod my phone or anything. Anybody know what this is, or if theres a way to fix without going to verizon?

It goes to the verizon screen, than shows a white background with black text with that error message for about 5 seconds, turns off and does it again, and it wont stop until i take the battery out. Also the green light comes on and doesnt go out till i take the battery out. I'm gonna let it do it all night long so maybe all the battery dies and i'll try turning it on tommorow after charging it fully. If anybody has any idea how to help, please tell me! Thanks

Posted by: TakenAback

You say you didn't make any changes to the filesystem with a cable? ("wires and stuff")

It sounds as if there could be some filesystem problem. More often than not, I hear people decribe this when they did a bad overwrite, but if you didn't, the charger might have caused some surge or something.

I'd think it might be fixable by being re-flashed with the same firmware, but that's only a guess. If it's hardware related, then it would have to be returned.

Posted by: Zimmer602

with the same firm ware? I dont know anything about phones, i just searched my error and saw this place had a bunch of people who knew what they were talking about and registered and posted

Posted by: TakenAback

Yes, it's possible re-flashing the phone with a fresh Verizon 8910 firmware file could solve the problem. You can find the firmware and flash tool on mobile-files.com, but you'll have to get a data cable to use it. ($8-$10 on eBay)

The drivers that are included in the kit should be ok, but you might want to install Curitel's (the phone manufacturer) PC Sync for that model.

You can get it here:

http://www.curitel.com/UploadDATA/m...X115CPCSync.zip

Once installed, you will have th
