How long should you charge it to maximise battery life?
My manual says 4 hours. Is that enough?

If that is what SE recommend then do it. I usually just charge until the red light goes off. Haven't seen any difference in battery life when charged over night.

I charged mine right through the night for about 10 hours before my first use .

Same here. I always charge my new device (whether it be phone or PDA, overnight.
