Wow, away for a little while and the posts pile up.

Try asking on mobile-files.com in their Audiovox forum. Files are commonly attatched to threads there. However, the appropriate CcPsts for each model would likely not accept the new file. It might be possible to force it with a filename change, but I still have doubts. I'd imagine the only way, if it's possible at all, is via a JTAG cable/application.

Well....

If you still have them all, Hold them from the round ends and clean the flat ends with an alcohol soaked cloth (not a paper towel). If after drying, they are still sticky, insert them back into the screwwells. (Clean the screwwells with an alcohol dipped Q-tip first!)

If they still won't stick, go and get some stickers (I'd use something from the post office) and rub the flat ends (after cleaning them and the screwwells) very hard on the sticky side to gather up enough gum to become sticky again.

On the other hand you could visit a local Verizon cellphone retailer and examine the Audiovox demos...just examine them...that's all.

What he said.

By the way, did you, in fact, install the drivers included in the link I posted? (Sounds like those are the only ones you didn't try)

Posted by: tropicalazer

hmm thanks for the advice 8910user. When windows tries to bully me i generally dont listen as long as im vaguely sure it wont distroy my compy.

that said i already hit continue but AFTER installation the driver installer kept recognising new hardware and tried to install it nonstop. once i broke the popup loop the installer pooped out a "problem with installation" message.

ive also tried several of my USB ports (there are around 4 readily available ones on a sony vaio, tried em all, 2 on the front 2 in back) with no luck. could either my phone or USB cable be the problem? or is the software more often the problem?

does anyone have a link to futuredial software so i could try it?

Posted by: TakenAback

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but did you try the link I posted? PC Sync contains the most appropriate drivers in general, but if you're set on Futuredial:

http://www.futuredial.com/support/d...oxUSBDriver.zip

Posted by: tropicalazer

yeah i tried the link you posted. after downloading pcsync and the driver (same as the other 2 i tried thou it was in english, which did help somewhat) it came bundled with. at this point my compy doesnt have a problem so much with the driver (i think) as it does with the USB cable/port/hardware device.

as i said before the computer isnt recognizing the USB port and suggests i replug the cable or replace the hardware. I dont know if this is a self protection reaction from winXP/bad USB ports (its a new compy, havent tested em yet)/ or whatever.

ive tried most of the drivers (even thou i think theyre all the same) on most of the ports now and am following the directions on mau108's site. i might try to fool around with the programs now that ive installed the drivers around 100 times and see if any of it has had any effect. now that i think about it, it might be time to clean up all those driver installs as well.

if anyone has some advice id definately appreciate!

I wonder if the cable is damaged...

Posted by: lifeguard5

Hey guys! I know that this has been discussed over and over again, but I do need help. I have bought the audiovox cable software and cable for my 8910. I am able to download midis and photos to my phone. But, when I try to use Bitpim, it will not detect the phone. I have gone through all the steps of downloading all the needed files and drivers, changing the ports under the Settings tab and changing USB ports...etc....What do I need to do to get Bitpim to reconize my phone? Thanks for taking the time to read this and forgive me for beating a dead horse, but I really want those MP3 files on my phone!

Posted by: TakenAback

Try putting the phone into USB DIAG mode (if this has it). Type ##7678 on the keypad to get to the appropriate menu. Otherwise, you may need a different cable.

Posted by: s10blazerman4x4

It must be in USB diag mode and bitpim will never detect your 8910.You got to go into the filesystem tab then click the + sign there and it will show your root directory on your phone.Thats how i did mine and i got songs and what not.

It may be necessary on his, and yours, but it isn't necessary on all carrier variations of the 8910. I don't have to do it on mine.

Posted by: tropicalazer

im starting to wonder too, anyone out there know of a test for this (other than installing the drivers and bitpim, it got a big goose egg on that test).

maybe a diagnostic on an accessory site i havent seen?

Posted by: rancid

anyone noticed the 8910's battery not retaining it's charge well? I've had mine for less than a year and the batter starts to drain like mad when I talk on the phone. use it for like say....an hour and the battery goes from full charge to one bar. And this is throughout the day. I've charged my batter fully the day before too.

Anyone knows where to get an OEM replacement battery for cheap?

There's more generic than OEM, but you can still find some cheap ones on eBay.

Posted by: rancid

are the cheap ones worth it? works like the OEM? I'm just a bit leary about the non-OEM cell phone batteries....but I guess the same can be said with aftermarket chargers...they do the same thing.

Posted by: TakenAback

No, if I were you, I'd be leery about non-OEM chargers. Even more than batteries.

I'm a bit uncomfortable about using generic batteries too, though. I have a preference for OEM as well.

Posted by: tropicalazer

same problem myself. after losing a 8910 i bought a new one which is draining like mad. i was thinking about getting a replacement, even if it doesnt work ill look into getting a battery charger so i can charge one and switch off to the other the next day. as it stands now i get around 36 hours of stand by as long as i dont talk much or even think about using the picture ****.

any1 tried this and want to give me some adivce?

Posted by: rancid

tried everything man....i charge it over night. Have it on standby and talke for say 45mins and my battery goes bye bye. From full to 2 bars left.

i'm gonna get the battery from ebay i guess....give that a try. Better than paying for a new phone right now...which i can't really afford to do. Works out to be like 15 bucks for a battery and car charger. If you go across the border, you may find a deal on a package from a verizon kiosk since the 8910 is an older phone. They may have some batteries on sale for cheap.

Posted by: TakenAback

Yeah, there's also an extended life battery (OEM) which is also available in a aftermarket version. It's a bit thicker though, and causes most clamshell 8910 cases (like mine) not to fit:

http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/...13258&langId=-1

Here's a link to the original OEM battery:

http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/...13256&langId=-1

Then of course, there's those flashing batteries, but I think those drain faster than the standard version.

Posted by: 8910user15650

Concidering the specs on the phone, after a year, an hour or two of talk time is great!

Talk Time 180 minutes
Standby Time 140 hours

that's the NEW battery standard...

Remember that even though the battery is rechargeable, it won't hold the same charge after a year of chargeing and discharging... your battery performance will go down. Since NEW talktime is 3 hours, if your phone is still getting 2 hours after a year, I would think that is GREAT!! And remember, 2 bars is still a good charge... when you see 2 bars, ignore that... the first two bars go down VERY quickly... then the last two bars will stay for a while... it's been like that on my phone forever... I'll unplug my phone, and withing an hour (not talking) the first bar will be gone... then an hour later, the second bar will be gone... then 2 day's later, the third, and another day after that, it'll flash for about 3 hours, and then die... and this is all with TXTing and calling (my calls never last for more than 15 min)...

Relax about the battery... get a car charger if your worried about bat life...

Posted by: rancid

mine just drains rapidly...after an hour of talk time it goes down to one bar. I know what you mean by the battery not holding the charge as well as before. I completely understand that. But what really concerns me is that it goes down that quickly....which is a problem that I've not had with my previous phones....including the audiovox 8600.

Posted by: TakenAback

The battery could just be that close to the end.

Stupid question time...

I'm a Virgin Mobile user looking to add ringtones and wallpapers to my Flasher.

a.) I'm getting one of those ridiculous expensive USB cables -- straight, no box/bubble/whatever in the middle -- at clearance price. The Curitel drivers will work with that, right?
b.) Looking at mau's guide... Is adding polyphonic tones to a 8910-VM done the same as real-voice ringtones (i.e. mp3/wav), or is it a different process? I wouldn't mind using midi tones along with mp3 tones to conserve space.
c.) Is it possible to add wallpapers without using the free Virgin wallpapers to get my own pictures on the phone, or do I have to use only that method?

If it's the right type of cable, yeah.

They're different filetypes, but the process of adding them is the same, afaik.

You can use the Bitpim/Cable method.

Posted by: Magister

I made a post on the VMC section of the site, I have an audiovox 8615 but all applies to the 8910 too (ringtones, games, wallpapers)
here's the post
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=812170

with an eBay cable and bitpim, I successfully installed midi, qualcomm pure voice sound, games, applications, wallpapers, and even animation!

Posted by: maikeru

Yet another question.

BitPim is working fine, no hitch, but I notice that to add graphics, tones, etc. to a VM phone, you can't just pop them in with a .gcd file --there's that rms.db file in each of the directories.

Is it possible to simply amend the info for various graphics and tones to the rms.db file without corrupting it?

Posted by: devs

This has probably been addressed before, but I must have missed the post, so bear with me...

Anyone had any luck with retrieving photos from an Alltel 8910 using either BitPim or Brewsky? Neither one is "written" with the Alltel phone in mind, and I know the directory structure is slightly different, but I'm hoping to avoid having to upload all 110+ pictures from my wife's phone to her Online album when I dump her phone in favor of the KX-16 next week

Posted by: trolly

I've read all the topics in this forum, and also from cellphonehacks, and cannot find a fix to my problem. I am able to retrieve pictures from my phone fine with bitpim, pcsync works fine, but when i try to upload a music file via bitpim, I am unable to. i am with verizon, and am uploading in the appropriate brew folder ( user/sound/ringer ). i am also able to see it in the phone, under tones, but instead of a check mark, i see an x. i am able to download the file off of the filesystem to my pc, and able to play it back. it is an mp3 file, 30 seconds, encoded at 32kbps, and near 130kb in size. i've uninstalled the 8900 drivers that came with the disc, and gone with the 8910 drivers, and still no success. how can i proceed?

oh yeah, how do i get qpst to work? i browsed through how to earlier, but i can't find it now (and am too lazy). i try to get it via

Finding the UPC Code:

Load BITPIM, View Filesystem and browse to the following directory:

/nvm/nvm_0002 at address 0000070 we see the security code for the
phone, again plaintext, Below, you should see 2 six digit text number, the second set of 6 digits is
your SPC code.

but, from that file i can see no numbers within it. thanks!

How do i clear the call times and do a master clear or master reset on the audiovox 8910? PLEASE HELP!!!

Posted by: kuznia52105

Hello....can someone tell me what directory to save wallpapers too on a audiovox 8910???

I'm using BitPim and can't figure it out.

Also, how do I find my SPC for using QPST?

Thanks...

Posted by: nothernhorspowa

Trolly: After you upload a song to Ringer, go to Get It Now (GIN) and exit, when you leave this, it creates a file for the phone to "register" all new files on the phone with their proper areas. If this doesnt work, I cant help you. Thats what I had trouble with when we first started messing with the 8910.

okay i my wife has the upgraded vx8910 not the one with the clock but the other one and she just bought a usb data cable for it and failed to get the one that takes the cd is there still a way to download music/games/apps with the data cable she bought like iden webjal has for nextel ?

Posted by: will122k3

OMG i hooked my data cable from my samsung yh-820 into my new 8910. And to my extreme surprise it started charging! I honestly was just messing around with it and bam i got the red light indicating it was charging. This now leads me to try and put ringtones onto the phone!!

I can't wait, but i rly dont want to mess anything up with the phone because it was such a hassle to get.

Posted by: Batboy

I tried to add a ringtone by following steps from http://www.vox8910.ca.tt/
But I keep getting an error when the phone call is made & i selected the new tone...

uigui.c 05255

Can anybody direct me? Oh yhea its a Bell by the way, or any1 have another set of instructions?

Posted by: will122k3

ya well i did it- even though there were no instructions listed here for U.S. Cellular customers. I kind of combined methods from differrent users, and i guess i got lucky
but really, i just did what seemed would make the most sense.
Now to laugh at my friends when they have no idea how to put mp3's as their ringtones.

Posted by: will122k3

Does anyone know how to add games to this phone?? I have U.S. Cellular, and i've sucessfully put mp3 ringtones onto the phone, and gotten photos off it, so everything is setup correcly.

I would like to get some games on it though.

Posted by: larrybird

Can someone offer any help for me regarding my 8910 on Alltel?

I just got my USB cable from eBay and it came with a driver CD. I installed the files like it said to do on http://www.vox8910.ca.tt/ except it didn't work exactly like mentioned. For instance, if I plug in my phone while powered off, XP tells me that the device is not recognized. If I turn on the phone XP recognizes the device. However, I cannot get BitPim to recognize my phone, nor will the PC Sync program that came with the driver CD recognize it. Am I missing some information, using bad drivers, or following the wrong site? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Posted by: will122k3

with BigPim i just chose the default phone, because our phone isn't on that list. Did you do the whole COM port thing?
Also what makes you think that it's not recognizing your phone, because with mine i didn't get like any comfirmation or anything. It doesn't say anything on the phone about being connected.
Also keep in mind i have U.S. Cellular.

Posted by: coltfoet5

What is the max length of a ringtone for this phone? I can make them up to 20 seconds. Is there anyway to put more than 20 seconds?

Hey. I am having problems with my 8910. I have been adding wallpapers and ringtones successfully for some time now. I recently tried to add a big ringtone, which failed halfway through (using Bitpim).

Now when I power on the phone, it gets stuck at the BELL screen...Is there any way to fix this? thanks.

I would suspect you need to delete the file that has been partially uploaded, but I dont know how you can do it... hmm...

When it is hung @ the bell screen, can you access the phone via BitPim?

No, I tried that but Bitpim can't access the file. Thanks for your reply. Any other suggestions?

I think you are SOL...

I had problems before with my 8910... I ended up just taking it back and under warranty

I have had my phone since May/05 and I play my Java Games, do some Text Messaging, and make phone calls and my battery goes for about 2 days before a re-charge...

Don't get me wrong, this phone isn't the greatest, but its not all too bad...

The only phones I like better (after trying Samsung/Motorola/Audiovox) are Nokia's... They are the bombdiggidy They have great reception and good battery life...

And yes, we Canadians spell some words different... I am not sure about Centre... But I know I like the "colour" blue and Americans are our friendly "Neighbours"... LOL

One word of warning: Don't ever ever edit the rms file. I knew exactly I was doing, and I did everything that was on the site down to the letter, and I managed to kill two phones. Just replace the old ringtone with the new one, and that should work fine. Granted, it will still have the old name, but that's better than killing your phone...

Hello!

I own an Audiovox 8910 cell phone with Metro PCS Service. The ringer was working fine, but now it doesn't. It vibrates on incoming calls but that's it. I verified the volumes but they seem to be OK. Another thing is when you turn on the phone in the past, when it came on, it played music, now it doesn't. Also none of the three alarms work. What might the problem be ??

Posted by: Big_Bruce

Hi,

I purchased my Audiovox 8910 from a seller on EBay. Had no problems activating it with Metro PCS using the ESN & programming it with the phone# from my original Nokia 2116-I (cheapie). It was originally purchased new from a Metro PCS store in Florida and I live in California. I have the original owners receipt, dated 4/2/05 (3 weeks left on the 1yr warranty). My question is this:

Even though I'm not the original buyer, can I still send it end for warranty repair ??

Thanks a lot........................ Big_Bruce.

I answered my own question. Called Audiovox & phone was in "etiquette" mode. To release, just hold down your * key

Answered my own question. Called Audiovox. The one-year
warranty is transferrable but still only good for the initial
warranty period which is 1yr from the original date-of-purchase.

for everyone complaining about the battery life of the 8910... what do you expect?? You want to talk for 3 straight days??

Look at the specs on any battery, and they are almost the same... you get around 180min of talk time, 300 something hours of standby...

TXTing, and useing Apps counts as Talk Time, since the phone is active, and doing stuff...

I'd like to see what phones you guys think have better battery life... I'll tell you right now, they all have almost the same... maybe 10-20 min diff on the talk time... and a few hours for standby... plus AND minus... remember, these aren't like the old Nokia's that were just for phone calls (see the first phone in my sig)... These phones have full operating systems, and need alot of power to run (and play all your songs, play your games, watch your videos)

Battery life is pretty much standard from phone to phone... my wife's Motorol V265 has HALF the battery life as my 8910, but that's also because she's had it for almost a year longer than I've had mine... you can only charge and de-charge the batteries so much... they won't hold the same charge they did a year after you got it...

Sorry for the rant, but I've got sick of seeing "my blabla phone had much better battery life than this POS" and "this thing has a crappy battery... why can't it be like my blabla phone that I could talk and txt and play games, and I only had to charge it for 10 min every 3 months"

Hey Toomuchchex. I'm doing the same with my 8910. I'd say, take it to your local, small, 3rd party, cell-phone dealer (which sells multiple brands & faceplates). Buy your faceplate from them & most will replace for free. My local store quoted me $10.00. Keep in mind that this will void your warranty.

I called them and got the address, but it will cost far too much money to fix. I was hoping to sell the phone anyways.....either broken or fixed!

OK

I went to the open-air market this weekend and found a fantastic deal on this CDM-8910 from Virgin Mobile. Thing was in excellent condition. no scratches anywhere, the coating on the buttons still look new and it even came in a snazzy little leather case with a magnetic-type clasp for a secure close. $10.oo US is what the guy told me and I was instantly dubious. $10.oo? Something is wrong. I asked him if I could leave it there to charge for a while and I will continue browsing and return. He said sure. I return and it was fully charged so I turned it on and fiddled around. Everything worked just fine so I gave him the money and went home happy to find a treasure (you have to understand that they sell for $99.oo to $149.oo around here depending on where you shop). I set it on my desk and, being Saturday, I forgot about it until today. I jotted down all the info necessary to activate this thing and used the new, fully-charged, $10.oo flip-phone to call my favorite *86 operator. After about an hour of mono-syllabic responses to, what seemed to me to be 18 different computer simulated teenagers, I got to Ron. After a few more responses we got to the heart of it all. Activate the phone? Suuuuurrrre, says Ron.

As soon as the previous owner calls and DE-activates his account.

Ummmmmm......

It was told to me that this phone has not been used or anything in about 4 1/2 months. Can someone please explain to me how long it takes to finally be considered a dead account in order to activate a new one?? It is SUCH a pretty phone.......

I've got the 8910 from bell mobility.
it's been a good phone but bell is a royal pain in the arse.
I want to get all the pics outta this thing before i sell it off, replaced by a motorola i870 and telus.
i've got more than a year's worth of pics of my kid, and would really like to keep them all if possible. I dont want to sell a phone with baby pics on it either.
i just cannot get bitpim to work. i've followed all the directions that i have found, but when i am in device manage i cant find the modems part to get the com port number.
it just seems that my computer hates the driver, keeps wanting me to reinstall it, cause it's not signed my windows. i tried the software that came with the usb cable, pcsync, but all i can do with that is modify my phonebook , yippie, the guy said i could get pics off it, but as usual a guy on ebay lied to make a sale. so maybe i just need to be coached on what to do, as i am a braindead trucker. thanks guys.

Posted by: bigredneck

just an update, i was able to get my photo's off of the phone, but nothing else, i went to filesystem and got all my pics off, and i think the games too. wish i could get the pics i had saved and downloaded too, but this is a start.
But why when i try to even look at pics saved to phone it says user data is being restored, and restarts the phone every time.?????

My cell phone battery lasts about a day now and I was looking to buy a new battery. I found a couple of different ampage for the cell phones and was wondering which one was actually real. This website says both.

http://www.cellularfactory.com/whol...?d=14751&c=8452

I was also wondering if it would be bad to order a battery off of ebay or should I stick to a website. Are generic batteries just as good as brand name batteries?

Posted by: shakedown815

does this phone have a vibrate while ringing option? i sure can't seem to find it. sorry if this has been discussed before, but i don't have the time to sift through the 30+ pages in this thread. thanks!

Posted by: rancid

CMPTRGAMER,

with regards to the battery, even if you do get a new battery you'll pretty much encounter the same problems as before. I'm actually on my second battery right now, it's holding up alright but the phone still eats batteries like it's cookies.

best to stick with OEM batteries. Some aftermarket batteries have been known to explode or cause damage to the phone. I personally have not had that issue but you never know. Generally though, the talk times on a CDMA phone versus a GSM phone is less. I think you get about an hour less of talk time.

How much do you use your phone in a day?

Posted by: cmptrgamer

I just use it a few times a day for a couple of minute calls.

VERY simple remedy thanks.

[edit]
Mau you should add that to your site....
For Alltel users with the new cdm 8910
I used a cable purchased off Ebay
*downloaded and installed Bitpim
*downloaded and installed a wav to mp3 converter, picked a (wav) tone to test with, converted the wav to mp3, saved it in a folder on the desktop
*opened up bitpim with the phone connected via my handy dandy new cable.
Please note that this did and will not turn my phone on or off (as some of the info I read stated it would).
*Once in bitpim clik Edit / Settings / and sellect the same com port your modem uses. I used the OTHER CDMA phone under the types box but I cannot say what will and will not work there.
*clik on the File System tab
*Scroll down to user / sound / ringer
*right clik on ringer and sellect New File then when the window opens choose the tone from the browser menu (whereever you saved the mp3 or midi) then close bitpim
*on your phone go to menu access apps (when you back out you will get an error message - thats ok)
*open up the media gallery on your phone and you should see the tone you installed under tones
*you can now go to settings / sounds / ringer type / ringer and the tone should be under the downlads box.
Hope this helped.
Thanks for all the info guys!

you dont really need a converter all you need to do is change the file extension from .wav to a .mp3..... to do so just go to file/save as/rename the file (ie. mysong.mp3) and your done.

I just bought a Virgin Mobile Audiovox 8910 (in Canada if that makes a difference). I had a few questions:

1. Does the ##browser code work on Virgin Mobile?
2. Is the WAP completely free or does it use minutes?
3. I have free evenings (6pm-5am) so if I use it during that time is it completely free?
4. What can I access through this? Just WAP websites? Or can I actually download ringtones/graphics?
5. Has there been any progress on uploading games with the data cable?

Posted by: mau108

Hey guys, if anyone wants me to add stuff to http://vox8910.ca.tt please PM me. I dont have an audiovox 8910 anymore so I cant test anything and can't provide support, but will continue to build the site.

take care.

I have had the phone about a year now and never had any problems at all until today.
It is fully charged but when I power it up I just get a white screen with this on it: otasp.c 0371300
I can't make any calls on it and even when it is turned off, the white screen blinks on and off.
While doing a search on this forum I see that someone else had the exact same problem as I....but there was no solution given. I have removed the battery and put it back in and it is still is doing it.
I hope I have posted this question in the right place.
Please tell me there is something I can do....thanks in advance.

Posted by: hurricanereno

as far as I know, there is no way to send a phone book to 8910 via Bitpim. The only things you can meddle with are pix, games and ringtones, as far as I know.

Posted by: eclipsepb25

i dropped my phone accidently and the top part of the face plate came off and when i snapped it back together the wire ribbon that connect all the componets in the top half including the lcd, speaker, and camera to the main board in the bottom half was hanging out and i snipped it in half. does any one have this certain wire or no where i can get it. if it helps, when i emailed starcom that said it is part #2HA00001153 and it cost 30 bucks to get that replacement part which probally cost them 5 cents to make. thats rediculous. also, if anyone has a broken or used 8910 i would be happy to buy it from you.

Posted by: nothernhorspowa

I bought a used 8910 v7 Snapper (the prepaid one) on ebay for like $15 shipped...somone steppe don the screen, but I took a chance and sure enough the cable was intact. I messed my cable up when I was switching the housing...boy did that look cool in the "carbon fiber" look housing.

Posted in main forum, didnt see this thread but will probably have better luck here. I hacked my phone to avoid paying for verizon mobile web and use different ip addresses and wap.google.com as my homepage. Probably really stupid of me, but how do you enter a url to navigate to a webpage? Cant find it in the menus

^^ Bump...I got the same question lol.

Posted by: coltfoet5

This topic got to big and is hard to find things...

I'm wondering how to put games on the 8910 with bitpim. Us cellular is my provider which is like Verizon. I also want to know if there is a way to put wallpapers on the phone.

I can take pictures off and put ringtones on up to 20 seconds... Is there anyway of making ringtones longer also??

so 4 questions

how to put games on?
how to put wallpaper on?
Can ringtones be longer than 20 seconds?

If you can put games on, where do i get them at?

Thanks

Posted by: nothernhorspowa

They are all answered in the topic....
Ringontes longer than 20 seconds....do you have voicemail? No games for any phone with Brew....wallpaper and ringtones: search man....seriously, don't ask people for answers when the only talk about the 8910 has been on those subjects.....

Posted by: airdogg92

For bitpim go http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...up.exe?download .....You should read the forums man, been posted a lot....And its free

I have a problem with my phone. I have an Audiovox 8910 with Virgin Mobile. The phone does not power on anymore, at all. When I hold the power button to turn it on, the green light on the top lights up for about five seconds and then shut off. Also while the phone is plugged in to charge the green light just stays on, but it doesn't charge. I have also tried different batteries, so I cant imagine what it is. Please email me at x_orange90_x@yahoo.com if you can help.

I had a smiliar problem while transfering ringtones to my 8100. It never detected the cable. Just ignor the message. Go into filesystem and click the plus. It will search for a little while, and then it will read the phones filesystem. From there it is simple how to transfer the images.

EDIT:
To load wallpapers for 8910 ALLTEL phones:
*Save a wallpaper onto your pc
*Using your phone take a few photos (of the floor or whatever )and note the names once you save them.
*Connect your phone to the data cable and turn it on.
*Start Bitpim (I am using version 7.25) and go to the "+" sign / brew / shared / jpeg / then right clik on the photo you just took and select "overwrite". Once the window opens direct bitpim to use the wallpaper you saved previously. Close Bitpim and disconnect your phone. The wallpaper will now be saved on your phone under the menu / media gallery / photos section. I'll post later if I find a way to save them to the images page....

I have a bad feeling this has been asked before. I have had my Verizon CDM 8910 for about 2 years now, and two weeks ago and the sound and such just stopped working. After fiddling with it this morning it kept saying "hands free mode on/off" back and forth, I finnaly got it to stay off and the sound began working again, but it entered hands free mode again. Anyway to fix this, or has my phone begun popping flowers?

Hello,

I just bought a used Audiovox 8910. I switched over my old phone# (Metro PCS) to my Audiovox. The problem is that inconsistently the sceen shows "Searching System". When this happens, you can't call out or receive calls. The only way go get rid of the message is to turn the phone off, then on. Also, when making calls, I get quite a few "dropped calls".

Any Idea's ???? Big_Bruce

jmbarr....
I also have an Altell CDM8910. Look up my previous posts as I have answered your particular questions there.... better yet here are the posts in short order:

Alltel Users for MP3 ring tones:
1) Turn on your phone and plug it in.
2) Find an mp3.
3) Cut about 30 seconds out of it, and reencode it to 48kb/s at 20500. (I use Adobe Audition)
4) Open up Bitpim with the phone connected to Datacable
5) Once in bitpim click Edit / Settings / and select the same com port your modem uses.
I used the OTHER CDMA phone under the types box but I cannot say what will and will not work there.
6) Click on the File System tab, Scroll down to user / sound / ringer
7) Right click on ringer and select New File then when the window opens choose the tone from the browser menu
(whereever you saved the mp3 or midi) then close bitpim)
8) On your phone go to menu access apps (when you back out you will get an error message - that's ok)
9) Open up the media gallery on your phone and you should see the tone you installed under tones
you can now go to settings / sounds / ringer type / ringer and the tone should be under the downloads box.

That worked for me anyway. Hope it helps.

I found the pics taken with the phone (under BREW / Shared / Jpg). Just download BITPIM and install it. Connect your phone, start BITPIM, and look at the files. You can load or unload pics, wallpapers, and ringtones. I have not bothered any further with games or anything else.

GOODLUCK!!!

Thank You this is verry helpfull to have it all in one place.
God Bless All of You

I was able to put a 640x480 image in the BREW/Shared folder *not in JPG*
I then went into "Easyedge" aka "get it now" or "access apps", and backed out. The picture appeared in Media Gallery/Images/Graphics folder instead of your camera (photo) gallery.

I'm trying to figure out the animation and startup/shutdown logo, but i do not have an animation to work with... I could not locate the defaults under the filesystem... Does anyone have an animation on their phone that they could post? It would be greatly appreciated.

I can't connect my phone to my pc. I've tried bitpim and qpst and nothing works. I've installed all of the drivers. qpst is the only program that's recognized my phone, but when I try to edit anything, it says there's an unknown error.

I've tried the walkthrough on http://vox8910.50webs.com/setup.html and that didn't work either.

I purchased a data cable and software cd from e bay last week for my Audiovox 8910. I used the software cd to download QPST and Bitpim. i tried to use bitpim but i got fed up so i am trying to use QPST. I got my SPC code from bitpim so i am now connected to my phone. I now see all my phones files (pictures, call hist. etc.). On the cd that came with the data cable, there are ringtones i could put onto my phones using the data cable but i am having trouble putting them onto my phone. Do i just drag them into a file? if i do then what file? Also putting the pictures that are on the cd is trouble too. could anyone please help?

Thanks,

Anthony

This question has probably already been answered, but I don't have the time right now to search through 36 pages of replies.

I have an Audiovox 8910 from Bell Aliant (which is exactly the same as Bell in Ontario and Quebec, but they use the Aliant name in the Atlantic Provinces), and I just purchased a data cable from BargainCell.com. The drivers installed correctly, but I'm having difficulty accessing the phone. I've tried Curitel's PC Sync and BitPim. The cable is labelled "LG VX6100".

With PC Sync, it detects the phone, and it works properly, for the most part. It works with the address book, schedule, and text messages. However, it doesn't read picture and ringtone information, and when I try to upload a midi file or picture, an error message appears that says "Can't get phone media info".

Then I tried BitPim following the instructions at this site, http://www.vox8910.ca.tt/, which gives instructions for Bell users. I set it up exactly as the page says, however, it won't connect to the phone. Under settings, I click Browse ports, and it lists the two Curitel ports, but both are listed as "available: false" though it reports being active.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, I'm new here.

I bought a US Cellular CDM-8910 the other night, and I cannot get it to connect with Bit-Pim or PC Sync. When I plug the cable into the phone and computer after installing the Curitel drivers.

I am using the same cable I bought for my LG VX6000 on eBay. Can someone please help me out with a very detailed explanation on how to get this to work?

Ultimately, my goal is to sync up with the computer, and load some .MP3 ringtones onto there.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has had any trouble connecting an 8910 serviced by Virgin Mobile with a generic USB cable. I've tried and am having problems.

The instructions said to plug the cable in and the computer should detect it and automatically install the needed drivers from the CD. However, my computer has trouble detecting the USB device. I know there is no problem with the computer, as I have 2 computers in my home and it does the same thing on both. And i know all the USB ports work.

Every once in a while it seems to detect the device for a few seconds, installs the drivers, and then a few seconds later it detects the "new" device again and re-installs the drivers. I've tried using the drivers off the cable installation CD, as well as drivers downloaded off one site i found (both of which are supposed to be compatible with Audiovox 8900 series phones), but none of them seem to be working correctly. I have gotten messages saying that an error occured during installation as well.

Could this have something to do with Virgin's service or the drivers? Or (as i am inclined to believe right now) is there something wrong with my cable?

Thanks!

I have a Virgin Mobile 8910 and I have a question about ringtones. I know I need to buy a song from VM to get the folder structure. Once I do this, can I only replace the ringtone I've bought or can I add more? If you can add more, what increments do the file numbers go up by?

Thanks.

Posted by: dumbintellect

On the Audiovox CDM 8910

what is this on the back near the antenna

Posted by: soldner

OK, I've figured out that my VM phone uses the Bell phone structure. So I've managed to get new ringtones on my phone but they show up in the My Stuff>Others category. They should be in the My Stuff>Ringtones category. I can play them on the phone but can't set them as ringers. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Is this Virgin Mobile us or canada? Has anyone figured out how to add new tones to the 8910 virgin mobile us without having to replace an existing tone?

I've got Virgin Mobile Canada and I can add tones without replacing by just increasing the file number by one. Eg. 10.dat becomes 11.dat and same for the .gcd. I can play the songs I've added but can't use them as a ringtone because the phone puts them in the Others folder.

Its the "Vox". I couldn't find any drivers to install, the CD that came w/ it had no .exe or anything. It has two folders.

SAYNOPST - Folder 1

USB Modem Driver - Folder 2

@ FPSDavid, I believe the drivers found here will work with the phone.

http://216.119.70.238/Download/Data_Cables/AUDUSB.zip

You may also need to install an older version of bitpim, I believe the newer versions have dropped support for the phone.
Good luck.

You can't even view the filesystem? I'm unaware of any version that will interact with the phones others than the filesystem view? Try other cdma phone and file system view.

#5265* -- Unlocks the phone (if it was locked through Menu-6-3-1-1), and tells you what your password was.

That alone made the cable worth the ebay price.
NOW I am trying the next step and seem to be getting nowhere and since 90% of the information here pertains to Verison or Bellsouth I wanted a specific answer to how you get ring tones (in mp3 format) to the Alltel phone. Forgive me if its a repeat request but as a newb to all this phone info I just didnt see the answer elsewhere.

[edit] i did manage to save the mp3 as 48kbps at 22050 freq with a file size of 29k...this is just a 4 sec mp3 that my wife wants on her phone so i was testing my phone first. I did not change it to mid as I noticed several posts note that was not necessary.

How did you manage to get tones on your phone? Because I cant even do that. I have Bitpim but get it to recognize my phone for anything.

has anybody actually used thier 8910 as a modem for an internet connection? i can't seen to get it to work, I have gotten as far as the phone actually dialing to #777, but is says that its a "HSPD call" on the handset. Im not farmilliar with that, but before, on my lg phone it said "data call" when I did this. Anyway, when its "verifying username and password" it stops and the phone says "call failed DS unavailable". It only actually dials when I chang my data setting to rs232c. Anybody run into this problem before? thanks

Have you tried the file system view from bitpim, have you loaded any drivers for the phone? Which cable did you purchase? The one I have came with a piece of software called "picture download" just for such a thing. Good luck.

I have an Alltel CDM-8910 and this forum has been extreeeeeeeemly helpful for me to learn how to put MP3 ringtones on the phone with my data cable. I am still researching how to put wallpapers on my phone.

My question is: Is there a way to set up the phonebook to have different ringtones and photos appear when someone in my phonebook calls me? I went into my phonebook and set different ringtones and photos up, but when I tried it the phone just ignored my settings and used the general ringtone.

Not sure if you got this solved or not, but if not...I had the same problem UNTIL... I changed the phone numbers to include the area code. Wierd, but it did it.

I'm in the process of making a complete PDf file for the 8615 (8910 minus the camera). I have done a lot to this phone with ringers, wallpapers, free WAP, so want to share the knowledge. I figured if I make a PDF it will be a lot easier for everyone.

I would be really interested in your PDF and your experiences with this phone.

Maybe this has been gone over in this topic before (stopped reading after 18pages)but how do you use the 'vox as a 1x modem? I'm on an unlimited carrier with web turned on and the 8910 with what seems to be generic firmware.

Also, on my phone, there's no address bar or bookmarks in the browser...if this normal? If not, how do I put it in? I have what the techs say is the newest firmware...

Don't know if this has been answered on here before. There are many pages.

I have an 8910 with US Cellular. I want my own ringtones. I have a data cable. I can't figure out how to work anything. When I plug in the phone with the cable it tries to install something, but then it asks for this file: MA8012M.sys.
I havent been able to find it.

Can anyone help me out with any of this?!?

Haha I had this phone. It worked good for me, I dropped it in the snow 3 times, toilet 2 times, and bathroom-while-taking-hot-shower at least 10 times.

Never died! Well, now when you open it up you have to wait between 5 seconds-2 minutes before the screen backlight turns on.

I`ve got two 8910`s that each have a seperate problem. One will not find service, and the other will power loop ( restart just after starting up). I`v now pick`d up the cables and from reading, I am using qpst, curitel drivers, and am able t
