can the 6600 be used as a modem?

I'm thinking of buying the 6600 but i would want to use it as a modem as well for my laptop. Audiovox says they have not developed any drivers yet and Verizon shrugs their shoulders. Does anyone know if there are compatable drivers out there?

Thanks Fred

Great question. I've been wondering that also. A follow-up question would be can you use the verizon data plan to access information through the 6600 to a laptop -vs- a separate dialup ISP.

Should be able to. I'm pretty sure there are people doing it now. Ask in the verizon forum, or call VZW data tech support directly at 1866-658-8823

Yes, either via BlueTooth or a USB cable.

What drivers do you use and where do you get them? Audiovox has stated they have not developed drivers yet and Verizon says they don't have them.

I'm getting mine tomorrow and would love to try this out. Does anyone know where to get the drivers?

If you do it via BlueTooth, you only need a BT adapter in your laptop. For a USB connection, check the forums at PDAPhoneHome. There is a thread and I think it does contain a link to one file you may need for USB.

Yes you can! I am as I write this doing just what you were asking. First you can do it using bluetooth but rememeber that bluetooth only transmits at 156Kbps. In order to get EVDO speeds you need to use the USB cable or the docking cradle. There are divers and instructions on how to do it. I have listed the web site below for you. It works great and I can confirm that when using the USB cable or docking station it does use my $80 data plan. When I was using just the blue tooth I would only get 140K max and let me tell you that I am in a 1XRTT area only right now. When I switched to the USB setup I get constant burst up to 220k using 1XRTT. I know that there are people that are in the EVDO areas reporting that with the USB setup they get constant 300 to 400Kbps when connected to there computer and 400 to 500Kbps when using the XV6600 only. Hope this info helps, The XV6600 Rocks!

Download the divers for the modem and also copy the instructions. You do not need to use the dialer that he provides if you have the VZW Access manager on your computer. Just install the mmodem on the pocket pc and run it and then point to the driver on your computer then run the Wizard and it will detect it on its own. As I said I hope this helps.
