Customer Service response for a new Dev Key due to broken unit

Here is what is going on:

I had a Dev Key for SKII and was basically developing little apps for my own personal use. The screen quit flipping up and out so it had to be done manually. The screen was also interlacing really bad unless you were standing still. I call support and they said they would ship me another device. When I received the device I immediately went to get another Dev Key but Danger had already removed the request page and posted it was down for some maintance. Without a dev key this phone is pretty useless for people who bought it for the sole purpose of putting apps on it (my opinion). This was all in late December. In the beginning of January, I was leaving the country for a good 1 1/2 months. I called T-Mobile and they issued me an unlock code for my phone. I emailed Danger on January 7th, January 17th and again January 20th. I explained the situation in regards to the old/new phone and that I had a previous Dev Key along with the fact I would be out of the country for a good 1 1/2 months with NO access to a fax machine. I finally received a response today. I have cut and pasted it below.

After Danger announced their change in Dev Keys, I knew I was in for a little treat when I had to get a new phone and then was going to be out of the country for quite some time. This response below clearly indicates that unless Danger is going to make some money off of the applications that are developed your not going to be getting a Dev Key. I for one will be getting rid of this device as soon as I hit the other side of the pond.

Hi,

The developer key request form can be located in the developer section of the Danger website. The form needs to be printed out and filed in by hand and then faxed in, there is no way around that request process. Ultimately the developer program is there for developers only and not designed as a way for users to unlock the O.S. so that any random application can be installed on the device. If you are a developer and are interested in building applications for the device you'll want to print the form out and fax it in when you get a chance.

Thanks,

Brian Keller

LOL!!!!

Did you go to the Danger website and download the pdf form and fax it?

I'm guessing not!

I did, I answered some basic questions faxed in the form and a week later I got a dev key. Not so hard, not sure what the big deal is here!

The Danger guy didn't tell you that you weren't going to get a key, just that it's for developers and you need to follow the process just like everyone else that is looking for a dev key. I know some people that are still waiting for keys and they have e-mailed Danger and they write back saying they'll have to wait and see if they get a key. It might not be the best way to go about giving out keys, but really, what is complaining about it going to get you.

I bet that you aren't a developer and probably don't know the difference between the return key and the any key on a keyboard.

Danger has issued me a new key for my phone. I thought about responding to the 2 posts above but realized if they couldn't read my initial post then why respond.

It took some time, and a couple of emails but I now have a phone that I am able to upload my own developed apps.

Thanks Danger for coming through!

So what exactly was your initial post for?

You said "This response below clearly indicates that unless Danger is going to make some money off of the applications that are developed your not going to be getting a Dev Key."

And that turned out to not be true because you recieved a key

And then you said "I for one will be getting rid of this device as soon as I hit the other side of the pond."

And turned out to not be true

Frankly i am dissapointed in you because i assume this means you will not be giving me your Sidekick.
