why would Cingular warranty a phone that wasnt purchased from them?

I'm sorry but if I were Cingular, I wouldnt exchange jack from anyone. after all, it isnt like they made any money from the sale of the phone to begin with.

if someone has a defective phone and it wasnt purchased from Cingular, then all you can do is warranty the phone through the manufactuer...

oh please.....

think about how much money that Cingular would lose if 1,000 people bought defective phones and tried to have Cingular replace them.

you dont think that wouldnt cost Cingular tons of money?

say no and I guess that means that you dont know too much about how corp America really operates.

Does it look like i give the slightest flying ×××× if they lose money?

Don't want to get in the middle of this spat, but they don't make tons of money off of the phones anyways. They make money from everybody paying for plans.

Yeah, it's similar to Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft making money off of the games they sell instead of the consoles.

Still though, it doesn't mean they're going to handle broken phones that weren't purchased from them I don't think. It could be worth a shot to try it, but the other option would be to go through Motorola.

Or, if you're patient and your phone seems to be working well enough for your taste, you could just hold off for a while and see if Motorola is going to release a public firmware. Even if that doesn't happen, I don't doubt that some hacker out there is going to figure out how to install the most up-to-date firmware and let us in on the secret.

By the way I'm new here, hi!

the money is in service plans...

uhm haha... if you really knew how much the phones were really worth.. most of the time, they just refurbish the phones they do the firmware upgrade and send it back out lol. I already got mine with the firmware upgrade before they were giving them out, but hey i work for best buy so lol yea im not going to give my self a messed up phone rofl.

oh yea.. uhm call 888-Best Buy see what they can do for you... Corporate is usually easy on getting you a new phone if you're are still within the manufacters warrenty... which is 1 year, then they just "Devo" the phone out back to the vendor

If you purchased the phone from Best Buy and you signed up for (and still have) Cingular service, Cingular Exchange by Mail *WILL* exchange the phone.

Cingular does exchange defective units after the return period of the store you bought from. I believe this IS the warranty procedure, since the phones are Cingular-customized. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and you can get direct warranty service from Motorola as well...
