VX4500 Cable & software Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I finally got my vx4500, so I've been looking around here and seeing what I can do with it.

Note: I'm on Verizon, in case that makes it harder to do what I want to do.

Ebay has tons of cables for it, some come with drivers, some come with software as well.

I've read I really do need the drivers, so that's one question.

But what about the software? Some of the auctions say they come with tons of games (and graphics, etc), and their own application. Of course, these cost more. I'm pretty much interested in some games, as well as some ring tones.

Is the software really just bitpim (or an equivalent), and can I get the games and such elsewhere on the net?

Or is there actually some value to these?

Thanks
-Mike

I wish I had an answer but I have the same problem with my 4500. Actually I have the cable and loaded the driver but the bitpim can't read my phone. I cannot get the machine to see that a phone is plugged in so I can't do anything right now. Its very frustrating, by the way I got mine from e-bay.

slamboy -

i am encountering the same problem. i got my cable off ebay and installed everything. phone isn't recognized when its all plugged in and bitpim doesn't recognize it either.

i think i need to find a different driver for the cable so that i can select it off the COM PORT selection.

ebay

what a screw that is

it has been posted many times

the 2 best cables are , the futuredial cable from radio shack

or the VZW MOB [ same cable & verizon's connectivity software ]

buy the cable at RS , then go here to get the driver

http://members.driverguide.com/list...1661/index.html

do NOT plug in the cable Until after you have installed the driver

do NOT plug in the cable and have windows search for new hard ware it will look for a USB device NOT the serial converter chip in the cable

make sure you goto to settings

menu 9

data port settings

make sure the data port is ON

and make sure you select rsc232 serial NOT USB

set port speed to 115200

you have to have these settings for bitpim to work
the driver must be installed then plug in the cable and phone and start the computer

then windows will see the NEW com port

this has all been posted many times, that why no one else has responded to your post

Good luck

Just to add, I bought a cable off of Ebay for this phone and it works great. It also came with a driver CD.

I plugged in the cable first and when the driver window opened, I manually selected the driver from the CD.

As for BitPim not finding the phone, I went into device manager and saw that there was an entry for the USB cable next to COM3. I opened up BitPin and next to the com setting was auto, I changed that to COM3 and it worked fine.

HTH.
